Juniper Bank Complaint - Late Fees on Credit Card - Juniper Bank - Master Card Late Fee

Master Card Late Fee - Complaint
Review by catnip123 on 2006-06-01
I, too, just got zapped with a late fee on my card. My due date was May 14th, a Sunday, they posted the payment on May 15th, added a $29 late fee plus a $5.24 finance charge. I had paid my bill in full!!! I tried talking with them and got NO WHERE. At one time I was taling with some woman in the Phillipines who talked over me and was rude. I closed the account. I cannot deal with such an institution. I had been a customer for a long time but always paid my balance off each month--I guess that might be the problem--they didn't make money on my end.

I would never deal with them again.

Read the terms and conditions. Perhaps your payment was posted on the "next business day". The terms and conditions will detail what happens to payments received on "weekends and holidays" or after a certain time (i.e. 3pm) on regular business day. Be aware, that it is possible (and it has happened) for a CC company to hold mail and post payments late in a revenue generating scheme. A quick way to garner (in your case)$34.24. Multiply that by 100,000 card holders...some serious incentive to "hold the mail". Glad you cut up Juniper. Now, go back to your wallet/purse and cut up the rest of the cobras in there. Good Luck!

'my3cents.com (tm) the consumer revolution' should be renamed to 'my3cents.com(tm) Stop complaining'. Has a nice ring to it.

Jay-Please re-read the post. The bill was DUE on Sunday. It was NOT paid on Sunday. It MAY have arrived on Friday after 3pm, Saturday, or Sunday. The poster may have mailed the payment two weeks prior. Another helpful suggestion...Check to see if your state has a "mailbox law". Some states hold that a payment is not late if it is postmarked before the due date. Beware, most CC contract language states that the laws of the state where the CC company does business will apply...you know, the same states that permit brothers and sisters to marry.

Why not pay the bill online on there website. As I have said before, with computers there is no excuse being late with payments.

Even if you pay the bill online it can still be late. My credit card bill was due on May 29 (Monday). I knew there was a holiday weekend so I paid it on May 26 (Friday). It did not post until May 30. I know now I should have paid it on Thursday. I did not get charged a late fee though.

Crazy-yoke speaks truthfully. If you read the very fine print with pay on-line service there's the same disclaimer..."payments may not be posted on the same day the payment is made". And, paying bills online is 100% safe! Unless your computer is host to Trojans, keyloggers, etc. In that case, "Crazy Mustafah" in Zimbabwe or the pimply faced hacker down the street gets to "borrow" your account.

I'm know that the payments won't post the same day, unless you want to spend more money on a fee. On my CC website they have a schedule, shows when you make your payment and when to expect it to post. If it doesn't post by a certain time to call this number. But then, I pay most all of my bills around the first of the month, whether they are due or not. Only a couple are set up on automatic bill pay. I have no choice, I only get a certain amount of money once a month.

Why don't the payments post the same day regardless of what day or time they are submitted. Seems nuts. Electrons don't take Communion or coffee breaks or knock off at five. You can use your card 24/7 and the authorization post immediately. It’s not like you have to swipe your card at the Olive Garden then come back after five the next business day to eat your spaghetti & meet balls. It just doesn’t make sense to me.

Stew-Lenin answers your question. "To look for why a policy is imposed, search for whom will benefit from it financially." Posting a payment upon receipt eliminates any ability to arbitrarily levy a late fee. CC issuers are venomous snakes...once you understand that, the rest makes sense.
