Refusal to Provide Refund - Freelance business/work opportunities

On March 28, 2006, I signed up for a 7-day trial of the Freelance Work Exchange, a website that claims to provide freelance business/work opportunities. The website is: http://freelanceworkexchange.com and the cost of the trial is $2.95. Freelance Work Exchange made it perfectly clear that “There is no risk and you can cancel anytime” for a full refund.

Payment for services provided by Freelance Work Exchange is done through http://www.ccbill.com, a billing company.

After the 7-day period I canceled my subscription to Freelance Work Exchange but observed that $29.95 was still charged to my credit card for a full month’s subscription. When I contacted Freelance Work Exchange, I was referred to http://www.ccbill.com, who went on to inform me that I did not cancel on time (whatever this means) and which contradicts the Freelance Work Exchange promise that “There is no risk and you can cancel anytime” for a full refund. That is exactly what I have done. I canceled after my 7-day trail period was up, and do not require the services either of http://www.ccbill.com or Freelance Work Exchange. That I am now being coerced to pay for and subscribe to a service that I don’t want is fraudulent.

Though they are in partnership, Freelance Work Exchange and http://www.ccbill.com seem to have different rules about refunds. Although my subscription has been canceled and I cannot log into http://freelanceworkexchange.com, I am still being charged $29.95 for a month’s subscription. Steps should be taken to ensure that neither of these companies coerces people into paying for services that they don’t want.

You cancelled after the 7 days that is clear enough. If you didn't like the service why didn't you cancel before the 7 days were up? I am sure by the 5th day you would of known if you liked the service or not.

    I agree, Viper.

“There is no risk and you can cancel anytime” for a full refund.”

Was this meant for the 7-day trial period or forever? If for the 7-day period then I must agree with Viper.

In my experience, ccbill is borderline unscrupulous with their collections. If, for example, they're supposed to bill you "monthly," they'll decide that means every 30 days--so if you think you've got 31 before you cancel, you're outta luck. In other cases, they'll invoke some fine print and tell you they require, say, 24-hour advance notice before cancellation, so even if you met what you thought was their deadline, you might also be outta luck. All in all, I can't say I trust 'em.

Normally when one signs up for a trial period, an email is received indicating that the trial is up and stating that one now has to sign up or pay. This site does not do that and they do not respond to emails asking for a refund. -- The $2.95 "trial" offer is misleading. I joined for $2.95 and had just paid all my monthly bills (presently living month to month). What a big surprise to that my grocery money removed from my bank account. I was able to cancel the subscription via PayPal, but my emails have been ignored. I make my living as a paralegal and I usually check the small print. -- I just won't use a credit or debit card to deal w... more >>
