BRIDGEWATER, NEW JERSEY -- These steaks were on sale this week for $7.99 per pound. However the tag on each steak listed the regular price of $10.99 per pound. When it rang up for the regular price at the register I questioned the price and the cashier did a price override of $7.99 per steak instead of what was marked on the package.

I had noticed that each steak was less than a pound so I went to the service desk for an adjustment. First they had to find the sales circular to confirm the sales price. then one customer service representative calculated the price of each steak using a personal phone calculator and the 2nd representative found that there was no easy way to refund the price adjustment. She finally ended up getting a store coupon for $3 and change from her own pocket to give me price adjustment.

I don't understand why they couldn't have made this process easier when sales prices are not reflected properly on their goods. I had suggested doing a return transaction and then buying it again for the proper price but the senior sales clerk said that she couldn't sell it to me again if it was flagged as returned.

This all took about 20 minutes with 2 customer service reps. So it was very inefficient use everyone's time. I will not be buying meat from Target again.

I had a similar thing happen to me Food Lion yesterday. I saw that they were had 12 packs of Coke on sale for 4/$11. So I picked up four 12 packs. Upon check out they did not ring up correctly, the cashier said that the sale was over. I said that the sale price tags were still out. He said if that's the case then I would indeed get the 4/$11 deal. So I went a retrieved the tag. And then he asked if I knew what 11 divided by 4 was. I'll admit that mental math isn't my strong suit so I pulled out my phone and did the calculation. And then we had to wait minute or two for a manager to do the override. No big deal IMHO. Nobody else was behind me in line, so we weren't holding up the line or anything. I ended up getting the deal, Though in my case I hadn't paid yet.And a price adjust after the fact wasn't necessary . In you situation, I think it may be that that particular scenario doesn't play out very often so there may not have been a hard and fast rule of how to deal with it. But at the end you got your price adjustment.
