Lack of Service for Customers - No One Present to Help at 3 Branches Over 3 Business Days - Lack of Caring

Rating: 1/51

BEL AIR, MARYLAND -- My frail and aging father wanted to add my name to his account so I could help manage his financial affairs. I am visiting from across the country and will fly out in a few days. We visited 3 separate branches on early Friday afternoon, and got the exact same response at all 3: "All of our account managers are completely booked today, and cannot fit you in. Please make an appointment to talk to someone". A quick look around the bank shows all of the desks are empty at 2 of 3 branches. There is no one there. No one was "busy", they were not working. Only tellers were present.

I asked about the one account manager who was present at one branch (with a customer) and asked if we could see him when he finished. Response: "No, he is fully booked today". There were no other customer present in the bank (at about 2:30). I asked if anyone present on Saturday, or else to make an appointment for Monday. "No, they are not available till Tuesday (when I leave in early morning).

They all read from the same script which is basically lying to cover the fact that these "bankers" aren't working across 3 business days at 3 branches. I've never seen such utter disregard for customers at any bank. PNC Bank is TERRIBLE. This account will be transferred to another bank where they appreciate their customers and at least make some attempt to help them. DON'T DO BUSINESS WITH THEM!

Terrible HELOC Servicing

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- DO NOT open a HELOC with PNC. I took out a HELOC in late September 2016 in order to fund needed home repairs due to toxic mold issues in my house. Since opening the account, NEVER have I experienced such dysfunctional servicing of an account. In order of irritation:

  1. For some absolutely ridiculous reason, PNC has 2 separate departments that handle customer service for their HELOCs. One only handles issues and transactions made through the HELOC card, the other only issues and transactions made through the accompanying checks. Neither department can access the information the other has, and both have different hours. This leads to an exceptionally frustrating experience when attempting to resolve any issue that may involve the account as no one at the bank seems to have a global view of your account at any time.

  2. Unlike security checks with every other financial organization on the planet, if you call the customer service number on the back of the HELOC card you cannot speak with anyone in the HELOC card department unless you have your full account number with you. This number only appears on your checks and HELOC statements. You can provide your name, address, phone number, SSN, DOB, any and all information off the card itself to the representative, but if you don't have the full account number they will refuse to speak with you. If you are out and about and need an issue resolved quickly, unless you have the account number memorized you're utterly out of luck.

  3. While I appreciate the lengths to which banks go to extend fraud protection, the PNC HELOC division is ridiculous in regards to the frequency of how many times card swipes have been declined for even tiny amounts. I had a card transaction for around $30 declined while the very next day a check cleared for several thousand dollars against the account. The several occasions I have had to contact the HELOC card division to clear up issues such as this, I have regularly received misinformation, misdirection, and have had to call back multiple times to resolve issues I was told had been taken care of.

  4. While regular checking and savings accounts at PNC appear to exist in the modern day of online banking, the HELOC division seems to still be abiding its time in the late 90s or early 00s. Logging into your online account and accessing the HELOC area, you cannot access any HELOC statements online and cannot view check images that have cleared. The only way to get HELOC statements is by mail and check images by special request.

All in all, working with PNC after the HELOC was approved has been an abysmal experience. If you're considering PNC for this type of lending, just don't. I have worked in the financial services industry for some time, and am staggered by the sheer incompetence with which PNC services this account type. You would have an extraordinarily more pleasant experience whacking yourself in the head repeatedly with a 2x4.

PITTSBURGH -- I am a teacher and I get paid on the very last business day of the month... except for December, I get paid on December 15 and then I will not get a paycheck again until Jan. 31. I schedule payments linked with my own checking account that is not with PNC. I usually set them up a few days before the bill is due. This was a terrible December for me. It was the week right before Christmas and my precious grandmother had passed away. I accidentally selected Dec. 31, instead of Jan. 31. I called PNC to see if they could reject the payment and I was told no and to call back on Jan, 2. I called and after going through several people on the phone, I was told that I would receive a full refund check within 10 to 14 days.

I called on Jan. 16 and I spoke to a nice gentleman and I was informed that no check had even been written to me as a refund and they would write it first thing on Jan. 17 and that I would have to wait 10 to 14 business days before I should expect my refund check. I told him that it was not his fault, but that I really need to buy groceries for my family, gas for my car, and pay a few bills. This payment caused me to be overdrawn with my bank... so now I have negative funds to live on from Jan. 2 until maybe 10 to 14 days from Jan. 16. The worst customer service ever. I bet the lady that told me that I would receive a refund check is able to buy gas and groceries and whatever else. I cannot wait to transfer my car loan to a different bank!!!

Never, Ever, Do Business With PNC Bank!

PITTSBURGH, PENNSYLVANIA -- NEVER, EVER deal with PNC Bank, the bank that had the lien to a vehicle I purchased. I've never dealt with a company with so many incompetent people. I literally paid 3x for this car. We mailed payoff day I bought the car, they lost it and then sent it back to Chase for reasons unknown. Had to wait and wait for them to "attempt" to find it. Finally we got the above answer so we called to do AHS transfer, got them to read all info back yet never took funds. AGAIN, had to wait and wait for it to show they didn't actually do the transfer.

Finally did it again and went thru, promised to overnight the title as soon as it went through, yet took them over a week to actually mail the title. That's just the beginning of everything they messed up. Took me 46 freaking days to get the title so I could register AND actually drive the car I paid for! I also was forced to pay a late fee due to them taking so long to get everything taken care of. NEVER, EVER, DO BUSINESS WITH PNC BANK!!!

Terrible Mistake

Rating: 1/51

PITTSBURG, PENNSYLVANIA -- I had read a few concerning reviews but because of the highest available interest decided to go for it anyway. Terrible mistake. The approval of the account went smoothly but then the ongoing frustration continued to mount. Even though the account was approved, I couldn't transfer any money into the account for 5 business days. Now understand, I was trying to put the money in, not take it out. Once I was able to transfer money in, it had to be done in $75k increments per day. The maximum amount that can be deposited in 30 days is $250k. I wanted to deposit $375k.

As you can see PNC seems to be doing everything possible to keep me from doing business with them. By the way, I talked with several people with the bank, going all the way to management, and there was no willingness to allow me to move forward in depositing my $375k in their bank. So if you decide to go with them anyway, make sure you stay under the $75k amount and don't think PNC will make it easy.

Just so you'll know, I was able to move my money into another bank just the way I wanted to do it without any of the above problems. Yes, it was a slightly lower interest rate but if there was this much trouble depositing the money in PNC, I can't imagine what other issues could have arose in trying to get my money out.

Worst Customer Service

Worst service! I used the PNC App and tried to pay my credit card. The App had a feature of “Pay my Bills”. I transferred the money and it took five days to send it. Then the PNC customer representative promised me that he would help me remove the late fee. Today when I checked my account. The late fee was not refunded. I called them. The representative named Austin (in the acceleration support team) told me he could not help and later hung up my phone call. Since PNC could not help, why did they say they would previously? I was shocked by Austin's attitude because never had I met such a rude customer support!

Home Equity Loan

MENTOR, OHIO -- My home equity loan is so screwed up that my balance is close to $2,000 dollars higher than it should be. My payments are not applied to my account. For close to 3 months they have screwed with my account applying misapplication reversals. They are over charging my interest because my account balance is higher than it should be. I have talked with at least 4 people about the problem and none of them are doing anything to fix the problem. All I get is a sob story on how they are working on the problem but nothing gets done. If fact since they started looking at the problem it has only got worse.

Bank With Another Company

I have been with PNC for 14 years and recently have experienced the worst customer service in my life. The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I had a dispute with the car loan services for an extension on my account which took them a month to decline or grant then they said the extension couldn't be approved because my account was past due. Like duh it took you a month in order to look into the extension. On top of that they went into my account and took out multiple payments.

One person is saying one thing and another is saying the next. A manager gave me her number stating she was going to call me and I never received a call and when I attempted to call on several occasions her voicemail said she wouldn't return into the office for another 2 weeks. At this point I'm taking my finances somewhere else and would hope everyone else does the same. This is why they have 3 star rating. Customer service is terrible!

PNC Customers have the right to this information
StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarEmpty StarBy -

OREGON -- Information that is valuable to have if you are a PNC customer who will EVER need to speak with an agent for assistance:

  1. PNC outsources their customer service calls to an outside company. PNC places high emphasis on low call time. PNC has one other aspect they emphasize: They, PNC, is the customer and agents are inculcated with that fact.  PNC places virtually NO value on agents providing effective assistance to their banking customers. This fact is frequently told to agents on a daily basis.  High Priority - extremely low average call time.  Low Priority - providing assource stance to PNC's banking customers.

2.  As of today, 09/26/17, the agent answering your call is allowed an average of 333 seconds to assist you.  Start to finish that is between 5 1/2 and 6 minutes.  Period.  Agents who consistently take any more time are summarily fired no matter how long they have worked for the contract company, and no matter how good of a job they might be doing to help PNC customers.

I know this first hand and I believe PNC's banking customers have the right to know what value is placed on the customer calling for assistance.  This is stated with no rancor, emotion or judgment.  It is simply the facts of PNC's priorities for any agent who wants to keep their job.

I wish their customers the best of luck, it will be needed.

A Swindling, Con Artist, Scam Factory

By far the worst banking institution I have ever had to deal with in my life. I had an issue with a scamming company charging money from my account, which I then resolved and ended up getting a refund for the money after having to explain my situation over and over, and even then it felt like they did not even want to give me my money back.

After I have gotten my money back as a "provisional credit" I have since gotten a "provisional credit reversal" charge which conveniently charges the money I got paid back again out of my account when my balance is near zero so they can charge me extra overdraft fees. I then had to call and explain the situation to them and ended up getting the money back, but then the same amount for the "provisional credit" got charged again 5 more times over the course of 9 months.

With constant overdraft fees and having to argue with incompetent customer service representatives to simply get my money back every time something like this happens, even when I know I have enough available balance, I will never go to this swindling, con artist, scam factory they call a "bank" ever again.
