Could use some advice on what do do about debt with NCO

    11/1/2009

To start off, back in December of 2008 I was laid off from my job. I immediately had to cancel my cell phone service, because I could no longer afford it. I was subject to an early termination for each of the two phone's that were on my account. I had a bill of approx 520$ that I needed to pay. I did not receive my unemployment compensation till the middle of February so I did not pay for those two months. I stopped receiving my bill and when I called the cell phone company they informed me that my debt had been sold to a collection agency. I assumed that I could not pay my bill through the cell phone company anymore and that's how they portrayed it also. I did not receive nor did I hear anything from any collection agency until this past Friday when they called my husband's phone saying that they were NCO financial trying to contact me about an important matter. They told my husband that I had listed him as a contact ( not true ). He gave them my information then called me to tell me that I needed to call a number and ext with a code that he also gave me. I called and looked up the company while I was waiting to speak to a representative When I found out that it was a collection agency I knew it had to be about the cell phone bill. After being on hold for over half an hour, I left a voicemail with my name and number for them to call me. They did not call me back, but instead called my husband again on Saturday. I called them and got ahold of a representative that same day. The first woman I spoke to was polite and asked me some questions ( which I wish I had not answered now but I legitimately thought that it was just a means to get the debt cleared up ), among them where my husband worked and who our checking account was through ( I am so angry that I gave out that info! I feel like such a sucker ). She then told me that my debt was over 800$ and I told her that I disagreed with that amount and that I need something in the mail stating proof that I owe that amount before I pay them anything. I also told her that due to my unemployment I would not be able to pay the debt in full, but could make monthy payments of at the very least 200$. She asked if I would hold ( had no idea she was transferring the call to a manager ). A man who said he was a manager comes on the line and demands to know my plan to pay off my debt. I told him that my plan was to get the paperwork in the mail that stated proof of what I owe and then to make the payments that I could make till it was paid off. He then went on to say " so I'm going to read between the lines and guess that what your saying is that you'll pay it when you have the money" and I was so taken aback at his rudeness that I was kind of flustered after that and said no that's not what I said at all. Then he said "well why can't you put this debt onto your credit card that you have through your bank" and I said that the card is actually primarily my husband's and he won't allow me to do that. The manager then said in a tone of disbelief "your husband and you do your finances separately" and I told them that in this matter of a debt that was mine, yes. He then went on to basically say that he had heard this excuse a million times and that all I am going to do is take one look at a paper statement and decide not to pay then screen my calls and that they would never hear from me again. He told me that I could write a check to the cell phone company, that he could care less what I did, and that he was referring my care for "further action". He then told me to have a nice day and hung up on me.

I was really upset after this phone call, I just want to get this debt cleared up and never be in this situation again. I just don't feel like I can get anywhere with this company. I don't even feel safe giving any money to them now.

If anyone could give me any advice as to what to do now I would really appreciate it. I was under the impression that I could not go back to cell phone company to pay them, but he made it sound like I could.

Thanks to anyone in advance for any advice or knowledge shared.

    Criminal Enterprise

    8/20/2009

NCO Financial Services has been trying to contact someone with the same name as my son. He is an adult and no longer living in my household I am still not convinced they have the right person. In any case, I have relayed the message to my son and told them so.

I have seen a couple of reviews with an "employee" telling people how they are only doing their jobs and trying to earn a buck and feel abused. Tough.

You guys are criminals, at least in my state. It is illegal to initiate a telephone call with no intention to have a legitimate conversation. Once I tell you that I have no business with you, and the party you're looking for is not at this number there is no reason for you to call me several times a day, several times a week. We have no business and I have no interest in talking to them.

I did the right thing and relayed the message to my son to deal with this situation.

I have talked with these people in a civil manner, and they ignore me. I have yelled at them and they still call me.

As much as I hate doing this, I have started to treat them as the perverts who make obscene phone calls, which is also a criminal act. I have started to blow my police whistle when they call. Before long, I may need to call police to make a criminal complaint against this criminal enterprise.

    Horrible Company

    8/20/2009 horsham Pa PA

I am so upset with NCO Financial Services. The employees who work there are very rude. I am dealing with a terrible issue right now as we speak. I called NCO to have a check posted on a certain date, to pay off a debt, and this company posted the check on another date, causing, my bank account to have a snow ball effect of NFS fees, now I owe my bank 600.00 because of this. I have been on the phone with NCO to try and speak with a manager, I have been hung up on several times, told that the representative shows no notations of that change in date. I explained to them before anyone can say anything to them, the first thing that comes out of their mouth is this is attempt, to collect a debt, and this call this being recorded. I told them to go back and listen to the recording, the representative was very rude, and then told me that my date has been changed. I have still not heard anything back from these people. How in the world can you try and pay off debt, and get in more debt because of it. I am so angry right now!!!!!!!!!! I think this is a horrible company!!!

    Harassment

    6/1/2009

I have been divorced for two years and the Capital One card we had has been placed with NCO. I explained to the NCO representative that I don't hardly get child support and that my paycheck hardly covers my bills. She rudely informed me that they could garnish all of my wages until this was paid down. I gave her my ex's contact information and thy still rudely contact me at work and at home at all hours of the day and night.

I tried to come up with a small monthly amount to try and satisfy the debt but they wanted 900 in full now when the original balance was 300. The people are rude and very unprofessional.

I'm not even an AT&T customer

    5/22/2009

I received a bill in the mail saying I owed AT&T about 150 dollars and I am not even an AT&T customer. When I called NCO, they didn't do anything to help me. I had to call AT&T many times and spent hours over the telephone before anyone would even help me. They said that my SSN was used in error but they didn't rush or go out of their way to help me.

I ended up filing a police report and eventually they removed my SSN from their file. It was a nightmare.

    Harassment

    5/20/2009

After receiving nothing from Capital one for over 3 years, I received a notice in the mail from NCO. I called them the same day to inform them that the account was closed over 3 years ago. The women I talked to pretty much called me a liar and told me I had to live up to my responsibility. She them told me she would accept a payment of 900 (on a original balance of 200), I told her that I would not pay that and that’s when she told me then "further action would be taken". I again told her that the account was already paid; she said that she had no documents proving that and unless I had the cancel check I needed to pay. Who keeps canceled checks for over 3 years? I told her to have a nice day and hung up. I called back a few minutes later after looking for the paperwork and calling my old back (who also do not check canceled checks after the account is closed) and tried to set up a deal to pay the account again. I spoke with 3 people who were just downright rude.

When I asked why it has been 3 years since someone contacted me I was told that that was not their problem and I should have contacted them (on a account that was settled!!!!). I told them that the settlement price they were asking was ridiculous and that the account was almost 10 years old. They told me that they spoke with Capital one via email and that is what they offered. I asked to be forwarded the email and was denied. Then the women on the phone started to yell at me that that was the offer, take it or I could pay the balance in full. I asked her not to raise her voice to me and she said that she was "tired of playing my games" that I needed to finally take responsibility for my actions. I then told her that I did not appreciate the attitude and rudeness that I have encountered since I first called and she said that she did not appreciate my attitude. I told her that I have been very good up to this point and even offered to pay again for an account over 10 years old that I already paid for once.

She told me that she would not continue to have the same conversation and either I pay for the debt or they would further action. That is when I get the payment information and told her I needed time to decide. What kind of company is this? I offer to pay and get belittled by them in the process. I am tempted to not pay just because I don't want any of those people getting any money from me after the way they acted!

    Here Is Your Sign

    2/16/2009

I got a letter in the mail addressed to me stating that I owed over $500.00 For a past due phone bill that was over 12 years old. I called to find out what this was about and found out that it was my ex husbands bill that was under my name. I have a 790 credit score and I did not want this on my credit report. I paid the bill with my credit card and they stated that they would send me a letter showing the bill had been paid. When I called three weeks later to find out the status of the letter they said they would mail it and then they said I owed another bill! What the heck. They cannot produce a bill, its not even under my name its under my ex husbands.

Anyways they have my credit card number should I notify my credit card company? Cancel my credit card? I just don't want them charging things to my credit card. After my divorce I worked really hard to build my credit back up and it has taken me years to do so.

Keep Your Eyes Open With NCO

    12/22/2008 huthison KS

Well about 3 years ago I worked for NCO. I was there about year, until one day I came in from work, the Huthison KS office was closing their doors. Found out night before they close they tap everyone checking account and credit cards they had on file. If anyone ever work for them still works for them find different job, when companies find out you work for NCO trust me you won't get job.

Everyone had no idea. When they were closing there doors down in Hutchison KS they made everyone sign a gag order not to talk to news papers.

Sooner or later they will close NCO DOWN FOR GOOD.

    Unprofessional, Incompetent Staff and Management

    8/19/2008

I have recently experience a horrible experience with NCO Financial System. They harassed me for close to a month regarding a payment that I made directly to my credit card. When I finally spoke to their representative ([snip] and then the Disrespectful Account Manager) they all indicated that I will receive a receipt from them indicating that they are no longer working on my account because it was paid off. When I spoke to the Account Manager (who by the way is unprofessional) he stated that they do not provide letters of receipt and when I addressed him why would his representative tell me something that was not true he became enraged and told me that I should have paid my bills.

NCO Financial System have no right to tell consumer what they should and should not do. They have no form of ethics and have a tendency of harassing the consumer. What enraged the Account Manager was that I paid the bill directly to the credit card rather than working with this incompetent staff. NCO financial system staff have no idea what they are doing and use different forms of tactics to frighten or upset the public in order to get pay.

If you encounter a similar experience PLEASE complain to the Federal Business Bureau in order to get them fined or better yet get them all fired.

Harrasing Phone Calls Made By NCO

    3/19/2008

They keep calling about an old account from 2002. They don't have the bill but want me to pay.

    Deceased Mothers Bill

    2/8/2008 Edgewood MD

Ok. We all know just how bad NCO is. Now it's worse >_<

I received a call today at 7:30am. I pick up the phone, say, "Good morning" and get, "Hello, I'm calling about a bill that you are delinquent on. We need you to make a payment today."

I mean, no: Hello/Is this so and so/I'm with so and so.

Blunt. I ask them who this is, who the bill is for, all that stuff. Takes me almost *10 minutes* before I can get the 'phone drone' to give me any information at all.

The bill is for my late Mother. She passed away in 1999. Nine years ago.

I ask them why are they calling me and not my Dad and the 'phone drone' gos into, "Are you going to pay this or do we send this to our lawyers and notify the credit bureaus?"

    WTF, I mean, WTF!

I ask for a supervisor and get "Are you refusing to pay your debt?"

    "MY" DEBT?!?!

I hung up. It was either that or call this idiot some words my Momma told me ladies shouldn't even know.

    Any advice here?

    NCO Scam

    11/5/2007

NCO contacted me stating that I owed AT&T. I called AT&T and paid the bill and NCO called me back stating that if I did not pay them directly the account would go to collections and show up on my credit. I called AT&T back and told them I was going to pay NCO for the reasons I just listed and then called NCO and paid them. NCO reported a missing payment and put me into collections anyhow and ruined my credit just as I was refinancing my house.

I will kill and mutilate whoever is responsible for this if I ever find them.

    How are these people trained?

    9/25/2007 Canada

I was amazed and relieved to see all the other negative reviews filed about NCO Financial. Wow, these people are really something else.

    Here's my story:
I got a call from them regarding an overdue balance of about $25 for an account with a web-hosting company I had signed onto a few years ago. My credit card number had changed, and I had forgotten all about the website I made using the hosting services... it hadn't really worked out.

So the web-hosting company, 1&1, didn't say anything to me until a few months later as this balance accrued, and proceeded to hand my account over to NCO Financial who phoned me up to inform me 'my credit was in danger.' I don't know all the rules regarding these things, but how much damage could $25 do to anyone's credit? Anyways, I called the web-hosting company back to sort everything out. They immediately transferred me to NCO.

After waiting for a few minutes, and getting one confused employee who didn't know the account code I had been given, I was transferred, and the conversation went like this: "Ok, so you owe 26.XX US, which is about 28.XX CAD... go to your online banking site, and pick us as a payee, and- what was the amount again?"
He stopped in the middle of his online banking description and drop-down menu story to ask me this point-blank question. Of course I hadn't gotten the exact amount down, I was going to ask him for it after he had finished explaining how to use the internet. "Uh, 25 dollars or something." I kind of stuttered, surprised that he had become so abrupt all of a sudden. Well, this did it. He lost it!

"SEE, YOU DON'T LISTEN!" He started hammering away at me, like I was some drug addict in for thousands of dollars in coke and he was the mafia there to collect after years of a worsening relationship. What the hell was this?? I didn't deserved this treatment!! Over a twenty five dollar amount for something I should have been informed of before it had even gotten to these people? You have to be kidding me!! After I got the exact amount form him, I hung up in the middle of his rant... he was still going on and on. It was so surprising and unexpected that I was shaken up for the next day or so, honestly!!

Who are these people and what can we do about them? For one thing, they're bullies that need to be put in their place. If I phone them back to give them my two cents, I'll post the story.

    Hey NCO, go &*$% yourself.

    Ebay seller fees

    8/30/2007

Have been contacted numerous times over the last year about unpaid seller fees from Ebay. I asked NCO rep to send me something in writing from Ebay. Was told by their rep that I have to do that myself. So, I did so and I looked at all my Ebay accounts and all are paid in full. About a year ago I did fall behind and forget a payment but all information from Ebay looks up to date.

I told them this the next time they called and they still won't or can't get me any information or a statement from Ebay. They say that isn't there job. Watch out for these guys!

    Emotional bullies

    8/21/2007 LONDON, ENGLAND

I am so glad to have found this site after receiving an emotional bashing from these sick people who are employed by NCO europe I have somewhere I can take out my frustrations cos if I kept it all in I would be in danger of having a heart attack. Nco had been taking payments from my bank account for four months but I noticed a few weeks ago the payments had stopped so I tried ringing them them to see what the problem was as there were sufficient funds in my account to cover the debt, as normal I spent over an hour trying to get through to them with no avail so left a message for them to call me back. They did ring me back and explained it was a problem on their part and it would be be rectified and I would be contacted to assure me the payments were still been taken.I never received this call from them and after checking my account on the arranged payment date realized they were still not taking out the payment so decided to call them again to sort this out once and for all. I left it till just before closing time hoping I might get through to them. After afew minutes I did manage to speak to some one ,at this point I was very calm and collected and tried to explain the situation to which I was told they didn't care who I had spoken to previously and what I had been told and that I had not been making the payments as arranged and that I would be taken to court and bailiffs would be sent to my property I continuously tried to explain that it was not my fault but was spoken to with such contempt I could not believe what I was hearing .I ended up loosing my temper and asked why he was treating me this way to which I was told" because I can".

I told the man to take me to court and that it would just let the judge see what a heartless b****** company they were,he contiued to speak to me in this way until I began to cry at which point it was obvious he was getting a sick kick out of hearing me upset he also called me a cry baby and said he would only speak to me if I aplogised for swearing at him. At this point I just wanted to resolve the situation and did apologize to which he taunted "I cant hear you" three times in order for me to say it louder then laughed and I could also hear other people laughing in the background so I quickly took back the apology as I told him the situation was upsetting my children as they do not like to see there mum get upset he said he didn't care.

I also told the man that he was harassing me and that I would be taking legal action against him and would be contacting the police about these unorthodox practices to which I was told that was the funniest thing he had heard all week. At this point I realized I was wasting my time speaking to these sick people who thrive on upsetting people and terminated the phone call before he had chance to do so and in order to get back some control, which is half of the problem with these kind of people, they like to control. Any way I have taken legal advice and found out a bit more about this company and the fact they are trained to act in this way.All I can say is what is this world coming to it frightens me the mentality of some people. Will let you know what happens anyway, these people need to be challenged.

    Ruining Consumers Credit !

    7/17/2007 MO

NCO Financial Systems ruins consumers credit. I have an old medical bill that went to collections because we were waiting for our health insurance to pay it. The insurance finally DID pay it and NCO shows it paid on our credit report since 2006 but refuses to REMOVE it from our credit report which as you know lowers our credit score. We have tried to dispute it and there is no talking to their Customer Service Representatives because they are very rude and short with you. There should be something that you can do to have these removed once they have been paid.

It is impossible to clean your credit up when NCO is involved !

    Poor Customer Service

    7/10/2007 Philadelphia PA

NCO financial contacted about a bill I owe -- they offer me a "deal" .. I accepted .. I told them to send me the "deal" in writing and I will pay it within 7-10 business days ...

I was called back -- told that they do not use the mail because "mail is a call tactic" ...

Here I am -- offering to PAY a bill --- and they do not want to work with the customer.

They are mean and deceitful people

    6/5/2007

I am the mother of a 35 year old handicapped male. He got an offer from Amex in the mail for a credit card and applied. Please understand that he is of legal age but emotionally 13 years old. He put in his SSDI income not understanding that it is not "earned" income and Amex send him a credit card with $5000 credit! Well, of course when he could not pay they sent his account to these devils. They have been calling me, even tho' I am not responsible for his debts, and accusing me of lying about his condition or ability to pay. They want his brother or me to pay this debt. The people who call me won't let me talk with a supervisor to report their bad behavior and manners. The man who called me this morning - if you can call him that - accused me of lying to him. I gave him the lawyer's phone number who is handling this matter for my son, a legal aid attorney, and he said that he would call the number and call me back "if it is a bogus number." I called him back after stewing for about 30 minutes and asked him to apologize to me for implying I would give him a false number. He said "Absolutely not." When I asked to speak with his supervisor he refused. I read where the state of Pennsylvania put a judgement against them for unfair loan practices - they should have put them out of business. Don't pay these people, they are crooks. Use Consumer Credit Counseling Inc., if you have credit problems. They are much better and will actually try to help you get back on your feet. Of course if you have an Amex account, good luck. Amex won't talk to CCCS or any other credit counselling service. They must get a kick-back from NCO Financial Inc.

Speak kindly and they will malfunction

    5/18/2007

I recieved a phone call this morning by a rep from this company. I was kind to them and made an attempt to speak with them. The tone was that of a pitt bull ready to pounce!!! I asked the rep if they trained her to talk to people like that. I asked her t0 please give the courtesy of changing her tone and speaking to me the way i spoke to her. This made her more angrier. I then kindly apologized for the debt and told her i would be more than happy to pay as soon as i am financially able. she got her supervisor to join in and she got angry. Despite the abuse, I told them ( in a soft kind voice) I understand you are doing your Job and I respect that.Still they were furious and They hung up on me!! Imagine that. They hung up on me.I wonder how often that happens. They called in this ignorant manor with every intention to ruin my day. I did not let that happen.I was smiling when she hung up on me. Called to upset me huh? sorry about it.

    Employee defending his sucky job

    4/12/2007

I agree with the hospital lady. Poor gal has herself overextended on payments and her kids are sick. Robert with NCO, why don't you go help her out and babysit her kids?

Here's another thing: Have you ever thought that some people get into debt from FRAUD? I would define attempted fraud as someone calling who won't give their name or company name asking for money, attempted fraud.
If I called you tomorrow and asked for 20 bucks from your chequing account because we were buddies when we were kids and you forgot you owed me 20 bucks would you just pay?

I think its kinda sadistic that NCO doesn't give two hoots about their "customers." Frankly, its a Delinquent Service, not customer service.

Lastly, have you ever sat down and started taking a crap, only to realize you have no more TP in your house and the closest store is over 5 miles away? Yeah, that's how you make some of these people feel. Look at all the posts online. Your saying ALL those people are whiny? They are trying to find out how you guys can get away with this.

    3===========================D in NCO's eye.

    Peace

    Nightmare Customer Service

    4/3/2007 DE

I had made payment arrangement with NCO Financial on a monthly basis. After making a payment I received a statement with the orginal amount. I called the contact person Ms. Patterson, she assured me that I would receive an updated statement, after the second month of repeated calls, Ms. Patterson began to hang the phone up when she received my calls. I ask to speak to a supervisor and was referred to Ms. Twaina Ervin. She told me how I should get my check book and pay the bill or post date a check if I didn't have the funds, they are not allowed to sent updated statements because I might stop making payments. This was the most unprofessional woman with an attitude in a business environment. I began to suspect this was not a legal company. I began to tape conversations letting the parties know and I got in contact with Better Business Bureau. Ms. Patterson has called my home and when I've called back she simple would pick up her extension and say "Yeah". I am still in the process of sending payments, soon this business nightmare will be concluded.

    Unbelievable

    3/21/2007 TX

I am so glad I found this forum. What a miserable bunch of people, particularly "Customer Service Rep" Ms. Freeny and "District Manager" Holly. God love the people who have to sit next to, live around or spend anytime with these two. My heart goes out to you poor people.

I've been getting telephone messages from NCO (Ms. Freeny) for an account which is not even mine!

Let's see, I returned the call for one reason - the name they were asking for is my ex-husband's ex-wife (when I heard they name, I immediately became concerned my personal information was being used for unauthorized credit and possibly my credit).

Ms. Freeny was not available that day, but when she called me the next and I picked up, she started addressing me as the name on the account. I told her I was not that person. She told me I identified myself as her. So, back and forth we go, me saying I most certainly never identified myself as another person, she saying I did.

When I finally got a word in and asked how she got my telephone number, she told me I would have to ask the person on the account. I replied that I certainly did not have to do that since she was the one who had it. Well, she hung up on me (that may have been my fault though because I advised her the word "ask" is pronounced a-s-k, not a-x-e; hum, sorry, just trying to help out sweetheart), then hung up on me twice without even saying hello when I tried to call back.

So, I finally got Holly (District Manager...please don't forget her title, it seems very important to her). She makes accusations about me mis-representing myself, starts yelling at me, accuses me of yelling at her and goes into a rant I have never experienced in my life! Oh, and one of the best parts was Holly actually gave me the 3rd degree over why my ex-husband's name is on my telephone account if it wasn't his number too and whether or not he ever lived with me at my own address. When I told her his name was never on my telephone account nor did he live at my address, she wanted to debate me! Does she know something I don't know? Wow, that title IS powerful!

I tried to explain all I wanted was, a) to know how she got my telephone number, and 2) to be assured no one was not using my personal information to rack up bills since they were calling me for someone else's deliquent account. I don't think it unreasonable to want to be reassured of that. Well, I was obviously wrong.

According to Holly, District Manager (or was it supervisor?...just don't want to upset anyone with that title..anyway), that was not her problem. Well, she continued to yell and I got tired of playing with a mouse, so I hung up.

Hum, thanks so much Ms. Freeny and Holly for your superb customer service and assistance. It was great doing business with you.

Had only you been nicer......I could have given you the correct number to reach the party you were seeking! I even had it in my hand for you.

Oh well...at least this site helped me save 39 cent for a stamp to Prudential, or is it Prodential, or maybe Prudontial Ave. (See, Holly was nice enough to tell me there were three different ways to spell Prudential....really?) Ave in beautiful downtown Horsham Pennsylvania!

Thanks ladies, for reminding me of the oooooooooh so many good and nice things in my life!

    Ciao (that's "chow", not "c-eye-a-ooooo").

On March 20, 2007 I made numerous attempts to contact this company by phone to settle an old account. I spent approximately one and a half hours on the telephone with them. I got the complete run-around! I was transferred many times, spoke to very rude and discourteous Customer Service Reps, and also given telephone numbers that were no longer in service (877-382-4122, 866-372-8496). I was finally able to complete my business witht this company, however the entire experience required an extreme amount of patience (and praying) on my part. This company does a poor job in handling customer calls. It would seem to me that if I was calling in to settle an account they would be more cooperative and customer-friendly.

They were not that hard to deal with

    3/19/2007

These guys weren't that bad. At least they were ok when the found out i wanted to PAY.

Now, this was for my NEPHEW's credit card delinquincy, not mine - That kid has cost me way too much money - and he's my wife's nephew to boot. If he was mine he'd have a size nine up is keyster.

Back to the subject. He just stopped paying his credit cards - oh yeah and since he lived at MY (our) house for a while (while i was out in the desert taking saddam's missiles) when he first moved to this state he listed MY address. So guess who got the collection letters? Yup. So my wife and I decided to bail him out. I called NCO, explained that if they wanted some $$$ they would have to talk to me. I had the kids BDate and SSN, already. We agreed on an amount - I should have started off LOWER - they took my offer too quick. Anyway they faxed an agreement - which ended up unreadable - but i sent them the payment from MY credit card. Then ANOTHER credit letter turns up 5 months later - We thought it was this same one, so I called NCO, they actually found the old one, confirmed that it was paid and transferred me to Capital One - the original issuer - who confirmed that the account was "settled" (not "paid" which is fine because "paid" implied paid in full). Cap One is sending me a verification letter.
All in all NCO was pretty professional. Now I have to track down this other mystery account.

    Notice to Debtors:
You can eliminate most of the aggrevation by PAYING YOUR BILLS - yes I realize that this is a new concept to some.

Failing that CALL THE CREDITOR, its when you don't bother with anything that it goes to a collection agency. I know I had to deal with FOUR different (now FIVE) companies with this kid...

Early in the morning telephone calls

    2/24/2007 Fort Smith AR

This company has called my home on numerous occasions for 2 different companies. They collect for both Walmart credit cards and JC Penney credit cards. I received a call today, like many in the past. 7:15, phone rings. I see it's them, and answer it. They ask for my husband. I tell that that it is against the law to place collection phone calls before 8am. She YELLS at me and tells me to look at my clock because it's 8:15 am. I tell her that I am in central time zone and it goes by local time. She told me that I was wrong, that they can collect debts from anyone as long as it's 8am Eastern time.

So, by her point, she can call California at 8am Pennsylvania time, and it will be 5am on the west coast, but it's ok to wake someone up at that time? I think not.

    The law states specifically:

The Act prohibits certain types of "abusive and deceptive" conduct when attempting to collect debts, including the following:

    * contacting consumers by telephone outside of the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. local time

She ended up hanging up on me and has called back 4 times in the past hour and a half now.

    Need to be shut down

    2/21/2007 Philadelphia PA

This is the most awefullest place that I have had to do business with in a long time. The ladies and gentlemen that would answer the phone the 10 times or more that I called were so getto. I didn't think that people would have this type of business in the projects. I wonder do the guy who own this company act the same way. ThIs is a company that sounds as though they would steal the hairs out of your nose if you closed your eyes. The # that I called was 1-800-709-8613, if you ever have to dial this number be ready to feel as though you're talking to someone in the street.

NCO Financial Services is very unprofessional

    2/6/2007

I mailed in a check to NCO and was contacted by a very rude person from NCO telling me it should have arrived. It had only been 3 days. I tried to say that postal mail could take up to 5 to 6 days to be delivered, but the woman began yelling at me so I hung up. This company should be closed down - the people are rude, and unprofessional!

    Unwanted Cell Phone call

    1/18/2007 Glendale CA

Right about 11am today (1/18/07), my cell phone rang.. but, instead of hearing a voice, I heard a recording, saying, someone will handle YOUR CALL in a moment-- sorry for the delay. I found this strange, as I don't have this number published to anyone. So, I "waited" for whomever was calling to inform them to take MY number off their calling list. Finally, after a minute of "premium" time, some guy with broken english wanted to know if the person he was talking to was me. I demanded to know the name of the firm calling and what type of business they were in. He told me after a couple of tries. NCO Financial Services. I had never heard of them. He then asked again if this were me. I said, ummm, no, but you can remove my number from your call lists,, as this is a cell phone and I get charged minutes for taking your call, and then hung up. I'll be interested to see if they call again, as some other reporters have written, and will carry it to the next level which would filing a complaint with the FCC & BBB (though, the later is useless for the most part)

    CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS

    1/5/2007

My son recieved a letter from NCO that I was attempting to pay for him since he has been deployed to Afganastan. After attempting to pay the bill online with them it wouldnt accept the payment, therefore I called them and was on hold 12 minutes the first time, (then they just hung up) 17 minutes the second time calling....this call was answered by a extremely rude woman who kept putting me on hold every time I asked a question after all this waiting she hung up on me again! I found another number that I called and this time I could not even understand what the person on the line was saying. Not an American obviously!

    Credit Report / Payment Receipt

    10/20/2006 DE

I am in the process of buying my first house. There is a collection from NCO on my credit report that was paid in March of 2003. I called NCO a month ago to get a receipt of debt paid. They requested I send a self-addressed stamped envelope. I did so the next day. Three weeks later I had not received the receipt. Last Friday I called again and they said they never received the envelope and she would put in a request to have the receipt mailed. Yesterday I called and requested they fax the receipt because I need it to close on the house. The girls said..."Well, it might be done today...otherwise tomorrow." Surprise surprise...I call again today and when they finally find my information, they put me on hold for 10 minutes and then told me to call back because the person I needed to talk to wasn't there. I did not let that happen. SO..then what was suppose to be a supervisor got on the phone. He accused me of never sending the envelope OR calling last friday. He said they don't need to send the receipt and they do it as a courtesy. He was so rude and condescending...and all I want is a receipt to prove I paid this debt over THREE YEARS AGO. I am a good person, I work hard, I am a single mom just trying to do the best for my family. This person made me feel like a crook and for what? He wasn't making any money off of me? They are in the wrong for never marking the debt paid and they can't simply fax a receipt verifying it paid. Oh...I am soooo upset. I am going to write letters. Better Business, Federal Trade, my governor, the President, heck...OPRAH! There should be some sort of recourse for this! I have done nothing wrong and did not to deserve to be treated the way I was. It just ripples...this has consequences on my, my kids, my banker, the loan processors, the people I am buying the house from, the people they are buying THEIR house from, etc. When it would all have been fine if they could just simple fax a receipt.

    Sends 3 invoices AOL subscription

    10/1/2006

I have never even had an AOL account
Last Year I had some AOL Fraud on my CC account.
The CC Firm investigaed, had me fill out an affidavidt, etc.
4 months later the monthly charges are still posting, so I closed the CC account & told the bank ( CC company ) why. They credited all false AOL charges and closed the account.

Now a year later Im getting these unwarranted letters from NCO.

My lawyer thinks we sould file suit against AOL
    and NCO

    Debt Collectors

    9/29/2006 Horsham PA

Like the others before me, I have received an erroneous debt collection bill from NCO Fin Serv for $23.90 presumably owed to AOL. I do not have a contract w/AOL nor would I wish to. Interesting that this amount is similar to other complaints I read on this site. Anyway, I called, got someone, complained, asked them to remove my name. Now I am sending a followup written letter to them and am copying my attorney and my state's Attorney General consumer fraud division. I think this is some kind of scam and will not send them a dime.

Attempting to collect a 19 year old debt

    9/15/2006 FL

NCO Financial Systems has been sending me letters every 3 months for the past two years. The letter states that if I do not pay the entire amount within 30 days further legal action will be taken. The debt they are trying to collect is a credit card bill I defaulted on in 1987. Yes, when you do the math, it was 19 years ago. I'm not really even sure how they obtained my address. I have moved three times in the past 19 years. The letters do not really bother me. I realize the statute of limitations has obviously expired. And this particular debt does not show on my credit report.

My main reason for posting this message is due to my concern for individuals who may not be aware of this type of "scam" and may just pay the debt out of fear of legal action or decrease in credit rating. There should definitely be something done about NCO as well as other similar companies.

    Strange Phone Call

    8/29/2006

I received a voice mail around 8:00 PM on a phone number I just activated at 2 PM that same day, to call a "Mr. Lewis" at 888-626-2905. I called, they requested the phone number, then asked for a "Susan Clark" who does not live here. I responded that there was no such individual and that I had only had this number since the afternoon. They replied that they had a wrong number and they would remove it from their system. We'll see.

    NCO...What debt???

    7/19/2006

I am amazed at the sheer volume of poor reviews for NCO. I got a letter from them a while back that stated I owed a credit card company $10K from 1992. I was a little taken aback, as I'd never had that credit card. I called to straighten things out. I explained I had never had the card, (nor any card before), had no job at the time that I supposedly received the card, and had not lived at the address they had for me for 1992 since about '86. They insisted I owed the money and demanded payment anyway. When I again said, "Hey, this isn't mine!", the agent suggested that my husband had probably gotten the card behind my back and run up $10K at strip clubs. I wasn't married in 1992. I finally just hung up. I throw away mail from them now, unopened. Of course, when I ordered my credit report the debt did not appear. So what's the moral of my story? Beats me!

NCO harrassing me - trying to collect PAID debt

    5/12/2006

For the last several months I have received harrassing letters and phone calls from NCO to pay a debt that is not only over 16 years old, but one I PAID another collection agency for 6 years ago! I initially ignored NCOs contacts for fear that if I responded they could slap it back on my credit report as active, but now I'm just angry. I called NCO and they say the onus is on ME to prove I paid, but I say the onus is on THEM to prove I owe! I no longer have the actual records of the collection agency I paid, but do recall that same company billed me for the same debt 2 months after cashing my original check and I called them on it then. I think these agencies not only sell your debt but sell records of people who PAY with the idea that if those people receive another bill in a few years they will PAY AGAIN! I refuse to go to the expense of retrieving records from my bank to prove I don't own anything, but I will certainly now file a dispute with NCO. And their operators run you in circles.

    NCO Reps Rude and Uncooperative

    3/28/2006

I am in the process of cleaning up my credit of bad debts that I opened in college or shortly thereafter. I came across a collection account of my credit report for a Bellsouth telephone/dsl account dating back to 2003. Neither NCO nor Bellsouth had sent any correspondence to me in the past; they sent correspondence to an old address that I haven’t lived at in 3 years. It’s amazing they can add accounts to my credit report, yet they do not review my credit report for my current address.

In January of 2006, I sent NCO a certified letter (return receipt requested) making a settlement offer the account. If I would not have pulled my credit report I would not have known NCO had the debt. I did not receive a response even though someone in their office signed for it. I proceeded with cleaning up other accounts.

On March 16, 2006 I called NCO and offered to make a settlement on the account. She stated that Bellsouth did not do settlements. I called a few more times over the next several days hoping to get a different answer from a different representative. They all stated the same thing, “Bellsouth doesn’t do settlements”.

On March 23, 2006 I spoke with a different rep with an Austrailian accent. I asked about the settlement and she stated “Bellsouth won’t settle”. Since I couldn’t get them to settle I figured I would ask for them to delete the collection account once I paid it in full. Even if they didn’t agree to it, it was worth asking. The worst they could say was no. So I listened to her spill about how I owe the debt and I should pay it, blah, blah, blah. I begin to explain to her, that since I am paying it in full can they remove the collection account. She says that can be worked out once I pay the debt. Then she asks me to do a check by phone. I don’t do check by phone and I don’t do Western Union. She becomes irate and tells me I don’t want to pay. I say I wouldn’t be asking for a settlement if I had no intention on paying. I asked her for the address where I can send payment and she becomes more irate. She then goes on the say that I have made promises to pay in the past and that I hadn’t paid. Now she is lying and I am becoming upset. I have not spoken to anyone in her office about promising to pay anything. I ask again if she could send me something in writing stating I owe the debt and that when I pay the debt this will resolve the matter. She became more irate when I asked for something in writing. I speak to a supervisor and he says they cannot send anything in writing because they do not want to be sued. I say it is ridiculous that they can do that. I don’t care what is in my credit report I’m not send a dime to anyone with something in writing. He then goes on to say they sent out a statement and I can pay it then. These clowns will wait until I am good and ready before I give them a nickel. I am now in the process of contact with OC and pay them.

    Customer Service...or lack thereof

    2/17/2006

I am writing to report on the negative experience I had doing buisness with NCO Financial systems. My overall experience was not terrible, however, the most recent phone call was extremely unpleasant. I was contacted by a representative of the organization on behalf of Bank of America. I was not aware of any debt that I owed to Bank of America, but I had recently closed an account, so I assumed that it may have been something that did not post until after the account was closed. The first representatiive that I spoke with was very nice and professional. She explained to me who she represented, who the debt was for, and that she would like to try to settl ethis debt with me. She advised me that I owed around $430.00 but could settle the account for $370, payable in two post dated checks of Dec 27 and Jan 27. I agreed and proceeded to give her my account information. On Dec 27, my checking account was debited for the agreed amount.

I was again contacted around the middle of January from another representative. He contacted me at my work and said that he tried to contact my bank to verify the funds, but the bank had never heard of me. He then asked for my account information again. I asked him to hold on and explained to him that I was at work and I had some people to tend to and I would be back with him. I placed him on hold and when I returned to the phone, he had hung up. I did not hear from anyone else again, and I did not have the phone number to call back.

A few weeks later (around Feb 10th) I was again contacted by an NCO representative while I was at work. He told me this time that he was calling to settle a debt of from Bank of America. I advised him that I had already made arrangments with NCO to handle this. He said that the last account information that I provided ws not right and that I needed to provide him with alternate payment. Again, I was at work and asked him to hold while I retrieved my account info. I again returned to the phone to find that he hung up again.

Now today, the same gentleman contacted me (at work again) and asked me to settle the debt in full for $277.99. I advised him again that the payments were for $185.33 and he said that since the second check did not clear and that since I had hung up on him the two previous times that he could not settle for less that $277.99 and that I had to present a credit card payment in full at that time I asked him if we could set it up for a draft on 3/1/06 at which time my taxes would be there because I could not cover the $277.99 right now-doing so would leave me without any funds in my account. He said " No it won't because NCO did not draft the $185.00 out on Jan 27th so that should still be in there" . DUH!!! He just said that he had to debit $277.99!!! I asked again why the funds from the post dated check could not be verififed and he said because the account number was not recognized. I explained to him that I had not had this problem with the first transaction and why could he not pull my previous check and verify the numbr that way. He said that was just not how things worked and that he would not take another check from me anyways.
I finally decided to settle the account in full with him, because I was going to make sure that my credit report indicated that I paid in full and not charged off or settled for less than full. I gave the rep my card number and apparenlty he could not type very fast, so he told me to slow down and start all over with my account nuimber. At the end I asked him if there was anything else I could do for him because I needed to get back to work and he said "Look lady you don't have to be like this. It's not my fault that you were uncooperative and we voided your agreement. That will teach you not to put us on hold". Sad to say that he had taken what was left of my sefl control. I asked him to provide a receipt and he said "Sure but I cannot guarantee that it will get there". I then told him not to contact me anymore about this account or my lawyer would be contacted.

Unfortunately, this is not the first colelctor I have encountered, but by far the biggest jerk in the industry. If I am ever to be contacted by NCO again, I will snail mail all payments and will refuse any phone interaction. When faced with a debt, I do my part and pay it back, although it may not be as quick as they want it. However I do not deserve to be treated as if I am a third rate criminal!!

Why would they ask for my S.S# ?

    2/3/2006 AZ

I had a mere $322.00 bill to pay which isn't my issue; I intend to pay what I owe. My issue is that this particular lady was insistent about my personal information such as my Account Number, Routing Number and Social Security Number when I was informed that I can settle the account by paying a lump sum of $209.30 with a five dollar charge but I can only do that over the phone because it’s expired last month of January and if I mail mailed the check it would have to be for the full balance. Now I’m wondering what’s the difference is paying a bill by mail vs. the phone. If the lump sum is expired, shouldn’t I pay the full balance vs. the shady request over the phone involving delicate info?

I asked if I could send a Money Order vs. a personal check and they got slightly annoyed with me.

Well, I plan on sending a check of $209.30 for the lump sum anyways via snail mail just to see what happens. I know that if they REFUSE any form of payment ranging from $5 a month to just the lump sum of $209.30 vs. the $322.00 full balance, the contract will become void and I don’t have to pay a dime.

    NCO A fraudulent company

    12/2/2005 Phoenix AZ

I got a call from NCO and they wnated to collected a dedt that they said I owed but I didn't know anything about it I stated to the man that I had never recieved a bill from them and that I had never heard of the place they were talking about then the man said that I had more than one dedt with them and to make things worse the dedt I suposedly owed was 4 years old. I asked well why are just now calling me and why haven't you sent me a bill in the mail I found it all vary suspicious because he had stated to me that they wait for the bill to pile up before they call. He was also very rude then he asked me for my address I told him well if you have my phone number than you obviously have my address and you read it off to me and he refused to. And now they are calling every day with some automated message saying to call this 1-800-933-6736 that I have a very important message from Mr. Speeks I am seriousely thinking about filling a compliant with a Attorney Generals office of my state I have a friend who was a police officer for years who ivestigated these kinds of fruad. I am going to get to the bottom of this.

And futher more for any NCO employee out there who wants to call poeple morrons because poeple fall on hard times you are the morrons. I will make every effort to pay my bills if treated appropriately and fairly And if I receive a bill in the mail and am given adequate time to pay it if it is large not only that but not every one who has bills is in credit card dedt. Some poeple have unforeseen medical expenses.

    Thanks,

    Hart

    I've never experienced such harrassment

    10/9/2005 NJ

I would have never guessed that I would find so many complaints against NCO. I'm so glad that I came across this site.

For the past few weeks, I have come home to find several "hang ups" on my answering machine. I'm talking at least 7 attempted calls per day, everyday and no messages. Finally, last week I was awaken by a phone call from one of NCO's collection agents. He identified NCO as the company that he was calling from and the alleged company that he was calling on behalf of. He then proceeded to go into the details of the debt that I suppossedly owe. At no point did this individual verify with whom he was speaking with or ask for the usual last four digits of a SS, etc. I immediately asked him if NCO has sent out anything in writing and stated that I will not disclose any personal information via telephone with any company that I do not know. I also stated that I will contact the alleged creditor to find out what was going on and why I'm being contacted by NCO. This man must have tried every trick in the book to get me to commit to a payment, he even told me that if I contacted the original creditor, they would not speak with me and would forward my call directly to NCO. Once he realized that I was not going to budge, he then stated that I was basically telling him that I refuse to cooperate and have no intention of paying my bill and that he will recommend my account to their legal department. I said good-bye and humg up. Two days later another individual from NCO contacted me and identified himself as an attorney in the "legal" department. What?!?!? Again, this individual did not verify whom he was speaking with and proceeded to go into the details of an account balance. I said absolutely nothing and agreed to nothing. I then stated the same as previous, that I want to speak with the creditor in question and I want something in writing from NCO. He then asks me when I was going to call and what I was going to say to them, to which I replied "That is none of your business". Out of nowhere, a collection manager jumps on the phone and identifies himself as this other guys' manager (hmmmmm...now why would the "collection" manager be this "attorney's" manager???)I later found out that they lied and this so called "attorney" was another collector.

This "manager" was the worst of them all. He was arrogant, rude and even more unprofessional that the other two individuals. He told me that my request for a statement or something in writing from NCO was not going to happen and that I was making "impossible" demands. He constantly raised his voice, lectured me on his theory of credit and attempted to bully me into making a payment directly to them. He was making statements such as "this call is not about the money", "I don't care if you pay your bill or not", "?? credit company wants nothing to do with you and would prefer that you don't pay them", etc. The whole time, I'm listening to the laughter going on in the background from his audience of so called "professional collectors". I was so apalled and bothered by NCO's unprofessional and aggressive harrassment and strong-arm tactics, that I told this man that I was going to contact the Better Business Bureau and any other agency necessary and file a complaint. He then yelled something about how he doesn't care and it's not going to bother him and hung up on me (only to call back twice in a 10 minute time frame). Well we'll see about that! I'm not going to allow them to get away with their lack of business etiquette.

To make a long story short, regardless of whether or not someone owes a debt, companies such as NCO have no right to harass or make threats. This is why it is very important to KNOW YOUR RIGHTS under the FDCPA. You can go online and find a ton of information on how to handle and if applicable take action against these type of debt collectors. Simply put, you do not have to give out personal information or discuss anything until you know who you are dealing with and why they are contacting you. Any professional business will have no problem putting their intent in writing and providing proof.

NCO ignores your rights because they get away with it, which is painfully obvious after reading all of the complaints against them. Stay one step ahead of them. Nothing turns them off more than realizing that you are not afraid to go toe to toe with them LEGALLY!!!! and not by wasting your time arguing with them in a verbal tug or war, which they are notorious for.

    Paying NCO or Original Creditor?

    8/1/2005 na MO

I moved into a new apartment about 6 months ago, I didn't realize that there was still a balance on an old utility account (about $750). I started receiving letters from NCO around May/June. I spoke to someone on the phone who indicated that they would not accept anything less than the total amount due. I told her that I was willing to make payments and she said absolutely not, not until she saw proof that I tried to take out a loan to get this debt paid. I told her that I wasn't even going to attempt to do that. I went to the OC's website and was able to make a payment - I made a $100 payment at the end of June. I sent the OC an e-mail indicating I was going to keep making payments this way. They said that I could either keep making payments to them or send the payments to NCO. I decided to keep making the payments to the OC, as I have read on this site that NCO has a tendancy to 'lose' your payments or not post them correctly. I was unable to make a payment until the end of July; however did make another payment in the amount of $80. I received a letter from NCO stating they were going to futher their collection efforts. What does this mean? Can they sue me for the amount due? I am sending them all of the extra money I have left-over at the end of the month.....should I contact NCO or should I just keep making payments to the OC?

How long do companies hang on to bad debt?

    7/31/2005 Horsham, PA

Having spent the last 5 years or so rebuilding my credit rating following a bankruptcy (discharged in 1991), imagine my "surprise" in receiving a letter from the above mentioned company informing me that they had purchased my account and were now looking for payment. The thing that is staggering is the amount.

On an initial balance of around $2800 at 6% interest they show an accrued interest of $2400!!!! This has got to be a record of some kind. Oh yeah, and this letter was not even sent to me directly, but to my mother's address where I have never lived.

The closest I can figure is that one of the credit cards that was discharged (in 1991) had a balance close to the amount mentioned in the letter. I have already written a reply letter requesting information about this alleged debt.

Which brings me back to the topic question - How can a debt that was discharged in 1991 still show up on the books of any company? Do I have to watch out not only for identity thieves but also low-life leeches trying to intimidate me into paying debts that are dead and buried?

    NCO Financial Systems Compliment
    Posted By: NOYB on 7/12/2005

JUST PAY YOUR BILLS!!! - JUST PAY YOUR BILLS!!

To All the complainers in the world....
It's funny, you guys go in debt and its automaticlly the collecters fault! HA HA!! Simple, if you paid your bills in the first place, THEY WOULDN"T BE CALLING YOU!!! DUH!! Common sense people! OH! That's right, you guys don't have any! I know collectors can be unprofessional, arrogant, and abusive, but do you know why? Because they get a commission of all the payments they collect! They want more money, just like any other person in the world! But all you have to do is send a "Cease & Desist" letter to NCO with the account number, and they'll stop calling....

BUT!! PAY YOUR BILLS ALSO!! Bad credit...NOT FUN!!! It will go on your credit as a negative account, and your credit score is dropped, whoever you may owe, and that will prevent you from getting ANYTHING!! A car, a house, a boat, whatever! You need good credit in life, otherwise, you'll be screwed! To all the people in here who complain about more money being tacked on to the account, it's called interest! Everyday that you do not pay your account, more & more interest is tacked on, the creditor CAN do that, read the fine print! The creditor can do anything they want, (creditor-the original company that you owe, not NCO!) NCO is a bill collections firm.... So stop your bi*chin' and PAY YOUR BILLS! Have a nice one! :)

    Customer Service - marathon of a run-around

    6/7/2005 Philadelphia PA

I tried closing an account that was paid in full in 2002 but was still on my credit report under 'NCO Financial'. I spoke to a representative named "Ms. Hartman" who collected my physical address and told me that a confirmation letter would be in the mail. When I didn't receive it and called the company again (same number as before) I was advised (on several different occassions)that a "Ms. Hartman" did not EXIST and it was an automated system....funny, especially when the lady who identified herself spelled her name for me. It took over 2 HOURS, speaking to over 8 people and becoming so infuriated that I broke into a sweat in my office (on top of getting put on hold and getting cut off before even pronouncing my name) before I fianlly reached someone who could help me.....Customer Service seems more like Sham Service to me.

    VERY VERY UNPROFESSIONAL

    6/2/2005

This company has contacted me about a collection from AT & T phone service. My AT & T house phone is still on, so ask the collection agent to send me something in writing because it did not make sense to me that you are calling me on a collection for telephone service that I still have. They tell me they have made 2 attempts to send something and they will not send me anything else because they do not know If I will get this time and because they have the correct address in their system they are not sending me another bill. I told her for me to return your call must mean I want to settle this bill otherwise I would just avoid the phone call. She still refused to send me something and continued to argue telling me they are not going to send me anything & if she did try how do they know I will get the bill if I didn't get it before. This company has the time run up their companies telephone bill to call me but yet they do not want to spend .37 cents to send me bill. The young lady ended the call by telling me that I will know that I went to collection when AT & T shuts my service off.

Help Needed w/ Receipt / Payment Confirmation

    4/6/2005 Horsham PA

    Hi,
I had a collection from NCO which I didn't know about. It was for $50 and now its holding up my home loan. The lender required that I pay of the balance which I did. But now NCO says its going to take 2 weeks for them to have any kind of receipt or payment confirmation. They said they can fax anything either. Does anyone know if there is any other way I can get something from that says I've made this payment.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

NCO's 800# costs them $ when you call!

    3/22/2005

    NCO is listed on Nasdaq.
Here's their 800 # - it costs them money when you call them.
800-220-2274. LEt them know what you think.

    Had the cancelled check

    3/7/2005 NH

It is very simple....I was sent to Verizon for collection of a debt...I received a notice from NCO Financial trying to collect. I went straight to my cancelled check and pulled out the check made payable to Verizon for the amount of the "debt". I called NCO Financial and spoke to an extremely rude individual and told him that I had the cancelled check. I asked that he provide me with a fax number so that I could fax a copy of the cancelled check. He refused and hung up telling me to just pay the money I owe. I did nothing until I got the second notice and recalled. The second person could not have been more helpful..toll free fax number, her manager's name, as well as her name. I think in whole, NCO Financial is a Bi-polar company and should not make it so hard for people to correct an error that they may have.

    Pay Your Bills

    3/6/2005

I know I'm going to get a lot of flack, and I'm sorry, but if you people who have trouble with NCO would just pay your bill or make payment arrangements, and send them money, you'd probaly never hear from them again, as long as you keep up on the agreed upon monthly payments, they probaly would never call you again.
Where is this NCO located that people say their so evil, if Debtbasher works for them and never hears this type of talk, I think it's crazy they get away with how they treat there customers.
I think one day, I will call them, just to see how their customer service skills are.

    rude threatening call

    3/3/2005 IL

I'll admit I don't know who these people are. At this point I don't know if I have a legitimate debt w/them or not.I believe NOT.I've heard several messages on my answering machine to call 1 866 267-2412 ext.2478.They left me a message w/just my first name as though they knew me forever. I called them this evening. The person who called me had gone for the day, but the wiseguy who answered, immediately tried to verify my personal info, such as my complete name,Jr or Sr. address etc. I would not cooperate. I first questioned them as to who they were and why are they calling me. He in turn questioned the same. I stated I was returning a call and needed to know what this call was in response to. He told me neither. He hung up addressing me by my first name, threatening for me to"be ready", by 8am tomorrow morning. What that means I don't know, but it sure sounds intimidating. I'd like to MEET him and whup his @#$$%*&azz....I then called back w/a different name and approach. I could only get their name... NCO Finacial, and assured by the man that this was not a sales call. I didn't give him any real info about me,but i have a feeling I'll hear from them again. I'll write back when I do, but I think they have the wrong guy here.

Where did you get my name?

    2/14/2005 NC

First off, let me say that I have never had anything referred to a credit agency in my life. NCO first called me over 3 weeks ago claiming I owed them money for an account that I've never had before. They claim that they have my name and SS # which when given to me by a rude employee, I then found out that A) the middle initial is not mine and B) the social security number is nowhere near mine. I explained this over and over again only to not have the person not believe me, but the same employee called me yet the next day once again hounding me for money that I didn't owe.
It doesn't stop there, a few days later they called my parents asking them how to get in contact with myself. How they got my parents # (who I haven't lived with in over 15 years is beyond me). When I then contacted them back at their 1-800 # (1-800-265-7197...please everyone call them and harrass them like they have done to you)anyway, when I contacted them back asking why and how they contacted my parents after already telling them they had the wrong person, the employee once again became combative and would not believe me after once again stating they had incorrect info.
The ver next day they once again contacted my parents who once again backed up my story that they were looking for the wrong person.
I have since contacted an attorney who will be sending them a "Cease and Desist" letter. I advise anyone that has been contacted by this company to do the same.

    NCO Financial

    1/21/2005

Oh my gosh after reading everyone's complaint on this ridicouls company I am glad I am not the only one ready to file a harrassment claim at these *******. Rude is not the word for these people they call me constantly! Regarding a bill I have never seen! Just before christmas I demanded to talk to a supervisor (Whatever)I should have talked to a wall, I would have got farther. Some rude *** wanted my checking account numbers over the phone when I asked him for his personal info and checking account numbers in return, well then that was a different story. I have never heard of any legitamate company not sending you a bill so one could prove it to be legitimate. And from what Ive read on the costant complaints on this company I will not respond nor pay them for it sounds like it wont change anything anyway. I will still recieve nasty, rude calls from their employees so why pay them. I have contacted an attorney and hopefully will get some answers on what can be done with this fradulent company! I am so glad I found this site to vent I have had it with these people.

    poor service

    1/17/2005 west branch IA

i have been fighting for over a year now over an airborne express account which i paid, but was forwarded to nco anyway. i have been very cooperative with nco and have given them (repeatedly) my check numbers with which the account was paid. i also went to my bank and had the micro-fiche copies printed and sent those in as well. after about 6 months of back and forth, they stopped calling - until last week (i had about 6 months of a break). the SAME acct is in question, but now i'm being charged late fees! why am i being charged late fees when i've paid this acct?! i've yet to receive a bill, too, which is what is really the most irritating thing about this whole mess. who would give up their credit card info over the phone to a company that doesn't even take the time to send a bill?

When does NCO post your payment?

    12/31/2004 WA

2 days ago I reached a "settlement" with them and agreed in writing to send them a certain amount of money by today. They wrote me a letter stating that this settlement will be reached as long as they receive my money by today.
Well, I did not want to give them my checking account info (scary), so yesterday I Western Union'd my money over. Western Union confirmed with me that NCO received my payment within one minute of my sending it, and it printed up on NCO's computer at their PA corporate office.
The branch NCO office refuses to send me a letter stating that they have received my money and that my account has been settled. Manager said he would as soon as corporate (PA) "posts" my payment.
I am freaked that they will just not do their part, and post my payment after the weekend. In which, they may try to say that they didn't get my payment on time. Has anyone had problems with them not posting your payment to your account? Do you know if they post them at the end of the day, or when? If my questions are not clear, let me know and I will clarify. Thanks a bundle!

    Credit collection

    12/20/2004

I had called NCO earlier and received a voice recording stating that I should leave my name, number, etc, and some guy would get back to me. I didn't leave my information and then surfed the web to find out more information on this company because it sounded very weird that a collection agency would not be manned 24/7. I was looking up this site and found a lot of complaints about NCO and was afraid to call back the number on the collection notice.
So what I did do was called the credit card company which I owed the debt, which of course the call was then automatically forwarded to NCO anyway but I felt much better about it since I used the phone number from the credit card company.
The collector was very helpful and agreed on the settlement and gave me her phone number and extension for me to call back and I did and it just made me feel a bit more confident in dealing with this lady.
    Hope this helps.

    NCO=trouble

    12/16/2004 san francisco CA

NCO is a collection agency that uses unethical tactics to try and collect money. i do not dispute my debt, but refuse to work with this company after researching their methods. they drain bank accounts, call endlessly, they are rude and unprofessional. i told the ahole that i knew his name wasnt bill shakley(they all use alias') he lied to me again, told me his supervisor was standing behind him, when i asked to speak with the supervisor he made an excuse why he couldnt come to the phone. by all means dont start payments to this company. i have contacted my state atty general and the bbb of PA.

    HELP!

    12/12/2004

Hey guys....I had a debt with MBNA 5 years ago and due to my past irresponsibility the debt has been turned over to NCO. They have called me for the last 8 months or so and yes there must be call centers with alot of people that suck. But I know people suck and no one can change them. SO, the debt started at mbna at $1600, now with all the interest and years of late fees its at $5500. I asked last week if they would settle and my rep said they would but the lowest would be $3000. Well that is still alot of extra cash to come up with. IT seems that employee's at NCO do not understand this. What I want to know is if there is anyway i can settle and set up monthley payment with NCO. Also what is the benefit of paying the entire balance insted of just paying the settlement. Will all this come off my credit if i pay the entire amount, or am i screwed for the next 7 years. By the way I know i have done this to myself and want to take care of this, this is why I am on here

    Thanks

    harassment

    12/6/2004 MD

Ok, NCO Financial and their collection practices are truly off the hook! My ex husband listed me as an authorized user on a credit card, while we were still together, in 1995. We separated in 1998. He incured debt. Jack Stewart from NCO has called my parents house, looking for my ex. My mother (77yo and currently hospitalized) must have been listed as a reference (nearest relative not living with you sort of thing). Good Ol' Jack called Pops tonite, says mom was listed as a co-applicant, and he will collect the debt from my parents. Of course I had to get involved, tell Jack to get off my folks backs, it's not their debt, it's their dead beat son in law's. Jack likes to yell, and not let you get a word in edgewise. He told me he wont leave my parents alone until I produce my ex, who has been unreachable. Anyway, if anyone could please provide me with the Address info of NCO, Please do ... I need it to write to the FTC and the States Attorneys Office.

    Patriotism of NCO reps....NOT!

    11/26/2004 IL

Like so many of you, I have been on the receiving end of regular abusive language from these professionals of NCO.
When I advised them that I just was home on leave from Iraq/Kuwait after 9 months. Suit had been filed last year in county court and my dad represented me as I was preparing to head out.
The judge dismissed the matter and advised NCO's rent a lawyer to move on.
When I related this, Mr. Williams asked me if I wanted a medal or something. When was I gonna pay this old account? Then he called me a jerk-off and hung up.
I called back and someone named Jamal claimed to be his supvr and said he never heard Williams call me a j.o.
Anyway, to make a long story short, he denied the judge's order and told me I would be hearing from.

This dispite a cease and decyst letter sent certified and signed for. He also said no one by the signed name ever worked for them.

I doubt the BBB or Feds can do anything, but ...................

Those toll free numbers cost NCO when used, hm....

Did you realize that some of the calls are handled by outsourcing to Haiti and India?
(Check it out on the President's page on NCO web page)

It seems their record system is based on your telephone number. Anybody confirm this?
    Will call block stop them?

    Best to all,
    Sp-4 Trapper

    What do I do now?

    11/24/2004

Due to unforseen circumstances, I had to leave my job. This caused a significant drop in income. I contacted all of my creditors to explain the situation, and to request advisement on what to do as far as paying on my accounts on such a limited income. All but one was willing to work with me.

This creditor has now referred my account to NCO. I spoke with a representative with the creditor days before my account was referred to collections, and, again, they were unwilling to work with me. The representative from NCO, however, has been quite vocal since my file landed on his desk.

He has used several tactics listed in other posts here...calling several times a day in rapid succession (I counted 5 times in 2.5 minutes one day), calling my parents (and discussing matters with them), calling my in-laws (at a number they just had activated--I don't even have that number yet), calling me at work, and how he's resorted to calling me at least once a day.

I have explained my situation to him, and he listened. However, even though he seems to be willing to "work" at things, he still comes across as rather insulting and rude. He has told me on several instances that he would rather not use a monthly payment plan, has offered to shave off a bit of the debt, and has even told me to ask a family member for a loan or to transfer my balance to one of their credit cards and pay them (none of them are willing to do this). I am at a loss here. Before this income snag I was never late with a payment and usually paid more than the minimums. Trust me, if I had the money my account wouldn't be in collections right now. I really want to resolve this, but I am unable to at the present time due to budget restraints. I have told the NCO representative this several times, but it doesn't seem to help any. Financially, I cannot do anything at this time (yes, I've applied for other cards and loans, denied for all of them despite the good credit rating the rep. says I have).

Yes, the debt is mine. As I have said before, if I had the money, I wouldn't be here. What can I do???

    Harrassing collectors

    11/23/2004

Most collection agency employees work on a commission basis.
I have had the most difficult time dealing with NCO. They suck.
I am well aware that I have an outstanding debt that NCO is now handling.
The funny thing is I told NCO I was unable to make a monthly payment of $700, because I don't even make that much a month. That didnt matter. Then when I wanted them to speak with the owner of the home I am staying in they said to me they weren't able to speak with them even after I gave them permission to.
Well I am passing this information on to the BBB and to whatever government body that would help me and many others avoid harrassment by these highly unprofessional people.
I also know that if I send them $70 a month they won't refuse it.

    harrassment again from NCO

    10/15/2004 horsham PA

I'm not sure if some of you remember me, I had complained about harrassment on behalf of this company. I was given advice on suing NCO, but I decided they stopped bothering me and I've been trying to work out payment arrangements with the original creditor. I make payments directly to Mastercard, I will not pay NCO.

I had a cease all communications letter that I had sent last Novemember (it was the reason the illegally took money out of my account) they claimed since they couldnt call me , it was there right.

ANyway.. I've was getting calls from both a " James" who always leaves a message for me in a mumbled slurred voice and a Karen Foster.

Well Karen FOster got ahold of me on a Sunday morning. My hubby answered the phone not checking the caller ID. SHe starts telling me she was from NCO and right away I told her she's violating the law, that NCO is to have no phone contact with me. She told me she could call me whenever she wanted 7 days a week. I told her I will be happy to file another complaint with the PA attorney general and she told me I had to grow up and pay my bills. I told her I was working out arrangements with my original creditor and she proceeded to tell me that citibank wont work with me because I'm a baby that cant pay my bills, she even went to tell me how she makes 90, 000 a year and can pay her bills.

I wish I would have had a recorder on me.

I know they have definitely broken the law now.

Just wanted to vent. How do these morons get away with talking to people like this?? I've worked in customer service for many years and have known people who got fired for less.

    Minimum Amount For Suit

    9/20/2004

So the vote seems to be pretty split on here....
Some of you think that NCO does actually
sue people. Others are adament that they don't,
and that they're just all bark, but no bite.

My question to you is... what's the lowest
(minimum) amount that anybody on here
has ever been sued over, as far as their
    debt goes with NCO?

Because I believe that is something that's never been covered before on this site. Your feedback is appreciated. Cheers!

Make sure you have the right agency

    9/7/2004

I have seen a lot of complaints for NCO Financial Systems posted on this web site. I too was looking for more information on this account, but after looking carefully at these complaints I noticed there are several agencies with this name. It might be a good idea in the future that if a complaint is being done that you state where they are located so all these agencys with the same name do not get a bad rap.

    How do I resolve this?

    8/27/2004 Washington DC

Once upon a time, about a year ago, I was going through an FBI background check for my job. My investigator checked my credit report and told me I had an account in collection. It was with RMA and had been submitted by AT&T Wireless in the amount of $169. Now, I've had an account with AT&T Wireless since 1999 and I pay it on time every month; AT&T told me they were sure I didn't owe them money. I disputed this with the credit agencies and it was taken off my credit report.

Fast forward to the present: I'm finally ready to buy my first condo. I don't make that much money and the real estate market here in DC is crazy, so I'm relying on my outstanding credit to get me qualified for a fairly large mortgage.

    Enter NCO.

I check my credit report just to be safe, and the AT&T Wireless account is back in collection, this time with NCO Financial. I still have an account with AT&T in good standing. I dispute it again with the credit agencies, but this time, Equifax says that NCO insists that the account belongs to me (I haven't heard from the other two credit agencies).

I plan to write a validation letter, but what do I do if/when they do not respond? Might they give me the account number from the original AT&T account over the phone? AT&T suggested I should ask for this and that they would then verify whether it was actually my account.

    Employees

    8/19/2004

Today I received the last call from NCO I will ever answer. In January of this year I made a payment to a medical company I had previous arrangements with. I had been paying them for a long time, about a year. My son had a Grand Mal seizure in February and I did not send them the $20.00 payment I had been making, until April. After I sent the payment in April, a week or two later, I received a notice from NCO that my account had been given to them. I did not understand why, I honestly hadn't even thought about it being 2 months of no payments since I had my mind on EEG's, neurologists, etc. I did not call them, as I had sent my payment to the medical company already. I continued to pay the medical company. In July, I received a call from a nice man at NCO asking me if he could discuss this account w/me. I stated yes and explained to him that I had been paying the company. He asked if he could check with them and then call me back. I said yes. He called back and told me that I was to go ahead and continue paying the medical company as I had been, and thanked me for my time and honesty. I then started getting a bunch of calls from NCO. I asked why they were calling since this had been worked out w/the first employee who called. I have probably talked to 6 people, at least, and explained everything. I know I've been called over 30 times. Today the employee, on the phone, hung up on me when I told her I was tired of the harrassment. If they can't put notes on the account that I am paying the company not my problem. There was only $25.00 left to pay the medical company and then I guess NCO wants $25.00. Sadly, I was willing to do all this quickly, but the constant ringing and having to explain the same thing over and over, I have moved this bill behind all the other medical bills. That's right,I try to pay everyone and I am paying $700.00/mo to medical bills (we have no insurance). I even started paying past bills on my credit report because I am so thankful for what the medical establishment has done for our child. So the bottom of the list gets $1.00/mo until I am able to move them up or until someone else acts stupid and gets put on the bottom of the list. Not everyone is a deadbeat or someone who doesn't want to pay. My friends lost their house over a medical bill, put up at sheriffs auction, because they couldn't pay fast enough on a $800,000 bill. You just can't win even when you try.

    Very Rude and cover up

    7/27/2004

I was called by a lady named Ms. Jackson from NCO. She stated that she was calling me to collect a debt on behalf of Cingular Wireless. She stated that I owed them almost two hundred dollars. I questioned her about what it was for since the original amount I owed Cingular was for almost nine hundred. I explained to her that Cingular made a big mistake on my account and that they pulled it out of collections to fix the error. Ms. Jackson stated that they have not pulled it out of collections because she was calling me. She then told me that since I was being a smarty mouth that there was no need to be talking to me. I hung up on her. I then called cingular to find out what was going on. They confirmed that the collection was pulled out, but that NCO was trying to collect there 18% still. A representative from Cingular immediately sent them a email stating that my account was sent to them in error. I called NCO to speak with Ms. Jackson. However, another rude lady stated that Ms. Jackson did not take incoming calls. She then put me on hold. I heard a lady snikering in the background as this new lady was attemping to tell me why I owed them the almost two hundred dollars. She then referred the matter to a supervisor because of an email she just received from Cingular. Anyhow, what I am trying to say is the NCO sucks, and I have an opinion that NCO is deceptive in nature. They need to hire better people or put there people on PROZAC. The good thing is that the conversations where recorded and a complaint with the Attorney Generals office had been filed. Cant wait to see what happens.

I have had several calls from a female named Christina regarding an account that NCO Financial obtained. I have tried to explain to her that I was not responsible for the account. She went on to agrue with me that she had called my home several times and left messages with a female. Odd, since I'm the only female in the home. Also that statements had been sent out. After agruing with me, cursing at me and hanging up on me I discovered from a supervisor that the company had the wrong address they were sending statements to. I continued to get calls from Christina, the last being today. I told her calmly that I had spoken to a supervisor and I had asked she not call me again. Christina told me that she never called me prior to today. She again hung up on me when I spoke to another supervisor I was accused of lying by that supervisor, Joseph. He heard the entire conversation and Christina told him that I hung up on her during a call on 16 July. Gee, Christina had just told me she never called me, yet she said I hung up on her days ago. Now who's the liar? When I asked to speak with his supervisor I was told he "was it." I questioned if he was the owner, "mr. NCO Financial" to which he replied he was. NCO Financial is staffed by rude, unprofessional thugs.

    NCO is TERRIABLE!

    7/21/2004

I have made every attempt to work with NCO and that is impossible. The people they have working there have no clue as to what they are doing. They have done nothing but jerk me around and lie the whole time. They make one settlement and after half of the money was paid they up the balance and demand that it all be paid at once. No payment plan is available as promised. They are extremely RUDE and NASTY.

    NCO COLLECTION

    7/20/2004 CA

MY HUSBAND RECEIVED A LETTER FROM NCO IN MAY OF 2004 FOR A MEDICAL BILL THAT WAS NOT PAID SINCE BACK IN 2000. I CALLED NCO AND INFORMED THEM THAT THE INSURANCE OR HIS WORK HAD TO PAY FOR THIS SINCE IT HAPPEND AT WORK, AND THEY DIDN'T CARE. I PUT IT OFF FOR ABOUT A MONTH THEN I CALLED THE INSURANCE COMPANY WHICH TOLD ME THAT THEY DIDN'T HAVE ANYTHING ON IT BECAUSE IT WAS TO OLD. SO THEN I CALLED HIS WORK BECAUSE THE INJURY HAPPENED AT WORK AND HIS BOSS TOLD ME TO FAX HER THE BILL SO I DID. AFTER A FEW WEEK PASS BY HIS BOSS CALLS ME AND TELLS ME THAT NCO WONT TALK TO HER BECAUSE SHE IS NOT IN THE ACCOUNT. THAT SAME DAY THAT SHE CALLS ME I CALLED NCO AND INFORMED THEM THAT WE WERE TRYING TO TAKE CARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT THEY NEED TO SPEAK TO MY HUSBANS BOSS. SHE THEN INFORMED ME THAT HIS ACCOUNT WAS NOT AT NCO ANYMORE BUT AT A COMPANY CALLED PROFESSINAL RECOVERY SYSTEMS WHICH I THEN CALLED AND SPOKE TO A GENTLEMEN THAT SAID THAT THEY RECEIVED IT BUT SEND IT BACK TO NCO IN 6/28/04. WHILE PLAYING PHONE TAG I CALLED NCO BACK AND THEY KEPT TELLING ME THAT HIS ACCOUNT WAS NOT THEIR. THEN AFTER GETTING THROUGH TO HER SHE SPOKE TO A SUPERVISER AND SAID THAT THEY HAD TO LOOK FOR MY HUSBANDS ACCOUNT BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T SURE WERE IT WAS. SHE WAS GOING TO CALL ME BACK THAT SAME DAY OR THE NEXT DAY BUT DID NOT GET A CALL. I SPOKE TO THEM TODAY AND SHE SAID THAT HER SUPERVISER NEEDS TO CALL THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND SEE IF THEY GOT THE ACCOUNT BACK. SHE SAID TO CALL THEM BACK ON FRIDAY BUT I DON'T THINK THEY WILL HAVE ANY NEW INFORMATION ON THIS MATTER. DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY ADVANCE ON WHAT TO DO? SHOULD I LEAVE IT ALONE AND HOPE THEY DON'T FIND IT. AND DOES ANYONE KNOW HOW LONG A COLLECTION STAYS IN YOUR CREDIT UNTIL THEY CAN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT?

    Messed Up Credit Report

    7/20/2004

After a Hospital in Sherman, TX messed up the billing of a visit to BCBS, then repeatedly failed to resubmit the claim properly over 2 years, they submitted the bill to NCO Financial w/out any notice to me whatsoever.

3 years after the incident I receive a letter indicating I had to pay or NCO Financial would collect on the account. I called that day and shared what had been done w/ the hospital to clear this up.

They indicated that if I did not pay right away, it would affect my credit. I told them I was getting ready to purchase my first home and did not want the hospital's error to screw up my credit, so I paid the bill over the phone with my credit card. I then went back after the hosital (which still has not cleared up the mess.

I just went to get my home loan and NCO Financial showed up on my credit report as PAID. Sounds okay to me, but the VA loan I am trying to get must not show this on my credit report AT ALL.

I have called and hasseled NCO to get a letter faxed to me showing their error in permitting this to show on my report at all. They keep promising they will send it, but have not!

One house I wanted has been bought out from under me...what am I to do to fix this??

    These people SUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!

    7/9/2004

This is a copy of a letter I have sent to the BBB, FCC, FDCPA, the attorney general and anyone that will listen and do something about this half-a**ed gustapo company. It is amazing that companies like this can practice business in this manner. So unprofessional and oblivious to the laws.

I am writing a formal complaint against NCO ( a collection company collecting for capitol one) and I have just been embarrassed, ridiculed and harrassed by this company. The only information I was given was a phone number by capitol one to call them and resolve this matter (800) 226-2307.

I would like to see this company investigated to the fullest extent. I would like to be informed of any action taken for my own legal and
    criminal needs.

When I recieved the first it was a recording that I hung up on. Then I recieved a call immediately from a Ms. Thomas who would not provide the company information or phone numbers after I told her not to call again, she proceeded to call me a debtor and that she pays her bills and to bring my checkbook. I hung up on her and she called back 3 times to say
that I was a little girl and that I was a f**king loser and didn't pay my bills and said things like your mama. I expressed that she knew nothing about me and was out of line. She
continued during these calls to verbally abuse me. I proceeded to locate the phone number on just the name NCO that she provided and I called
the company back and the boy that picked up the phone wanted to help me before he gave me a supervisor and so I gave him the information and he asked if i was going to pay the bill and i said that was not what this phone call was about and he proceeded to antagonize me by repeating the question and not answering my request for a supervisor and he started verbally abusing me as well saying my IQ was 10 and finally he
transferred me and I got someone named mike who said he was a supervisor and asked what the problem was and he began giving me a hard time about the debt and badgering me asking me over and over why i don't pay my bills and not listening to the complaint and then after about five minutes he said that he was in the legal department and the call was being recorded which is a violation of my rights not being told of the recording at the beginning of the conversation and him misrepresenting himself as
a supervisor instead of the legal department. Then a third person got on the phone and I was still trying to explain what had originally
happened and the guy that got on the phone said he was a lawyer for the company and they both started calling me retarded and when I got upset and started to cry they were enjoying it and asking for me to cry them a river.

I hope this is taken very seriously and is investigated. Please notify me of any actions.
    Thank you

I cannot believe I had to start my day with this bullsh**t.

    NCO....need I say more...?

    6/29/2004 SC

This is a long entry so get your notebooks out; hope you can find some light of my situation and give me some advice. I am especially looking forward to MAD EYE'S response. Pay close attention:

Back in Sept of 2002, I opened a Bank of America Gold Card (first mistake)and was given the credit limit of $500.00. I was a college student (can you hear my violin?) and in November of 2002 I requsted an extension of my credit limitation on the card. Well, they granted it and by the end of Dec in 2002, my card lacked $10 of the maximum credit limit. I made payments of about $40/month which was about $10 of the minimum payment due each month. I was struggling. So, we have only subtracted about 20 bucks total from the principle balance by March of 2003. Well, in March I was running behind and I called Bank of "A Miricle" to make a payment arrangement (first time I had ever been late and had a good payment status with them up until then). Rep says "No problem Ms.Caroline, we won't charge you a late fee...I'll note your account..blah blah...late payment fee waived, etc, etc." So, the next statement comes out after I had made the payment. They did indeed charge me the late fee, which in concurrence causes my account to become "over the limit." So, then they proceed to charge me an over the limit fee of $30 because of the payment arrangement that was not honored. Well, I called the bank and told them of the rep and his extension and the agreement we had. Of course they don't denote any documentation in the notes section of my account activity and refuse to waive either one of the charges (keep in mind this was my first offense). Well, I went up the chain of command, if you will, and it was like a dog chasing his tail, never ending battle over $60.00 in fees. I finally got frustrated and went on strike. I didn't pay them anything until September of 2003. I was feeling guilty about the whole ordeal and realized that my account was delinquent and so I paid them $50.00 that month. They pissed me off again by calling me and insulting my payment. I told them that I was doing what I could and to please work with me. Let bi-gones be bi-gones of their mistake and that I was trying to amend both my credit and my account with them. *Also, note that after Dec. of 2002, no more charges were posted to the account by me. They teed me off and demanded more money per month than what I could budget. Well, in November of 2003, it was turned over to their legal offices of J.L. Hannah out of Atlanta, GA. My delinquent account had accured almost 100% of the charges. I charged $1,190 and my balance was $2,131.00. They were willing to go down to $1,800.00 to settle the acccount. I said I did not agree with that amount and that wouldn't budge. Prior to the settlement conversation with the legals, their attorney reps were trying to get ahold of me they called me cell phone. I played like I was my hypothetical "step-sister" (which does not exist) and to stop calling my cell phone using up my minutes. They persisted, and finally told me that when I talked to "my step-sister" (which was me....and I never gave them a cell # btw) to tell her that they have a warrant out on my arrest. Well, that scared me to pieces and after doing some research I found it to be Unconstitutional, seeing how this country was founded by individuals escaping debtors prisons in Europe. So, then, the disagreeable settlement never went anywhere. I hear nothing more from them.
Recently, in May of 2004, I am contacted by NCO Financial Systems. (God, I wish I knew then what I have learned in the past hour of entries on their company. Don't worry, I wasn't completely in the dark) So, they tried calling my father's residence and harassing him. He has recorded conversations of them calling as well as documentation of notices to them to not call..."Well, Mr. Ronnie, we have a right to call you, this is an attempt to collect a debt." And he tells them to jump in a lake, I don't live there and he is under no obligation to disclose my whereabouts. The last address they had on me was a college post office box. (I graduated in Poli Sci last year in '03) Well, hiding from these parasites was going well until they called dad's house one day and he left my cell # on the machine for my brother to get and NCO got it instead. (Don't worry, my "step-sister's first name was also Caroline but with a differnet ficional last name).
Okay, so I give them my phone number to my home when I contacted them to aleiviate some stress to my dad's blood pressure. They call me and want me to pay this debt. I of course tell them that I have every intention of paying my debt (and I did have the $ in an account) but that I did not concur with the amount for which they said I had to pay. In addition, I told them that I was not familiar with this agency and any confirmation/affiliation they had with Bank of America. So, I call BOA and they confirm that they are affiliated with this company.
I call them and tell them that we need to come to an agreement on a payment and that I knew they could write off a fat chunk and put it in their greedy overstuffed pockets. Accusations were thrown my way of how "I default on all my bills...as if they knew me." I told them that I wanted to pay the amount I owe (didn't say "due"). I was not intimidated by them and was rather amused at their frstration and unprofessional practices. The rep told me he was putting me down as refusal to pay and I told him that I did not refuse to pay but...and he interrupted me for the 6011 dozenth time and said "This call will be terminated and hung up." He followed up with terminator's motto: "I'll be back" approach.
Just out of curiousity, I puppeted him on his strings for a while and led him to the idea that I was about to pay. Upon request of my checking account number, I told him that I was not comfortable giving that info over the phone. He said he would fax me a form to complete for debit conformation. I retorted with the fact that I had no access to a fax machine. He was getting frustrated and all but cursed me.
I told him I wanted to dispute charges and he said on what grounds. I asked him if he could prove the charges posted to my account and he said it was confirmed with BOA. I said, alright, tell me the itemized charges of this account then. He said I was ridiculous. I said, well if you don't have those charges in front of you how can you conclude that my dispute is null and void? He hung up on me.
Today I called the liason department at BOA and requested that they recoup my account and gave them my info of the situation. They could not do it internally and one of their reps called NCO to have them send me a statement of my charges. She gave me the name and extension number of the supervisor who was to get my statement records to send to me. So, I call and it was the same M. Fer that was so rude to me before....yes, that Ahole located in NY. After talking to me for 2 minutes, he remembered me. That sorry S.O.B. Let's pause here for just a minute...
HERE IS WHERE THE PLOT THICKENS MAD EYE. About 2 weeks ago, I decide to try and obtain these records for myself. I call the automated line at BOA, enter in my SSN and am waiting to her the next prompt. Keep in mind that I only have this silly CC with BOA and that's it. The prompt asked me to press 1 for my CC and 2 for my checking account. I HAVE NO CHECKING ACCOUNT so I I pressed 2 to hear "my balance." "My" current interest checking account balance is $18,000 and some change. That's right 18 thousand. Automatically I am thinking of Enron and how BOA may be trying float funds on inactive accounts such as my own. I call the operator/cust service to get myself set up online to view my account "s" . So, I give her all MY PERSONAL INFO; ie, SSN, address, mother maiden name, last time I took a dump, etc. I get set up, I go online and low and behold Bank of America has screwed up. They linked my account with another person's account in Florida (I am in SC btw) and her name is spelled exactly like mine but one letter is different between the two names. I could have been devious and transferred funds but two wrongs don't make a right. So, I go to a branch manager at a regional bank of Amer here (super nice guy..he needs a raise)and report the incident. I didn't want any fraudulent charges against me. I had my dad contact an attorney on the matter to make this a class action law suit with FL girl and myself but was advised that she could get me for theft identity. Light bulb went off and I recalled that I was not falsifying any info of myself to obtain another's account. Furthermore, if I had access to her account via my SSN and other info, what's to say she had no access to my private identity info? Now, mind you I am the one that made the discovery and she probably had no clue of it either if she had never been online. Therefore, I would not want to prosecute a third party innocent. It is with the Bank of America Customer Solutions Dept under investigation as we speak. It is a completely seperate battle from NCO. However, I made the connection that it could indeed be a factor (or pawn if you will) in my current NCO situation.
Getting back to the S.O.B. at NCO, I called him today to inform him of my recent discovery. He would hardly give me a word in edgewise (are you surprised?) I told him that this was evident material to further apply to my dispute. He was trying to run circles around me, but I am too clever for his irrational remarks. He said that when he spoke with me initially 2 months ago, my dispute to the balance was irrelevant and of no relation to the current dispute that I was "trying" to propose. He called me a liar on record. I informed him that I was simply calling to confirm that he was going to retrieve my statement records to send to me so that I could dispute any fraudulent charges that "may have" been posted by the FL girl to my account. He said he "e-mailed my 'request'." And, honestly, if I ever get that statement from them, I will be shocked bc his intentions of getting them to me in the next "60-90 days" as he put it are slim to none with the track record for which I have witnessed by other entries made to this site.
Just to add another drop to the ocean of endless acts posted to this site by ya'll, let me further say, that I called back the 800 # to speak to the HR dept about the UNPROFESSIONALISM disiminated from the S.O.B. It was, in fact, after hours (EST) and the operator said she couldn't transfer me to the HR (she was lying and probably dating the S.O.B. supervisor on the side) but hold on she would get the supervisor. It was the S.O.B. and he hung up on me. I called back and said I wanted to speak with any other supervisor except Mr. S.O.B. Well, they said okay and put Mr. S.O.B. back on. He told me that "we do not play games Ms. Caroline" and that "as long as he was there he would see to it [off the record of course] that I never speak with HR on any behavior conducted on his behalf." I wish I had recorded that. Sigh. Almost over, I promise.
Q #1: What is the next step to this madness and can I play the other situation linked with this card to my advantage? If so, should I contact FL girl (my alleged "twin") about a law suit? (I don't know her from Adam)

Q#2: If I don't get a statement in 60-90 days, what to do?

Statement #1: We are pursueing the harassment of calling to my father's residence under 1692c, part b of the FDCPA. On top of that one.

Statement #2: If I knew more of the financial legalities of the accounting world, I would represent my self to avoid high lawyer fees! But thank God for ya'll!!

Statement #3: I do have documentation of the SOB's name (and he is the "top dog" if you will) and all phone conversation dates and times.

IF YOU HAVE READ THIS FAR, I AM SURE YOU ARE BURSTING WITH COMMENTS. COME ON ALL YOU GURUS, TEAR IT APART AND GIVE ME SOME LIGHT!
You never know, your suggestions to this situation may put me and NCO in the headlines of CNN in the upcoming months of corporate fraud.

HELP ME PLEASE!! (Especially you Mad Eye).

    Cordially yours:

    Caroline

I had a credit card bill with wells fargo bank about 7 years ago that went into collections for $700.00 . I paid this off or so I had thought and all of a sudden I have been getting bills from NCO financial that they have been trying to collect this for wells fargo and somehow is now almost up to $2500.00 due to them trying to add on penalty and interest!! It is now also on my credit report! How can they add that much on to a debt I paid off years ago??? What is the law's regarding the amount of time they have to collect on a debt that they have made no prior contact about? They also have been calling my work non-stop trying to get me to settle to payment arrangements and have been telling me they will garnish my wages if I dont do it. Can they do this?? Is there anyway to have them stop calling my work phone number? I am not allowed personal calls and don't want this to affect my job!! This company sucks!!

Worst Customer Service and Follow Up

    5/11/2004 Bend OR

NCO is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with. I understand the role of a collection company but they still need representatives who are capable of providing quality service to the public. They are already screwing us with the credit bureaus...the least they can do is help us solve the problem. If anyone out there has a collection they are disputing...go straight to the company that filed the collection, not NCO. I sent numerous dispute letters and made hundreds of calls and nothing was accomplished until I contacted the reporting business. Save your time and don't let NCO handle. They will never return a call or respond from a letter. That company should be bombed!

NCo and there Threats to me

    4/22/2004 Ozark AL

This is a Letter i sent NCO i am TIRED of there harrasement.

I have been contacted by Brad Scott. Who is a represenative of NCO finicial Services. Mr Scott repeatedly cursed me as if i were a dog and made numerous threats to me if i did not make payments on my account. The filings on my credit report shows NCO as the filer for doctor bills in which NCO is NOT the debtor but only a bill collecting company. i personally will be contacting the debtors personally and working something out with them NOT NCO. I am requesting that NCO remove any and ALL credit marks it has scored against my credit. I have also contacted a lawyer in refference to the FDCPA which has been violated . As of April 21 2004 NCO is requested to stop all incoming phone calls to ***-***-****( I placed my number to them in there email). If the calls do not CEASE and DESIST COLLECTION EFFORTS from your company there will be legal action taken. as a REMINDER i ask you take any and all debts showing i owe NCO off of my credit report as NCO is NOT the debtor.

    CHOSING TO INCUR A DEBT???????

    4/8/2004 OH

TO ANYONE OUT THERE READING THIS...

ALOT OF THE THING I AM READING ABOUT ON HERE ARE CREDIT CARD DEBTS. MY SITUATION IS DIFFERENT AND I COULD REALLY USE SOME INPUT OR FEEDBACK.LAST YEAR IN JANUARY MY HUBAND WAS LAID OFF FROM HIS JOB.AFTER 30 DAYS THE INSURANCE HE HAD WAS CANCELLED. WITH MY PAY AND HIS UNEMPLOYMENT WE WERE ABLE TO MAKE END MEET AND STIL MAKE MINIMUM PAYMENT ON OUR CREDIT CARD DEBT.IN MARCH MY HUSBAND WHO WAS 40 YEARS OLD HAD A MASSIVE HEART ATTACK...IN APRIL IT WAS DECIDED THAT HE NEEDED A PACEMAKER.FOR ME THIS WAS A NO BRAINER... HE HAD TO GET THE PACEMAKER OR DIE!WELL NEEDLESS TO SAY I INCURRED ABOUT $175,000 IN HOSPITAL BILLS.
MY HUSBAND IS NOT ABLE TO RETURN TO WORK BECAUSE OF HIS CONDITION SO I AM THE SOLE SUPPORTER OF THE FAMILY.NOW I WORKED W/ THE HOSPITAL TO HAVE THE DEBT PARTIALLY WRITTEN OFF. THEN IN DECEMBER I GET A CALL FORM LISA..AT N.C.O. I TRIED TO SET UP PAYMENT ARRANGEMENTS W/ HER AND WAS TOLD THEY WERE NOT SUFFICIENT.THIS HAS BEEN GOING ON FOR 3 OR 4 MONTHS, ME TRYING TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS ,THEM TELLING ME IT IS NOT ENOUGH.NOW I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THAT A PAYMENT OF $40.00 A MONTH FOR A DEBT OF THIS MAGNITUDE IS NOT A GREAT PAYMENT PLAN...BUT IF IT ALL YOU CAN GIVE AT THAT TIME AND IT IS REJECTED???? SO ONCE AGAIN TODAY I CALL THEM TO TRY TO MAKE ARRANGEMENTS AND AM TOLD BY LISA,AND HER SO-CALLED SUPERVISOR THAT THIS WAS A DEBT THAT I CHOSE TO INCUR. I COULD NOT BELIEVE THAT THESE PEOPLE HAD THE AUDACITY TO SAY I CHOSE FOR SOMEONE TO HAVE A HEART ATTACK,GET A PACEMAKER AND INCUR A DEBT.
FOR ALL YOR N.C.O. REPS OUT THERE THAT READ THIS SITE AND CALL US ALL DEADBEATS PLEASE....PLEASE...PLEASE TELL ME WHAT MANUAL OR SEMINAR YOU GET THIS KIND OF THINKING FROM. IF THIS IS THE KIND OF JOB AND TYPE OF ATTITUDE YOU HAVE TO FEEL FULFILLED THEN I REALLY HAVE TO HAVE COMPASSION FOR YOU BECAUSE YOU HAVE A VERY VERY LONELY
AND UNFULFILLING LIFE OUTSIDE OF WORK. YOU HAVE GIVEN YOURSELVES AN OVEREXAGGERATED SENSE OF SELF IMPORTANCE. A BUNCH OF NO-BODIES STRIVING TO BE SOME-BODIES. I AM AN EDUCATED 37 YEAR OLD WOMAN AND CAN NOT THINK OF 1 PERSON WHO WOULD CHOSE TO PUT THEMSELVES IN THIS POSITION,SO TO ANYONE OUT THERE THINKING OF CHOSING SOMETHING LIKE THIS I WOULD ADVISE AGAINST IT BECAUSE IF YOU DO HAVE TO DEAL W/ A COLLECTION AGENCY ON SOMETHING LIKE THIS THEIR LACK OF COMPASSION AND COOPERATION WILL NOT HELP TO GIVE YOU PEACE OF MIND!!!!!

I received a "canned" voicemail on my answering machine to return a call to a John Barkley at 1-800-709-8625. I called the #, was put on eternal hold and then "Chad" came on the line. I asked him what this was regarding because I knew no one named John Barkley. He replied "I'll tell you what this is in a moment". He then asked me to verify my social security number. I replied "No. I don't give that out to just anyone". He then became rude, snippy and finally informed me this as a collection agency and they were looking for a John Davis. There is no one by that name here. I turned around and called the number again, hoping to speak with a supervisor to complain, was connected to voice mail. Called again, getting a VERY rude female, who wouldn't give me her name, started yelling at me informing me "what did I care because they were looking for a man". She wouldn't let me get a word in edgewise and hung up on me.

A couple of months ago I was made aware of credit reporting bureaus and how much of your life that they control. Since I have always been able to buy what ever I wanted and had always been "told" I had excellent credit, it came as a shock to find out I had a midrange fico score. I have spent the last 2 months deleting 30 year old credit card accounts, etc. etc. and finally got it all cleaned up.
One account was deleted from all my credit bureau reports beauase it was a mistake. Then I got a letter in the mail that this credit card account had been sold to NCO financial systems. I beleive it was sold to them in 1999. I very mistakenly called them and tried to explain that it was a mistake and all they could say was "And when are you going to pay this" I said, I wasn't calling to pay, I was calling to let you know it was a mistake. He then said " Thank you for your new phone number" and he hung up on me.
I think that says it all. Now I am going to have to endure calls, and letters and then of course I have no doubt that they will report me again (this time in their name) to all the credit bureaus. I really hate these people.

Just a few hours ago, I ended one of the most ridiculous phone calls I've ever received. My husband and I received a letter from NCO Financial Systems 2 days ago regarding a debt supposedly owed to a medical imaging company. We both looked through our paid medical bills and could not find a bill, letter etc. from this particular company. And considering that we both pay our bills on time, this collections letter came out of the blue. I received a phone call from NCO this morning.
At first this woman did not identify herself, just asked to speak with my husband. As I was taking down her first name and number, I asked if she was calling from a business since she was giving me a 1-800 number. She didn't answer, but asked who I was. I told her I was his wife, and then she told me she was calling from NCO. I told her that we received their letter, that we had no record of ever owing a bill in that amount, or close to that amount, that I hadn't heard of this medical imaging company, and could she give me some more info. She told me the date of service, which didn't match one of my child's hospital stays, but was close from 2 years ago. I asked her if she could tell me what specifically the bill was for. She first told me X-ray, then ultrasound, then CAT Scan. Our child had none of those tests performed. I informed her of this, then she replied, "Oh, this is actually regarding..." Either she's a very confused young woman, or she wasn't willing to give me the correct information up front. And what was she doing with that type of personal medical info in the first place? Are they actually allowed access to medical records?
I then told her that my husband and I paid all of the medical bills we received from the hospital stay close to the date she was giving and also the last admittance, and that we have no outstanding bills we're aware of. I told her we never received a bill from this imaging company. (Duh, if we had we would have paid it) She then told me I must be mistaken, they sent out 3 bills, (over the last 2 years?), and upon not receiving payment turned it over to collections. I asked her if we could get a copy of the bill, she replied no. I asked if this was a legit bill, why our insurance wasn't billed. She said this particular company doesn't take insurance information. (What??) I asked for contact information for the imaging company, she said they would not wish to speak with me since I owe them money. I told her I was not willing to pay a bill for a service I don't remember occuring, from a company I've never heard of. She replied that we had 30 days to pay the bill in full or further action would be taken. I asked what action, and she replied, "Do you really wish to find out, or would you rather take care of your responsibility to pay this bill?" I then asked for her supervisor and she told me none were in the office, this was early Saturday morning after all, what was I thinking? Unbelievable! This phone call went on for another 10 minutes or so with me trying to find out how a bill (if we do in fact somehow owe this) could be sent to collections without us receiving notice that money was owed. The questions that this representative answered, were answered with sarcasm and disrespect. Other questions she just ignored altogether. I plan on finding out contact info for the original company to sort this out. I will not answer NCO's phone calls or letters. And I feel very sorry for anyone who has to talk with employees there. I don't understand how any company, even a collection agency like this one who's known for this type of behavior, can get away with treating people in such a manner. Those poor souls who actually owe them money for one reason or another, shouldn't have to pay anything until they get a representative on the phone who's trained, knows what they're doing, and acts in a professional manner. I bet they would never collect anything if that were the circumstance though...

rude, threatening and refused to give me the mailing address so I could pay my bill, said "you'll get it when the update of new address has been put on file" been a month still waiting.....wonders if the company that they collect for know they are refusing to take the money?

UPDATE: Thanks forthe address everyone and the account # tips..... payment made and complaints filed with the company they were collecting for :-)

    NCO Collection

    3/17/2004

I had a cancel fee that a phone company tried to get me with years ago. I sent them a letter and told them they didnt have contract saying that and they agreed but said they had the right to envoke a cancel fee.

They turned it over to other collection agencies over the years. All it took was a letter and explaination and they left me alone. NCO started on me and ignored a few phone requestes to stop calling.

One rep told me" I can asssure you the calls can and will continue until its paid" I sent them a fax attention to 2 employees names they gave me. They said that will take care of it. I found out they already reported it to my TRW 3 months before.

I just tried for a re-finance and my fico dropped 35 points due to NCO. I called and got an absolute dolt. He mocked me in a very flamingly prissy voice and said the burden was on me. I told him of the letter and he said all they got was a cease and desist and the names I gave him "dont work here and never did, your probably making it up"

They are by far the most unprofessional company. I have damages and already contacted an attorney to take it on contingency. I found a list on naca.com He said that I had a good case and he has got them many times and they are the worst.

Before any collection minions lambast me with the old pay your bills buddy line remember this; IT WAS AN ILLEGITIMATE DEBT. The rep fro NCO encouraged me to seek legal counsel, that is the best advice he gave. Thanks NCO for hiring angry, evil gender confused reps. He empowered me to sue your arses with his disrespect and brilliant legal advice.

See you in court NCO unless your smart and just mail a check to my Lawyer along with a letter to all the reporting agencies.

This is a great site and it provides a wonderful service. NCO not ALL the people you call are bad people. Some can think and have the resources to take you to task. I was wondering do they tape all of thier calls and loose the ones that they get subpoenas for, I bet they do.

NCO seems like a crime family the way they threaten you. I hope we can get a class action status soon with all the complaints.

collection of debt for bank of america

    3/4/2004 houston TX

i was very surprised at the poor quality of service by an employee named anthony while obtaining information about their reason for calling me and then hanging up when i answered. i was not hung up on once or twice but a total of 5 times. they were trying to contact my husband who has been out to sea and when they found out, hung up. anthony hung up on me when i specifically asked him what the company wanted. i am very surprised that a major bank such as bank of america would use suck a poor quality of debt collection.

    3/3/2004 Anytown NY

Please take a psychology class. If you reciprocate aggressive behavior you're going to get nothing but continued aggressive behavior in return. I can get anyone to give me anything I want because I know how to talk to people. Just some professional advice - I know you're taking this as insulting. I know you think I'm being condescending. You really just want to tell me off. I'm just trying to help you to HELP US. The anxiety caused by debt is bad enough, but when people don’t know that the frightening threats from NCO are empty/illegal, it just adds to the hopelessness of the situation; I know that’s the idea…to make them so miserable they pay just to get you off their back. However, I insist that you understand what I’m about to say; people are LESS inclined to pay the more hopeless their situation seems. You, the collector, become the personification of that hopelessness, and are the last person they’ll go to resolve anything.

    You be the judge

    3/2/2004 Horsham PA

Today,(3/2/4) after receiving their stupid Voicemail calls, I returned a call. I proceeded to tell Miss Jessica Banks that I just discussed this account with Verizon on Saturday. I was informed that NCO no longer had possession of this account. It had been transferred out to another collection company. I made payment arrangements directly with Verizon - the original creditor to send the outstanding amount with this months current charges. Account taken care of. NOT!!!
I informed Miss Jessica that I have made payment arrangements directly with my original creditor and that her collection services will no longer be needed. She proceeded to tell me that I don't have the ability to tell them to stop because their contract is not with me but with verizon. And that she wouldn't need to contact me if I weren't being lazy and not paying my bill. At that point I raised my voice and said "alright you need to stop. I am simply contacting you today to notify you that I have made arrangements with the original creditor and that I will not be doing any business with NCO. You need to cease and desist trying to collect this debt." She said until Verizon contacts them and removes my account from their possession, I can expect to hear from her every day at 4:30. Let me remind you, that just this past saturday, I was informed that NCO was no longer in possession of this account. I told her that I am requesting that she no longer contact me in attempts to collect this debt. She informed me that they weren't not a telemarketor, you can't just ask us to stop. I said I just did. I will be sending you a letter to that fact.
I contacted Verizon and informed them that I will not do business with NCO. If they choose to send my account to anywhere in the world that's fine but they will not receive payment from me through NCO. They said we already have info that you have made arrangements to pay this with the current charges. I agreed and stated that this was just a informal request to remove my account from NCO IMMEDIATELY. Honestly, if that ***** calls me tomorrow the **** will hit the fan.
I tried to discuss the rudeness with a supervisor at NCO only to be hung up on twice. The third call, I simply said I will not give you my name or #, I want to talk with a supervisor. He said we need that info. I replied if you want it maybe you should put me on hold and ask the lady next to you because she hung up on me twice. I want to speak to your supervisor. She got on the phone with the same level of rudeness. Don't they realize that if you demand... you get nowhere. Ask nicely and work with someone as a human being and maybe it will happen.

I filed a complaint with the FTC about this situation. I was informed by the supervisor that this doesn't scare them in the least... we have lawyers that address this situation every day. We will continue to attempt to collect this debt until otherwise notified by the company you defaulted with. (not that nicely) I told her that I had simply contacted them to inform them that the account was being paid directly to the original creditor. If someone from NCO contacts me tomorrow about this account, I will refer to it as harrassment. She said that don't scare me, Mrs. >>>>>>
    Any further advice?

    Give Them Their Own Medicine

    1/13/2004

These NCO guys are annoying as heck, they use these automatic calling machines and clog up your answering machines. I don't owe them any money but they still spam me every couple of days and they just won't stop.

If you are fed up with their annoying tactics and want to fight back, repeatly call up their 800 number and play back their own recordings. Each call you make costs them money, both in terms of phone bill and also their CSR's time.

They need to understand that the sword cuts both ways. Two can play at that game. If enough people do this, they will be forced to think twice before they spam people with their auto caller.

    Settle or Fight?

    1/13/2004 San Juan PR

This person called me at home, on 12/18/03 demanding payment that was due since March 2003. The first thing that I explained to him was that I thought that the payment was taken care of a long time ago, and that they had settlers sending letters because the bank that owned the cards had some serious trouble with the FDIC and all their accounts were closed. He briefly explained something about it, but then demanded that I settled the amount. Then I explained to him that I am currently unemployed and that someone takes care of all my bills. He insisted on charging this debt to another Credit Card. He was asking me about other accounts, stating that he was "pulling the info from my credit report", and I know he was because he was calling them by name. He said that "I have good credit but if I do not settle that account HE would damage it".
He asked me if I could send an OVERNIGHT payment. I said I'd try but that it was too much money. He wanted me to call him again before noon the next day with the tracking number information. The next day, he called around 2PM, and I was not home. He left a message and then called on Saturday morning, 7AM my time, asking me why I didn't call him. I told him that I was not home and that I did not have the money. He wanted to settle for 2 payments with a checking draft. I explained that my daughter would pay if he was able to give us another month. He declined. We had no other choice but to give him the account information with the checks because he was very rude and sounded very threatening. He sent us a letter to inform us that they would deposit that on X date and that we should make sure that there were enough funds to cover the check. I don't know if what happened later was God's way of helping us, or to make me check them out, because the checkbook was stolen and my daughter had to close the account. After reading all these reviews and realizing that I'm not alone, would it be a good thing to call them and advise them about the checking account incident? What if they start yelling and harassing me again?.

    Unprofessional Practices

    1/12/2004 Fort Collins CO

I first dealt with NCO a few years ago when they tried to collect on a debt I was already paying through my credit counseling service. One bill that I did not turn in for this service caught up with me recently and I found myself again dealing with these people. Since I am trying to rebuild my credit, I made a verbal agreement on the phone in November to a lower settlement and gave them 4 check numbers to withdraw to pay the debt off. I continued to get phone calls from these people with rude representatives telling me that the person I spoke with shouldn't have agreed to this settlement. I have also received more bills from them reflecting the original amount with no indication of the agreement reached. The last straw was when I received a phone call Saturday, January 10th at 7:21 a.m. MY TIME which is completely illegal. I found this website and filed a complaint at www.ftc.gov and also called my CCS counselor. He advised to write a cease and desist letter, so I have done that and am sending a copy to the original creditor as well. I hope I get some response. This company should be shut down in my opinion--especially after reading the numerous complaints posted on this website. Thanks to all of you who have written your opinions here for others to find!

    Who runs outfit?

    1/7/2004

I keep recieving letters saying I owe money to AT&T. Well they have my name and address, but the wrong Social Security Number. Infact I've never had AT&T nor does the number match mine. I wrote several letter of dispute thought it was taken care of. Well I get another letter today and called and the guy hung up on me and said I would have to pay it. These guys working there are about as sharp as a bowling ball. They have no idea on what is going on. I want to shut this place down. Where can I get in touch with the head guy or someone besides some thug they are paying $5 an hour to answer phones?

    Dispute Resolution

    12/31/2003

Who runs this place and why do creditors continue to put up with the incompetance.

    Here's the build up.

An auto accident in 2000 had put me in the hospital. The other driver's insurance company was responsible for all related medical bill. State Farm paid each medical bill forwarded to them.

I start receiving collection notices some point in 2001 for $215. A payment was mailed an cleared 5/01. Collection notices continue and correspondance seems to have no effect.

3/02 There is a collection added to my credit report. With cancelled check and bank statement in hand, I begin calling NCO to correct the record.

That brings us up to present.

    12/03 I place 6 calls to NCO at 800-541-2742.

Call #1 The operator disconnected the call after placing me on hold.

Call #2 Sherl answered and transferred me to cortney. Cortney says the account has been transferred to "ACLQ" and she had no info and could not help. I asserted that NCO processed payment and insisted on speaking with a supervisor. Placed on hold and disconnected

Call #3 The 3rd operator would only say that I needed to talk to "AQ". WOuldn't transfer me to a supervisor, give her name nor the number for "AQ" or "ACLQ".

Call #4 Monica answered and I immediatly insisted on speaking with a supervisor. I was instructed to hold. I did for nearly 20 min. Meanwhile I picked up my second line and placed call #5.

Call #5 Was transfereed to "Tanja's" voice mail where I left a message with complete details.

Call #6 The next day I spoke with Celest who transfered me to a supervisor, Tyra. Tyra gave me the same line about not having any access to any information regarding my account at NCO. However Tyra was able to give me a number to Attention LLC or "AQ" as 888-662-7547.

NOTE: The supervisors don't seem any better at their job than any of the other operators.

Called Attention LLC at 888-662-7547 the number seemed to be out of service. It would ring once or twice then change to busy.

Call #6 Yolanda answered and could only give the inoperable number to Attention LLC and could help no further.

Looking on the internet I found that Attention LLC has an office in Georgia and in Texas. Attention LLC is the same company as Sherman Acquisitions. Phone numbers for Georgia and Texas are 877-623-3097 and 877-370-8739 respectively.

Call #7 I called 877-370-8739 and Cleveland answered the phone. Cleveland had no access to the NCO accounts and had a colleague, Antonio Bacon, pick-up the phone. Antonio said that he would need to pull up the account at another location within the office and gave me the number of the location 888-517-7852x539.

Call #8 I called Antonio and explained that I had the cancelled check in hand as proof that the debt was settled. Antonio was the only person I spoke to that actually seemed that they cared about their job and was willing to help in the resolution. He also informed me that NCO had just transferred the account to Attention LLC in 10/03. Antonio instructed me to copy the front and back of the check and fax it to 770-432-9920. He also stated that he would handle the internal steps required to have a Zero Balance letter sent to me. He also said that it would be easy to retract the strike against my credit report.

I faxed the copy of the payment along with a thank-you note for his help. I will call to confirm receipt of the fax. Well see if Antonio and Attention LLC are any more helpful than NCO.

    To Show Objectivity

    12/18/2003

Everyone who reads my posts knows my position on this company's tactics. I hate them. Now, to secure my credibility, I have to write what I'm about to write. Most people who write compliments on this site get harassed because they seem prevaricated, and bogus. If you trust only one compliment on this site, trust mine, because I've devoted hours to trying to advise, cheer up, and console people that come to this site for help because of the horrid experiences they've had with NCO.

That being said, I'll get to the point.

I recently had a good experience with a rep from the Baltimore office of NCO. Before you accuse me of being a sell out - remember all my previous posts, and look for one's in the future.
He was very professional, courteous, and actually very interested in making sure my rights were not violated. He initially tried to direct the call towards a check by phone payment of the alleged debt. Even though he realized early on that I wasn't going to pay him that day, He didn't get nasty. When I was asking for contact info, and fax numbers so I could send a standard 'cease/desist communication at my place of employment', and a standard 'demand for validation' letters, he remained very cordial, almost empathetic. So, though it was a huge struggle for me to post this, I'm doing so to solidify my credibility with all who come here looking for answers and support. It also confirms what I've been saying all along - if you know your rights, and they know you know your rights, then can be a whole different experience. People reciprocate behavior. Control the call, and know your rights. I'm also going to have to say that this gentleman was the exception to the rule - out of the six people I've spoken to, one has lived up to a standard that would be deemed acceptable. So, for that one NCO rep that I handled himself in the manner required, I say good job. To the rest; talk to this guy before you call me - he'll make sure you know not to try anything silly; I will not hesitate to enrage you, demean your intelligence, and sue on account of you...again.

In closing, my views on NCO haven't changed; I still think they're horrible. I just wanted to acknowledge, albeit very begrudgingly, that there's one rep I can confirm as being professional. NCO still has poopy pants.

    Contacting NCO

    12/11/2003 Knoxville TN

Sitting home this evening the phone rings and I answer. Another automated call. I call back the number that was left. I cant understand what was being said as it was too fast and the mic apparently was too close then Finaly I could understand. I was asked my name and I gave my 1st name asn was asked the 2nd name which I refused to give as I had no Idea who I was talking to. I asked the Gentalman what was the nature of this company and he again asked my full name. I explained that I dont like to give that out untill I know who I am talking with. He asked me what I had to hide, Why Was I afraid. Trying to explain to him that it was not fear but caution he then said grow up, get a life stop hiding. I was a bit puzzled and even more so when he hung up. I felt compelled to call back and it was a repet of the 1st call. After Searching the web I found this site and now I know what kind of company they are. Why is it so hard to answer a simple question of what kind of company you are when asked? I would have gladly talked with you on what ever matter it was at hand. Perhaps next time when aske you might give a responce. What a horrid way to answer a telephone and to treat an account like this. Ill try again with hopes of perhaps a person with pride in thier work and some self esteem will answer the phone so that we can disscuss what ever the natter is at hand.

    Harrasing Phone Calls

    12/4/2003 Orlando FL

I have received numerous phone calls from NCO representatives over the past 5 years. I have told them repeatedly that the person they are looking for does not have my number and hasn't for 5 years. Today I received 4 phone calls on my answering machine to call a John Barclay. Who knows if he even exists! I called there to complain and was treated like dirt. 800-709-8625 I asked to speak with a supervisor on numerous occasions and was told I could not be transferred if I did not give them my name!!!

My number kept coming up on their caller ID so I called back with my number blocked. Two can play at their game. I called back several times unitl I obtained a supervisors voice mail. Wouldn't you know it.

I am on a mission!!!! This company has no right to continue to harass people who have good credit and do not deserve it.

    Phone Numbers

    12/4/2003 AK

I recently had a very bad experience with NCO, they would call me just to harrass me evidently because I would try and get an account number to pay the bill and they would rather yell at me. After I paid the debt, I asked for a letter to show that I paid, upon wich Dean Tippin (800)363-0956, a supposed supervisor started yelling at me, saying "It took you 5 years to pay this debt, we're not going to send you your letter for 5 years" After spending SIX HOURS!!! trying to talk to someone who wouldn't yell at me I gave up. This morning I am going to the attourny generals office to file a complaint as well as the ftc.
I have some numbers if anyone wants to call there dirtbags:
    800-209-2663
    800-206-2636
    877-363-0956

i called nco financial regarding a payment arrangement i had made with them for check drafting. i called to tell them that this couldn't be done and the girl that i got when i called(don't know her name, she wouldn't give it me) started yelling at me about how if i thought that they were going to take payments from me after telling them they couldn't draft the payment from my mom's account (she wasn't thrilled about that idea after i talked to her about) and that i needed to get all the money that i owed "them" and pay it because if i didn't they were going to garnish my wages and take me to court. i tried talking to her but she wouldn't let me talk so i hung up on her. i called back hoping to talk to someone else but got her so i hung up because i didn't want to talk to her. her "supervisor" called me back twice. the first time she told me i had better never hang up on any of her "people" again and then she hung up on me. she called again and before i could say anything, she started screaming at me that they weren't going to help me out and that i had better have all of the money that i owed "her" by the end of the month or she was going to have "her" attorney take me to court and i had better get myself an attorney because i didn't want to mess with "her". this company has a bunch of self righteous better than everyone else attitude people working for them. they don't want to help you they just want to scream at you and threaten you to try to get you scared so you will pay what they say you owe. i'll file bankruptcy before i give them one dime. if you have get a notice from this company you better get ready to be talked to like you are the scum of the earth because that's the way this company treats people.

Helped me pay back my creditors

    11/26/2003 plesentville WI

I noticed plenty of negative responses to this company, but I can honestly say they treated me very well. The guy I spoke to for the first time told me he would consider me a friend if I would pay the entire amount they said I owe.

When I stiffed my creditors I had no idea how mad they would get till "Justin" at NCO called me and spelled it out. I promptly cut a check and sent it to them. It was for the amount in question, plus interest, late fees, and other penalties. Sure enough, they called me back and thanked me for paying an amount I should have paid a long time ago.

"Justin" even exchanged phone # and took down my social security # and date of birth, just in case he loses my phone #. He told me I may be hearing from him again at a later date.

Thanks again for the great service.

    Harrassment

    11/5/2003 Dayton OH

This disreputable company has called my number 8 times since Nov.3. The person they are looking for is unknown to me and I have repeatedly told them my telephone number has been in my name for 15 years and Doris doesnt live here.
When I ask for a supervisor, they hang up. Today was the last straw, I asked for a supervisor 5 times, and was hung up on five times. On the sixth try, the loser answering the call shouted How many times are you f..... going to call?

Is this person for real? Also a question to NCO employees here

    10/28/2003 Baltimore MD

Just recently I received my first letter from a bill collector. The company was NCO Financial. The debt was for a PayPal account. Problem is, I've never used PayPal for anything. Got a lady on the phone who was unpleasant from the get go.

I asked her what she knew about the debt. Her response?

"I know you're gonna pay me $90 or I'm going to place this on your credit report and renew it every 7 years. "

Being a business owner who has had to collect debts in the past I know this was so far off of what she could do.

I asked her if she's trained in the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. Her response?

"When you're at my level things like that don't apply. I've been in this business a long time and do what I have to do. I've now located your bank account, would you like to resolve this or would you like me to clean you out?"

My question to the collectors here. How many of you actually resort to telling falsehoods like this? Be honest. I did some looking into NCO and found them to be the biggest as far as volume and the biggest target of lawsuits. Anyone here ever worked for them? If so were you told you could act this way?

    Thanks for any responses.

    Free At Last

    10/27/2003 Florida FL

I wonder why why NCO droppped me and returned the account to the original creditor? I guess my phone manner turned them off as well as the fact that I told them repeatedly to not call me at work - I guess I hung up too many times, any way - I am free at last from NCO. Hallaluja!!!

They called 2 times in one day

    10/22/2003 Riverside CA

Okay I received a call from NCO this morning at 11:14 am. Then, I received another call from them just a few minutes ago , at 12:53pm. I told the guy on the phone that they already called today, and told him the time. He replied, "Someone already called you today, and you are receiving another call from us, aren't you lucky" LUCKY!?!?!?!? I then told him that by state law, they are only allowed to call once a day. He then tried to tell me that the law changed, that only one person from the company can call once a day, but that I can get calls from other people. I told him since when did that law changed, he said he didn't know. I told him that the company can only call once a day, and told him he better check that out and hung up on him. This is the third time they have called more than once in one day. I know I can complain to the State Attorney General, and to the BBB, but what good is it really going to do?

    Got lucky???

    9/10/2003 kansas city KS

I have read most of these complaints. Although my dealing with them are both bad and good. I received a call from NCO about an insurance claim. And yes I owe it. The lady i talked to was nice and very easy to work with,*(Her name is Mrs. Holland for those that want somebody that may treat you like a human being!)
The only bad thing I can say about NCO is that they screwed up my checking account. Except that as soon as I noticed it I called and they were able to correct it. Plus they paid for any insuffient funds that they had caused! That alone is worth alot!!!
Hope you have good dealing with them. If not ask for MRS HOLLAND!!!!!!

They tell you what you want to hear.

    9/10/2003 Ontario

Hi. I have good credit. I pay my bills on time. But, now because of NCO, my credit report looks bad.

I had a cable bill in my name and moved away (4 years ago). My mom was paying the bill when I left but didn't change it over. She ended up not paying it and I received a phone call from NCO this May that said that I was now in collections. I knew that my mom had it in my name, but when I called the cable company, they said they needed her permission to change it over.

Anyways, I was told by a supposedly nice lady at NCO that I need to pay on it right away. I said that I would do what I have to do so I don't end up at the credit bureau with a bad record. She told me to post date cheques over a 4 months period. I did that. Then I called back before I made the final payment last week and asked them to check to make sure that before I make the payment that my name wasn't given to the credit bureau. It was. I argued and argued with the people at both the cable company and NCO about this. I said I had made arrangements to pay it through post-dated cheques and it was okay'ed that I wouldn't be penalized for this. They turned around and said that their policy is 30 days and it automatically goes to the bureau.

I decided to post here to warn other people. I had been warned from friends that they had stuff in collections and even though they said their names wouldn't be forwarded on to the bureau - the collections agencies did it anyway.

The debt was paid in full and I asked them to erase the record but they said they "cannot do that".

    Any advice?

    Illegal Harassment

    8/28/2003

First off, I am absolutely appalled at the responses on this site by NCO employees. I have never heard such rudeness, meanness, a lack of respect for anyone and name calling. You call yourselves professional? Second, I received a letter a few weeks ago about a so called "debt" from 7 years ago, which I fought for a long time because I do not owe it. My letter said I had 30 days to respond, yet within a week I got my first harassing phone call. I could not even get a word in, because the girl who called just yelled at me almost the entire time. I did manage to say I had only received this letter not even a week prior and had contacted an attorney because I do not owe this debt; they would be receiving a letter from him, but she just said that didn't matter and they had already reported me to the credit companies, they were coming after me, called me uncooperative and other names and continued on yelling until finally she hung up on me. I had never been treated so rudely and threatened in such a way in my life - let alone by a "professional." Then, I have had messages on my machine asking me to call a number, however not identifing themseves. I will usually not call a number unless I know where I am calling, but last night I did call back because I recognized the number from a letter I'd gotten. The girl answered and I began speaking. I again said, very calmly, I had contacted an attorney and was going to continue to fight this as long as I have to. She asked for the name and number of the attorney and I refused to give it to her, since I have not "officially" hired him yet. All of a sudden I was once again being yelled at, berated, called names, threatened with legal action and said I had better have an attorney because I was going to be prosecuted! I tried to speak and she yelled at me to let her finish. She continued to try to shame me, called me wrong and said what I had done was wrong (when I have done nothing wrong). I kept repeating that I was speaking calmly, in hope she would stop yelling at me and start behaving in a professional manner, but she would not let me speak until finally she yelled not to ever call her office again and hung up on me. I was shaking so hard I could barely stand anymore and was in tears because of my treatment. Several things she did violated section 806 of the FDCPA and I intend on following up on that. They have NO RIGHT to treat anyone in such a manner. I've read several massages here and this seems to be the way this company works and that is unacceptable. Not everyone who has a "debt" owes it or even if they do, gained it on purpose. This harassment is illegal and must stop.

    phone calls from NCO

    8/15/2003 Orlando FL

I like when they say they can 'settle' the account if you pay a ridiculous lump sum fee. If people can't pay the minimum, what kind of stupid
proposal is that, anyway? I talked briefly with some lady who wanted to be my 'representative'. Er, I don't think so, lady.

    Collection account

    8/14/2003 TX

I have read over things that are posted on this site about NCO Financial. I have to disagree with most of them. When one of my bills got turned over to them, they called and called and called and weren't nice, but thet weren't rude either. When I could manage, I called and told them I wanted to make payments. They were very helpful in setting up an affordable payment amount and said that I could increase it or decrease it as I go to keep it within my budget. I have had problems with other credit agencies in the past that are harassing and rude, but NCO wasn't one of them. Keep in mind, it is there job and they weren't the ones that made you owe money.

    NCO,LIARS,LIARS AGAIN

    8/14/2003 MI

I posted the NCO,LIARS early last week. I'm happy with the responses i got from code red and others. but as far as icepick goes dont want to waste my breath. But anyway, once again NCO tried to take the funds out of my checking account again unauthorized and my bank stopped the payment on it (again). I called NCO and told them that i didnt have the funds in the bank that each attempt would be denied. NCO is doing this after they told me they would stop all paperwork and delete any checking information that they had since the first attempt to try and get money out of my account on aug 1st was not a success. if anymore attempts are made unauthorized again to my account, i will get the list of names of people who i talked with from NCO and i will file a lawsuit against the persons. My lawyer says i can get each individual for fraud and get them for illegal embesslement of trying to take unauthorized funds from my checking account. NCO employees need to keep in mind that NCO doesnt pull their arms and make them say rude things to people and make them put transactions through, these employees are putting the risk in their own hands. NCO im sure wouldnt back up the employee because the employee would have no proof that NCO made them do the things they do. Just like NCO told me i had no proof that these things were being done to me. the reviews page from icepick was good enough proof for my lawyer that NCO does do rude things and illegal transactions and doesnt care what they end result may me.

    NCO, LIARS

    8/5/2003 MI

Got a call 2 weeks ago from NCO. They said they were trying to collect payment for my husbands creditcard.(Never rec'd any letter or call from creditcard company that we were being sent to collections. Our account was in good standings.) They never asked once what relationship i was to the cardholder and starting giving me a line of bull crap. They said our house, car and whatever assests were in husbands name would have a lean put on them if they didnt collect a payment by aug 1st. They never asked what i could afford and demanded this certain payment. I gave them a post dated check with the option that they told me i could call and cancel on July 31st if i didnt have the full amount that they requested. So i called and cancelled it and NCO confirmed that they cancelled the payment and would not put it through. Today, I goto walmart and i couldnt use my debit card. I called the bank when i got home and sure enough NCO put the payment through unauthorized. I called NCO and they said i was insane that they needed 72 hours notice to cancel the check. NCO told me my husband had 8 judgements toward the creditcard, and that if the payment wasnt made the total amount due would triple, plus interest fees, and that my husbands wages would be garnished to where he would only bring home $50 a week until the balance was paid.I called the creditcard company and told them NCO refused any type of payment that i could make and they said i had to go through NCO. ( so i guess the creditcard company doesnt want their money if NCO is refusing payments and handling their accounts.) anyway, NCO said they were taping my conversation when i spoke to them, but when i asked to talk to the supervisor to make a complaint all of a sudden they found no record that i was being taped. NCO provides fraudulant information to people they are trying to collect from. When I asked NCO how they were able to give me information on my husbands account without verifying who i am such as an address, phone or anything they said under the FDCPA of state laws they could talk to the cardholder or spouse of cardholder. (whose to say i was the spouse if they never asked?)NCO employees are liars, I have first and last names of people and their phone #'s with extensions of who i talked to at NCO. I documented all the lies they told me. All I wanted to do is make a payment i could afford and they told me no,lies, and the bad part is, that the 5 of the 6 people i talked to were supervisors. NCO may want to invest in what type of employees they are spending money on, seems to me like they are losing money not making it.

    Very hostile and rude

    7/17/2003 El Paso TX

I have had it! I am trying to deal with a collection agency called NCO Financial for a credit card debt that I have. It appears as if the credit card company has turned my account over to these guys. I didn't even know that NCO was handling my account until one day in late May I recieved a phone call from my mother, who lives in different city than I, saying that she had recieved a rather rude phone call from someone named Nick at NCO. I told her I had no idea as to what this was in regards to however, she gave me the phone number and I called. I was told that I had a debt and that it must be paid in full. They told me that they would not accept partial payments or any payment arrangements. I told them that I did not have the money. They told me that they were going to call my commanding officer (I am in the military). When I told him that I did not authorize him to call my workplace, he laughed at me and said he would find the number and call. Needless to say, my commanding officer never recieved a call. A few weeks had passed and then he called back, telling me that it was time to pay up. He said he could settle my account for $360. I was leery and told him that I was working with debt consolidation (I had just started the day before). He assured me it would be easier for me to just pay them via telephonic post dated check. I stupidly gave him my checking account number and he said that he could find the routing number himself and take care payment on the 1st of July. On the 31st of May, I spoke with my debt consolidation company and they advised me to stop payment on this electronic transfer and to notify NCO that I would be doing such, also letting them know that I was enrolling in debt consolidation and that the my credit counselor would be contacting them on the 1st of August. I left a voice mail message at NCO and then went to the bank and stopped everything. I thought everything was fine until yesterday. I recieved a call from NCO saying that the check had bounced and that I had until 7:00 to get them thier money or else they would seek legal action in my county for passing bad checks and breach of contract. Around 6:30 I recieved another call from a supposed "supervisor" at NCO who told me that I could pay $200 the following day and the remainder on the 1st of August. I told him I didn't think I could do it, but he told me to borrow from friends, put it on a credit card, ask parents, do whatever. He told me I had to get back to him today (July 17) by 3:00 P.M. or else. It is now 3:35 P.M. on said day and I have not been able to come up with the money. I know it's not alot, but I wasn't planning on this. What type of action can they take on me and what can I do to protect myself from these vultures. I wish to pay my debt, just not through NCO. I've had it up to here with these rude people constantly harrassing me.

    Debt

    7/15/2003 Tyler TX

I have been repeatedly harrassed by NCO Fincial Systems for a debt that does not exist. Last February I became blind to a rare condition and was seen on an emergency basis. For whatever reason, my insurance did not pay it immediately. The insurance has paid, and I have told NCO this and even proven it, but apparently this is not their priority. They are unbelievably rude, threatening, and may have crossed legal lines. I have not been successful in getting a supervisor on the line, though I have requested one. It is infuriating!!!

    Fishy

    7/14/2003 Torrance CA

I just spoke to the NCO Rep who is handling a collection from Sunrise Hospital in Las Vegas due to an insurance problem.
He did not give me his full name and told me it was his choice to give me a name or not and that he was protected by the law?
He also told me that I should not be wasting my time writing him a letter although I explained to him that by law I had to respond to him within 30 days of his. He said I should be spending my time dealing with my insurance better because he was going to call my dispute invalid. (Without even reading the letter)
I told him of his reputation on my3cents.com and he very frankly did not care. Shows that this company is run with no professionalism and integrity even when they collect debts.

    debt collection

    7/9/2003 san diego CA

I have a dispute with a cellular phone company. They are charging me what I believe is an unfair charge. I was subsequently referred by them to NCO. I received their letter and promptly wrote back that I am disputing these charges. I received another notice so I called them. The first person I spoke to was Anita at ext. 1093. I tried to explain why I was disputing these charges and she spoke over me, yelled and finally hung up on me when I asked to speak to her supervisor. I called back and requested to speak to her supervisor, Ryan, who was even more rude and condescending if that is humanly possible. He told me that I had to pay the bill or "I wouldn't be able to buy so much as a stick of gum" without contacting him. Please, if anyone knows of a better business program or some other way I can contact the proper channels to report this company for their incredible unprofessional behavior, please contact me at wdbbauman@aol.com and put NCO in subject line.

    Thanks
    Denise

    they lied to me

    7/3/2003 NY

I owed a debt to a credit card company which I was in the process of setting up payment through a debt consolidation program. I was contacted by a guy from NCO, Jason (although he did not identify the company at that time). He threatened legal action if I did not pay up. I said I didn't have the full amount and I was debt consolidating. He said the creditor did not participate in the program (which turned out to be a big lie). He tried to get me to borrow from relatives, sell something, or put it on a credit card (pay off a credit card by putting it on a credit card?). I was subsequently contacted by a woman named Christa who said I had to stop using the word "can't" as in "can't pay that much money." I told her I could not possibly work any more hours than I was already working and I still could not pay back the entire thing. She said they would make a settlement if I gave her 20%. She was very intimidating and aggressive. I ended up giving her four check numbers for amounts I could not afford which I really regret because it put me behind on the rest of my bills. After I was almost done paying those, someone called me and asked if had gotten some more funds, my tax return for instance. I refused to give more check numbers. Then a rude person named Frank (who said that he wouldn't eat or live any differently whether I paid my bill or not) threatened more legal action if I didn't pay. I said I was working with debt consolidation and that was that. I've been paying that way and I haven't heard from NCO since. They are the rudest and most aggressive collection company I've ever dealt with.

    Rude Crude Lying Losers

    5/7/2003 Philadelphia PA

I was contacted about a past due account. The representative contacts me on my job, after I voluntarily give her my home phone. I let her know I have NO PROBLEM paying off my debt IN FULL, but that I'd have to send a certified money order. She insists that I open a checking account to pay this said bill. I refuse, certainly a money order is just as acceptable as a check. I felt uncomfortable about reading my routing number off to a complete stranger.Who assures me she'd wait till the post date on the check an then in
return send verification of payment later. She also told me a bogus untruth, that thirty days after payment the credit due would be removed. I said certainly if this were true the millions in debt would pay and their tarnished records would be restored. I called the corporation back hoping to speak with the head supervisor I was disconnected first, then after calling again they connected me to the rude collection representative I decided I no longer cared to converse with. When I asked for an adress to send payment off to she refused and assumed that I wouldn't pay. I also requested a certified bill be sent to me. I have yet to receive that either, just repeated calls and threats to sue me. A week earlier when this all began she notified me that legal action was under way because I failed to pay by check or credit card. My questions are why is she still harassing me if their lawyers are sueing me,why did she continue to call me on my job when I told her to reach me at home and I'd comply later, and why is she calling my home repeatedly and disrespecting my parents as well as me? When does a compliant consumer become a person who refuses to pay when the only things asked for in advance are applicable? With all the scam artists around why can't I atleast be assured that the person harassing me is legit, their claims of a legal business are true and verifiable receipts are available? You tell me would you reveal important information about yourself over the confidence of a telephone? I'd hope no one would be that naive in this day in age.

    phone call from NCO financial

    4/10/2003 las vegas NV

i have received several calls for the person[s] who apparently used to have my phone number [over 1 yr ago now] concerning their debt. i called NCO several times this pm to inform them about the error in their records and was: 1] put on hold for 15 minutes/then disconnected without speaking to anyone; 2] put on hold [again] for over 25 minutes/never got a person; 3&4]hung up on twice by a ms webster because i requested a supervisor to address their absolute rudeness; 5]told they would remove my number [WITHOUT even giving them the number in question - i guess they're psychics] and 6] was refused any kind of prompt or courteous service. i spent over an hour trying to get this situation resolved. it would be easier to change my phone number but i figure i would just get some other deadbeats' old number & then start all over with the harassing phone calls again. this can't be right! doesn't anyone have jurisdiction over these very rude people? if i really owed them any money, i'd forget about it because 40 minutes is way too much time to spend on hold waiting for service from these ignorant people...

    disrespectful employees

    4/3/2003 Elkhorn

I have applied for social security disability and show get it within the next couple of months. The person that called me was extremely rude and disrespectful. I want to let you know about this call because my next call will be to the better business bureau. The person said I was not working when I aquired this debt and I said I was but am not now. She proceeded to call me a dirty lousey liar and nothing but a lowlife thief. I told her I was not going to lower myself to her level and hung up the phone. I am sorry that I am unable to pay my bill at this time but I do not deserve to spoke to like a piece of dirt. I expect an apology from your company or I will take furthur action.

    handling of collection error

    4/30/2002 OH

In Feb. I entered into a settlement agreement of NCO. The settlement was for a Sprint bill. The employee of NCO that i settled with was named Christina. We agreed on an amount and she told me that she would have to preapprove my check that I would be sending her as a payment to the settlement. Her supervisor got on the phone and I told him the check number, routing number and my account number. Then Christina got back on the phone and told me to send the check in by Feb. 18.(the check had to be post dated) So I thought everything was taken care of until I recieved my March bank statement and had a double posting for the check I sent NCO. I call my bank and they say that it was not their error but it was NCO's. So I call NCO to try and be reimbursed for the amount that the check was for. I talked to Ryan Nee(a so-called supervisor) of Sprint's department of NCO. I explained the situation to him about how NCO chased the pre-approved check and the actual physical check I sent to them. He told me that all I had to do was to obtain a copy of the checks from my bank and he could refund my money for one of the checks. I obtain the copy of the checks and fax them to him. A week later he calls me saying that it is an insufficent copy of the checks and that i have to get another copy. So I contact my bank and they tell me that all checks are kept on a microfilm and that was the best copy that I could get. Disappointed, I call Ryan Nee back to see what can be done. I explain to him that this was the best copy I can get and that shouldn't your accounting department have records that show two entries from me for the same amount. He aggreed but that wasn't good enough. He wanted a new copy. By this point i was very upset. He told me that Christina should of told me not to send in the check, that NCO would cash the pre-approved check. So now I have to pay for NCO's mistake. Ryan then fed me a line of crap that he was reading out of a company hand book. I told Ryan not to hide behind company policy but to help me resolve this error of NCO and return the money that is owed to me. Ryan then became very upset and began yelling and acting like a five year old child and told me "to talk to the CLICK"(as in the phone hanging up in my face.) This business professional had insulted me and didn't help me resolve my situation. Then immediately I call to talk to Ryan Nee's boss who is Richard Bowman. This guy was very nice and professional acting. I told him my stroy and about Ryan's antics earlier. He told we what to do to get my money that NCO owed me. What couldn't of Ryan offered me this simple solution? After all he is a "supervisor". Oh well, I applaud Mr. Bowman for his help. He basically told me sorry about Ryan but what can you expect. I feel that NCO (being a multi-million dollar comapany...as i was told) should perhaps reorganized their "company policy" and better structure their training and customer relations areas to better serve the customers(victoms) of NCO.

    Complaint Regarding Treatment of Customers

    3/22/2002 Horsham PA

I am writing to file an official complaint against two of the employees within your company -- Debbie and Mrs. Demarshy. I have been working with your company to straighten out a debt that does not belong to me. Today, I spoke with three individuals before I received any assistance. The first person I spoke with would only give me her first name -- Debbie. Debbie was very rude, offering little to no assistance. I asked her if I could speak with Mr. Kraus, who is the person I was told to send all of my correspondence to, and she told me that Mr. Kraus only dealt with faxes. Eventually, she allowed me to speak with a supervisor who identified herself as Mrs. Demarshy. Mrs. Demarshy was extremely rude. I explained the entire situation to her, and she replied with the following: 'honey, there is nothing that we can do for you. We are not talking to your insurance agent or anyone else. You need to get your papers in to us, and until you do, we don't have anything else to say to you.' I asked her if I could speak with Mr. Kraus, and she said, 'No you can't speak with Mr. Kraus. He is a very busy man and does not have time to talk to you.' I told her that the previous person I had spoken with said that Mr. Kraus was the person in charge of faxes, and she said, 'Yes, he is the person in charge of faxes, but he is also the company manager.' I realized that our conversation was going nowhere, because she refused to listen to me. I asked her if there was another manager there that I could speak with. She said, 'Honey, you can't speak with nobody but me. If you speak with the president of NCO or the president of Progressive, they'll tell you the same thing, so just drop it.' I asked her who the president of NCO was and she replied, 'Who's the president? You wanna know who the president is? You do your research and look it up! Now, I'm ending this call. Good bye!' Then, she hung up the phone. I called back again and spoke with Donna Talian, who was helpful in connecting me to Mr. Dawson. I spoke with Mr. Dawson, explained my situation, and he referred me to the correct person to resolve my issue. My issue is now in the process of being resolved through Progressive and could've easily been taken care of weeks ago, if I could've gotten proper assistance.

Not once did I raise my voice at any of your employees. I do not know if the calls are recorded, but if they are, I invite you to listen to the calls from today, 03/22/02. After Mrs. Demarshy hung up the phone while I was talking, I was furious. I was in the process of writing a letter to the District Attorney's office when I decided to write to you first. I do understand that your employees' jobs require them to collect debts, many times from people who are unwilling to pay them. I am not one of those people. However, even if I were a person who refused to pay a debt, I still would not deserve to be treated in the manner in which I was treated by your employees.

To help keep me as a potential future customer, I would like the following:

I would like to receive an apology from Mrs. Demarshy for her extreme rudeness. Had she only taken the time to listen to me and not been so rude, she would've realized that the debt they were attempting to collect from me was invalid.

At the very least I would like a response from your company regarding this incident. Thank you for your time.
