Bloomingdales Complaint - Discrimination against transgender people - clothing and jewelry

clothing and jewelry - Complaint
Review by RobertDoherty1231 on 2011-06-21
I am a soon-to-be transwomen who is using a name (Crystal) different from my legal name (Robert). When I placed an order online with Bloomingdales for clothing and jewelry, they refused to accept my order because the name I am using differs from the name on my credit card. I believe this is discrimination and urge people to reconsider shopping Bloomingdales.

Crystal (nee Robert) Doherty

What Bloomingdale's did is in no way discrimination - - it is common everyday credit card security.

For payment info the company needs your name as it appears on the card. For shipping info you can enter any name you want.

It's not discrimination. The ordering program at Bloomingdale's has no idea that you are transgendered. It's a matter of the names not matching up.

agree with the others. sorry. this is standard. If someone named Claire put her name as Julie on the order, it would do the same thing.

When you use them in person, do you sign your alias (that is what it is at this time) or your real name. Since you are heading there, legally change your name. There is no discrimination on their part at this time. Just doing their job protecting your card.

I go by my middle name. But when I place orders, sign receipts, sign a lease, buy a car, etc, I use my LEGAL name.

Once you change your name legally to Crystal, gr updated cards and you can use it all you want.

It's not discrimination. Since they can't see you thru the computer, how can they make any judgements?

Is it just me, or are the titles to the reviews frightenly huge?

Use your common sense.... what you presented at Bloomingdale's had ALL the appearance of a stolen card.
What did you reasonably expect them to do?

The store was only doing their job professionally by enforcing their policy. It's no different than a cashier asking to see some I.D. when purchasing cigarettes or alcohol. Nearly all fast food joints are now doing the same thing by verifying your I.D. matches that of your debit card. It's not discrimination, it's common sense and a good business practice.

Yaya, yes! The titles are now huge!.. haha

Good to know it's not just me. I thought my Blackberry was acting up again

This has nothing to do with being transgender or thinking of becoming transgender.

This is simply normal credit card security. As jktshff1 says above, just sign what is on the card, or that is what I would do.

little - I told the doctor this just today. He was checking the twins out, and asked with concern if both were fine. I told him the blackberry was acting up again.
