Mimi's Cafe - Bad Management

Food Unsatisfactory - Complaint

MONTGOMERY, ALABAMA -- My husband and I went out for a nice dinner to Mimi's, so we thought. After first being seated, I asked a manager about using a coupon for the 50% off and that I did not have my coupon. He asked if I could print it from my phone and I stated that I could. My husband ordered the seafood combo-sub sweet potatoes and a smoothie and I ordered a walnut salad-add chicken and an Arnold Palmer.

I asked the waitress over and over again to please make sure that there was no bacon on my salad, and she said that she would. Everything was fine until my husband received his strawberry smoothie with no garnishment and he asked the waitress about it and she stated that sometimes it does not come with it and that was the end of that.

I was so very disappointed when afterwards; I received my salad with bacon bits and did not know until I was eating it. I stopped eating bacon over 20 years ago and it repulses me to have it on my food, and that is why I repeatedly asked that it not be put in my salad!!!! I informed the waitress and she said that she understood and that she asked that it not be put in my salad and the cook that prepared it could not understand English well!!!! She stated that she stopped eating bacon herself over 6 years ago and that she would feel the same way! I lost my appetite, even though I was very hungry and asked that if they prepare another one that they fix it to go.

When I received my ticket, to my surprise, the salad was still being charged, no courtesy, and no consideration at all! The Waitress stated that she had already spoken with the Manager about the situation! I was very disappointed partly due to the fact that we dine there often. In the last month we spent over $600.00 at Mimi's, and from time to time, we also bring groups of our business partners there to eat as well.

To top our night off, after viewing my bill, I asked to speak with a manager and I spoke with the(Assistant Manager), which is not a people person, no customer service skills at all! I informed her of what happened and she asked did they replace the salad and she stated that the price of the salad would not be taken off and that if I did not receive the salad, then it would be taken off! The waitress had already asked another manager to assist in re-making the salad that I could not enjoy eating with my husband, so the salad had been bagged and bought to our table prior.

I do not think that I should have paid for something that was as disappointing as that and I feel that we were so very inconvenienced!! She politely took the salad away only to dispose of it!! I have a real problem with that and I am sure anyone else would have also!! I do not feel that I need to pay for something that I begged not to happen in the beginning because of an incompetent cook in the kitchen at Mimi's! I am not responsible for a cook that could not understand English. Someone should have made sure that he understood in some way, either by writing or by speaking in Spanish!

We also experienced the 2 times prior to this visit, when we spent over $350.00, and our ticket were incorrectly charged too much when using a coupon. We have eaten at many restaurants and have never had this type of treatment, from a manager!

Disappointed!! :(

If they replaced the salad that was incorrectly fixed so that you could take it home and eat it later then why should they not charge for it? I can understand you not wanting to pay for a salad you couldn't eat but you weren't being charged for that one, you were being charged for the replacement you did get. They corrected the mistake which is all that was required, why should they give you free food in addition?

You got 50% off your meal and you got your salad. They were nice enough to suggest you download the coupon. You chose to return the salad and have it removed from your bill. What you should choose to do is never return to that restaurant. Everybody will be happier.

Unless I read this wrong I think her complaint was that she got charged for BOTH salads. I think I would be upset too because she specifically ordered it WITHOUT bacon. If she didn't touch the first salad because of the bacon I don't think she should be charged either. However, I do think she should be charged for the salad to go

That's not how I read it, oldisgood! My interpretation was she expected to be comped the salad after the bacon showed up despite numerous requests to not have it. Then she ordered a replacement to go.

Generally speaking (I wasn't there), I could possibly see the manager comping a replacement that she ate there. The manager had to make a call on the "bacon revolts me so much I can't eat a salad now", and personally I think he made the right one!

Bacon is the candy bar of meat. If God created anything better, he kept it to himself.

A mistake was made on the salad, and it was promptly replaced with a correctly made one. I see no reason for a "freebie". Perhaps a slight discount for the trouble, but certainly not a free comp.
