On 10/24/06 I went to the DC home Depot to make a purchase. I needed help in the plumbing department, I ask an employee who was loading a basket with plumbing items if he worked in this department. I got the ugliest look from him, a 'don't bother me' look. I said to him "don't look so excited about it," he just ignored me and looked away.

I asked him for his name so I could complain about is attitude to the manager he said, "Go ahead"!

I went to the service desk to complain, I asked to speak to a manager, and one was called. After 10 or so minutes I asked where the manager was, the person behind the desk called again. At that time the so called manager Anthony called back, did not bother to come to the service desk just called and said, "What does the customer want". That is unacceptable management skills, it is just rude!

I said I wanted to speak to him in person. When he finally showed up another 6 minutes latter he looked at me and said “what is your problem".

I am tired of walking into that store and being treated as though I am intruding on their time and space. That is what they are getting paid for retail customer service.

If the job it to hard for these employees get another job! It is the customer’s money that goes pays the employees of this company. We need to start being treated better. The employees need to receive training on treating customers well!

Nothing happens in a vacuum - perhaps you had a bit of a chip on your shoulder when you went in there? Not excusing their behavior, but it almost seems like you were looking for a confrontation.

If you want old fashioned customer service, stay away from the big-box stores. True Value and mom and pop places still service the customer in a one on one manner - however, you'll pay a bit more for it.

I forgot to add Taylor's as a good customer service store.

I don't want Pirate's head to swell too much, so I have to say I agree with emt c's first comment!

Customer service is almost non-existent. Finding a person in any department is a miracle. After wandering around the store looking for someone, we are forced to walk all the way to the front desk and having to wait for them to call someone help. I purchased all the materials for a bathroom remodel and then waited at the loading area to get help loading it and waited and waited. After having the loading person paged over and over and a half hour later I went to the customer service desk and said I had a return, she said “where is it“. I said in the loading area, I can’t get anyone to show up and help load it. She never called for a man ... more >>

here's the deal, you pay someone minimum wage, you get minimum wage service.. what do you expect from some kid making $5.85/hr? I live in Canada where min. wage is $8.40. Rarely do I get bad service, even in big chain stores. I just got back from working in N.J. for 6 months and I couldn't believe how people treated me at any store. Glad to be home!!!

Sounds to me like you were trying to pick a fight. Maybe the associate was tired. Maybe by looking away he was trying to avoid a conforntation, but you kept it going. And the manager might have been assisting another customer with a complaint and was just calling to see if it was something that he could pass along to a supervisor or if he had to handle it himself.

And Windpro: Home Depot is one of the few stores that doesn't pay minimum wage to their associates. I know people who have worked for them all around the country and not a single one was making less than $9.00/hr.
