Enterprise Rent-A-Car Complaint - Enterprise alleges "damage"--smells like a scam - Rental car

Rental car - Complaint
Review by ding ding on 2011-08-25
MT. EPHRAIM, NEW JERSEY -- Enterprise is alleging "damage" and trying to make me pay over $1,000, allegedly based on an almost invisible alleged "indentation" above the driver side door. I was told that the rental was fully covered, and that I'd only have to pay about $5 a day (sales tax). I'm really angry, and I see now where many other consumers are having similar problems with Enterprise. Seem like maybe a class action consumer fraud case should be considered against Enterprise.

I usually do a quick walk around a car I rent. Also, usually take a few pics with my phone in case there are any questions when I return it.

I like Enterprise, though because of status primarily use Hertz. Enterprise (Jack Taylor) is one of those great American business stories. Its hard to determine but from what I glean you acknowledge the damage just not extent or cost of repair. Not having actuary data - but anecdotally my personal rule, I'd suggest the following for car rentals. If you can't afford to pay for any damage and are a very occasional renter - buy full coverage. If you rent a lot and can afford to, self insure - in other words don't buy their insurance and take your chances.
Not being a lawyer I'm curious as to what legal basis for a class action suit exists and if the OP would initiate it.

We are listening. I would like to look into this claim further. Please email care[at]enterprise.com with your contact information (including phone number), rental agreement number, damage claim number, the names of any employees you spoke to regarding the claim, and any further details. Please use "Incident 110825-001486" as the subject of the email so we can tie your email to your case file. (Rich)

I agree with jktshff1. I always suggest taking a walk around the car with rental agent present. Document, with a high enough resolution phone, every part of the car. It sounds tedious, but can save a lot of hassle after the fact.
