I took my car to the Jiffy Lube in Gaithersburg Maryland in December of 2004. Soon after this visit, I noticed my car was losing a lot of oil (I check it regularly but it's a 3 year-old car). I had Jiffy Lube top it off on a couple of occasions, but they insisted Volkswagons just "burned oil" and that there was nothing wrong.

In March of 2005 (My next oil change) I went ot the Jiffy Lube in Burtonsville, MD while en-route to Baltimore. They went to change my oil and informed me that the last people who changed my oil had stripped the oil plug.

I had to call back the original shop and I requested at this time to have my car fixed by a Volkswagon dealer and paid for by Jiffy Lube (since they damaged the car). Each shop tried to blame the other for what had happened, even though they were both corporately owned Jiffy Lubes. They went around and around for days and it cost me $200 to have the oil-plug replaced.

It took more than two months to get my money back and this was only after calling the CEO's office at Jiffy Lube. What a headache! I will never let those grease-monkeys touch my car again.

A South Jersey employer of mine used Jiffy Lube to service his fleet of mechanical service vans for a while, a move that almost got me stranded up in New York, one evening, in a bad neighborhood, two hours from home. Jiffy Lube had left the filter under-tightened, and the gasket blew out when I started the vehicle after completing a service call at a supermarket. The loud clattering sound gave me reason to shut the engine off and investigate. To my chagrin,I found a huge puddle of oil, but fortunately was able to tighten the filter and replace the oil. You can imagine my predicament if the gasket had blown out on the G.W. bridge in the middle ... more >>
