car wont start bcm keeps going out - Complaint
Review by darinmatherly on 2011-08-30
I just bought a 2000 Impala on 8/5/2011 the check engine light came on code said cam sencer had that replaced at 155$. Then next day raido locked next day car won't start. Paid for tow to shop $215.00 to find that bcm is bad $735.00 to fix. I looked on net many other people have had this same problem and it keeps happing over and over again. This needs to be a recall GM needs to man up and find a perment fix this car is as bad if not worst then a lemon.

They are not going to recall a 12 year old car. I think I'd be suspicious moreover of whoever sold you this car. That's a lot to go wrong within days and I'm guessing that check engine light and sensor was a pre-existing condition that was disguised by constantly resetting the warning light.

I agree with Slimjim. Did you have the car inspected before you purchased it?

If a problem is serious enough and warrants attention they certainly will recall a vehicle 12 years old, or more. Not too long ago Ford recalled some F-150's made from as far back as 1997.

In this case will they issue a recall? Probably not.

It's easy to find people with similar problems on the net on pretty much any make or model. Roughly 200,000 Impalas were sold in 2000. So finding even 200-300 complaints online is really a small %, although it seems like a lot.

The OP should watch People's Court or Judge Judy more often. Used car sales are usually AS IS, and the judges always tell a person who sues over a used car sale that they should have had a mechanic check the vehicle over before buying it. Spending a hundred bucks or so is really pretty cheap insurance. If the car lot doesn't want to allow you to have the car examined by an outside mechanic, take yourself off their lot and look for a car elsewhere. I was idiot enough to fall in love with a car once, and the salesman's claim that I couldn't drive the car due to insurance rules I swallowed hook, line and sinker. Within three weeks, my dream car self-destructed, and the dealer was a prize horse's patoot. Expensive lesson learned the hard way.
