WINCHESTER, VIRGINIA -- I purchased three identical exterior light fixtures for my residence. I hired a professional electrician to install the fixtures. My electrician told me one fixture was a used fixture which Lowe's sold to em as new!

Please stop doing business with them! they are crooks!

I would not "stop doing business with" Lowes because of your experience, as you suggest. I also do not believe that they are "crooks".

People return stuff all the time, as evidenced by the special "returns" desks that they have.

The problem is likely not that they intentionally sold a used item as new, but that someone failed to inspect the return or they did inspect it and felt that it was in good enough condition to be sold as new.

The reason I would not change my habits is I learned this about Big Box stores a long time ago - some customers will return used or defaced items, and stores don't always catch it. I take boxes apart right as I remove them from the shelf, unless they are taped. In some cases, a box is "retaped". The trick is deciding if it was a return or a case that items are inspected by someone routinely and retaped. Buyer beware comes in handy at Lowes, HD, WallsMart, Target etc.

Why did your electrician think it was used?
