I purchased my lawn tractor from a John Deere dealer and I got my free hat. They were the same price as Lowe's so I bought there. I figured if I had a problem the dealer would take better care of me. After two mowing seasons no problems.

Here's what really pis*ed me off. I paid $2000 for this lawn tractor. Before making this purchase I shopped, did internet searches at numerous sites and they were all $2000. A few days ago I went to Lowe's and they still had left over tractors now selling for $1500. This is a $500 discount and they're still making money. This just shows what the huge profit margin is in these products. But all is not lost....I got my free hat!!!

Purchased it April 2010 from Star Lawnmower, an authorized J.D. Dealer located in Jamison, Pa. I do all of my own maintenance. Nobody told me that there are 7 grease fittings that have to be lubed every 25 hours. This is very time consuming. Why are they not lifetime self sealed like a car?

OK4now - They may not be making any profit on these at $1,500, or even taking a small loss. As a prior store owner, I sometimes sold summer things in winter at prices, at or below my costs, simply to move them out before the new summer merchandise came in.
