OGDEN, UTAH -- We went into the Home Depot on Wall Ave in Ogden to look at prices for a vacuum that we planned getting at Walmart. However, we received a gift card Home Depot so went to look.

While there, we saw a different version that according to the box sticker, was on sale. We decided we would try that one instead and went to check out.

The price came up $199 not the $89 that it said on the box. So, the cashier looked over the sticker and called to the back. While on the phone she said it's the same brand and everything, the prices are just wrong person told her to honor the price so she called over the manager to override the price the manager came over and said that it's not right. They aren't going to do that price, someone put the wrong sticker on it. So I said we will just go get the one from Walmart, it's cheaper there. So she asked how much it was there and I told her $130. She said they will honor that for a price match. They wouldn't honor the price they put on something but jumped at the chance to keep me from Walmart. Yeah right, I'm going to Walmart and selling the gift card to someone else.

The issue can become the dishonesty of customers just as much as the possibility of a mistake by an employee. This isn't to say you were necessarily being dishonest, but it is factual that customers will try changing tags to get a better price. This seems to be the case here as the manager, upon close inspection, "said that it's not right. They aren't going to do that price, (sic) someone put the wrong sticker on it." The fact that he was willing to work with you on the price, even meeting Walmart without further calling or confirming their stock. Overall this seems pretty reasonable.

Also, I would have personally considered being able to use my gift card which couldn't be used at Walmart. Ultimately you would have spent more, therefore, going to the competitor.

at least home depot did offer to match the price from walmart. stickers can be moved around by customers for a joke.

This sounds odd indeed, for the simple reason that $89 is less than half the correct price. The question is, what did the large Home Depot price tag say where this was located? That is what I would expect to pay - not what the computer says and not what is on the box.
