Can NCO obtain my credit report or my dads, without my dad ever giving his SS out? - Can NCO place a delinquincie on my credit report?

My dad had hosting through 1 & 1 Internet Inc a long time ago, and he closed the account, but they were still charging. He owed $29.97 and refuse to pay the bill, on the grounds that he closed the account.

My question now, is that his name and my name is alike, and I am afraid that my credit may be affected by this. My dad had never given them his social security. Can NCO obtain his social security or mine by mistake and affect both our credit reports?

"Can" they? Yes. "Will" they? Yes. "Should they" No! In fact, they may even start calling you for the debt and suggesting that either you pay it or that you apply pressure to Dad so they'll stop bothering you. Watch your bureau reports. If it shows up there, or they start calling you about Dad's debt. Send them WRITTEN correspondence pointing out their error and demand that they stop contacting you and remove the error from your bureau. If they do not, you have a "winable" civil action. Good question!

I agree with the Doc he gave you good advice to follow.

BTW: Any correspondence with collectors needs to go "certified, return receipt requested".

Dispute the charge through your back or cc.

You didn't say how NCO got in the picture...were one of you ever contacted by them? Are they on any of you or your Dad's credit report? You are showing a concernt that NCO may confuse you and put it on the wrong report, but are they even involved at this time?

When my dad signed up with 1 & 1 internet, he never gave them his social security or birthdate. However though, my name and his name are both the same. I am worried that NCO may accidently put a delinquincue on my credit bureau. The only way we were contacted by NCO, was that they mailed us a letter demanding payment. As of now, my dad does not have any delinquincie on his report, and he called 1&1, and they had told him that he does not owe anything.
