Home Depot Took My Money - Three Months Later, No Product In Sight! - LDF 6810BB

We are very concerned about the recent unscrupulous business practices that we have experienced at Home Depot. On April 15, 2007, we purchased a black LG 6810 dishwasher from the Home Depot store # 6367 in Orlando. Because the dishwasher was for a new home construction, we asked the salesperson to set the delivery date for July 13.

We called the store in mid June, to request that the delivery date be moved up, as we were now ready for the dishwasher.

We were first told that the dishwasher would be delivered on June 23. Then we got a call saying that it would be delivered on June 30. June 30 came and went, and no dishwasher was forthcoming. We called Home Depot again, and we were then told that it would be delivered on July 15. When we called to check on this, we were told that it was possible the dishwasher would be delivered in September, but that Home Depot really had no idea.

At this point, our house was completed and our final inspection was being delayed because of the non-arrival of our paid-for-in-April dishwasher. We finally went to another appliance store, and were told what Home Depot MUST have known: LG was no longer making this model of dishwasher. When we called the Home Depot store again, armed with this information, they admitted that this was indeed the case. Home Depot had taken our money back in April, and was trying to put us off until September (and probably then later and later and later) but had NO intention of delivering to us the dishwasher that we'd paid for.

This is the stuff scams are made of: one company taking a customer's money with no intention of ever delivering the product to the customer. That money could have been accruing interest for the past 3 months. Instead, Home Depot "borrowed" $685 from us, interest-free.

$685.00 interest at 5% for 3 months is only 8.85-one movie ticket. I would be more concern about them selling my dishwasher to someone else. Why did you buy for 3 months in advance? Next time don't go to a hardware store to buy a appliance. I don't know of any store that will store something for 3 months for free. Why did you not take delivery of dishwasher when you bought it? You could have a plumber installed it later.

The Interest you lost was a few cents .. With interest rates at 1% or less, why complain about the interest rate. I would be more concerned that HD was not honest with you.

While it may be true that the interest earned on $685.00 over a 3 month period would be a rather nominal amount, if Home Depot is pulling this same scam with thousands of other customers, then the interest THEY earn on those funds they collect and retain dishonestly could be considerable. Perhaps that is how they afford to pay their CEO those obscenely HUGE bonuses, even as stockholder dividends continue to go down. I stopped shopping at Home Depot when they tried to refuse to replace the Gerbera daisies I bought there that died in less than a month because they were annuals and not perrenials, even though the big sign over the door to their ... more >>

I suggest you contact your states attorney generals office for advice and also file a complaint with the FTC (Home Depot may be subject to their jurisdiction since they operate in multiple states). Your local media might also be curious about this.

i work at home depot. im an inventory manager. i order appliances as well as thousands of other items... it just so happens that when products such as dishwashers, bath tubs and plenty other types of products ive dealt with go out of production we usually go through a period of 30-90 days where we have no idea why the product isnt being sent to us and even when we call and ask the supplier they for some reason just say it is on backorder, or they say they aren't sure why it's not being sent out, or they blame it on our Transfer Facilities or buying office. We usually don't know that the product is out of production until enough store managers... more >>
