AFLAC Complaint - AFLAC is INCOMPETENT!! - Short-Term Disability

Short-Term Disability - Complaint
Review by renee107733 on 2011-11-11
LORAIN, OHIO -- I have a short-term disability policy with AFLAC. I was told by a representative that they could not read the doctor's writing and as a result they "assumed" the primary diagnosis was seizures last year and according to policy it was "associated" with headaches and that diagnosis was "paid out." I asked him did he and his supervisor have M. D. behind their names and why my physicians were not contacted for clarification. Nobody even bothered to check the diagnostic codes! Totally incompetent! Because I said something, now they are requesting doctor records. They are so unethical and make decisions by the seat of their pants!! Maybe a class action is in order, huh?

When you say they are now requesting the records, it would seem to indicate they are reviewing the situation. I'd wait and see what the final determination is before taking any legal action.

Perhaps they just want the records to prove its an actual disability. It may be a pain to have to get it again but its always nice to keep a hold of things like that in situations like this.

Don't count on anything different happening just because they said they are requesting records. They kept denying my claim because they said they needed more information from my doctor about my hernia. After the doctor filled out forms twice for them, they denied it again for the same reason - not enough information. When i called, they finally admitted they wanted the doctor to explain how i got hurt, where i got hurt, and describe all kinds of details that the doctor would never know since he wasn't sitting in my kitchen when i tried to lift the refigerator. When i explained this to them, they said the would make an offical request for the records and just go my his notes... A denial claim arrived in the mail approx: a week later... no way they could have had time to receive the doctors notes. That's when i just decided to cancel - course they said i couldn't cancel until a certain month arrived... and even then they said they would be continuing to charge me for premeiums through out the year and i could do nothing about it.... Just start trying to cancel now... i had to go to a lawyers office and have them fax my cancellation on their letter head before they took me seriously.
