I am adding my 3 cents to the discussion about NCO Financial Systems, Inc. I also rec'd a letter from them telling me that "the creditor" has agreed to accept $36.11 in payment. The only reason I received this letter is that I had originally started to get into a business that was to distribute coffee to stores.

That is a long story but suffice it to say that the business was a scam & wanted money wired (cash) to an international bank account. When I backed out of the deal & didn not explain why, didn't want to waste my breath, I all of a sudden receive a bill from DSL for overniting me their introduction package. When I didn't pay it I rec'd this NCO Financial Systems collection notice. When I called the 800 # which is 800-303-2149 I got this voice that was speaking a language I couldn't even begin to understand. So I left a message stating that I have no clue what was just said but I will call back at another time. I do not intend to pay this & I hope people will not fall for this scam. That's my 3 cents. Thanks for listening

I think you meant DHL - if that is the case and you were the recipient, there is no way they can force you to pay for an unsolicited package and they should know it. Most likely, the original shipper is long since out of business and they have your name and number so they are going to try to get the money from you. Refer them to DHL's bills of lading that plainly state the shipper is always ultimately responsible for the bill. FWIW, keep that in mind if you ever find yourself shipping to someone and you have doubts about them paying the bill - you might find DHL, FedEx or UPS looking to you for payment.

Thanks so much Hugh for your reply to my comment...Yes, I did mean DHL, oops...As I said the company sending me the info. was a scam to begin with so that is why I have no intention of paying this. That coffee company will not get one cent of my money.

Send your dispute in writing, cerified with return receipt to NCO, explain what happened and they will not be able to attempt to collect or report the debt while it's in dispute. Was there anything with your original deal with the sender that you would be paying shipping? Because if there was, and you did get the info then you would be responsible for it, although it was a rip off. However if there was no agreement for you to pay the shipping, then there is nothing they can do to make you pay.
