Interval International Complaint - Do Not Do Business With Interval International Time Share Company! - Time Share/Vacation

Time Share/Vacation - Complaint
Review by zoe1620 on 2007-09-05
My friend & I recently booked a trip through his time-share, Interval
International, to go to the Costa Maya Reef Resort in Belize, Central
America scheduled for 8/18-8/25/07. We booked this trip over the phone
& gave the company representative our credit card information for charging the trip. The night before we were scheduled to leave, we attempted to contact the resort to ensure they were still accepting guests. We had some concerns due to
hurricane dean. No one answered the phone. So we spent the next few hours tracking the storm online & at that point it didn't appear that it would affect Belize at all. So on Saturday morning, we boarded a US Airways flight bound for Belize. We arrived at Belize Int'l Airport at approx. 10am. We then boarded a Tropic Air plane for another 15-minute flight to San Pedro.

Once we arrived at Fido's dock in San Pedro to board a ferry to take us to the resort, we were told by the ferrymaster that Costa Maya Reef resort was closed in anticipation of the hurricane. He gave us the resort owner's name & cell phone number.

I spoke to the owner personally & he informed me that he had contacted Interval International 2 days prior (which would have been Thursday) to let them know they would be closing that Friday because of the hurricane. Interval had our phone number and e-mail address and no one EVER attempted to contact us.

We then had to make other last minute arrangements to stay at another resort on the mainland, which ended up costing us thousands more than we had expected to spend. Because Interval International did not inform us of the situation, both of our lives were put at risk & we are out thousands of dollars because we
had to make other arrangements.

When we returned home, we contacted Interval International numerous times in an attempt to get our money back. Each time, we were told they would not refund a dime. The last representative I spoke with, "Enrique", did admit that the resort contacted them to let them know of the closing in advance, but that it was OUR responsibility to contact THEM to get information in the event of a natural disaster. My impression of this company, and their specific handling (or lack
thereof) of my situation left much to be desired. I find their practices & actions to be unprofessional, irresponsible, criminal & incompetent.

BEWARE!!

Well Interval never had to pay the resort since it was closed so they have 100% of the money right? Start making big stinks at the top, the CSR's read from scripts and will do zero to help you get your money back.

There is a huge hurricane heading towards Central America and you go there on a vacation? Maybe next time there is a flooded river, I'll go hike up it. Have some common sense, dude!

Ponoma Guy- First off, I'm not a dude. I'm a female. Second, we arrived in Belize 3 days before the storm hit. Before we left all weather forecasts were prediciting the hurricane to head due north from Jamaica & not even touch Belize. We took our chances.
So this means that the time share company has the right to keep our money, for services not provided??

II has absolutely no right to that money. If the resort is closed, then they need to reimburse II, who in turn refunds you. A resorts decision to close is prudent when faced with risk to their guests. It also comes at their financial loss. You should check carefully the terms of service you agreed to and see if you have any legal recourse. You may also have a chance to dispute the payment if you paid via credit card.

zoe1620 - I'd file a complaint with your state's AG. Despite what slim googled up I would think if II is so staunch in not refunding your money then they are probably hiding behind a clause somewhere that you knowingly or unknowingly agreed to which IMHO is total horse sh*t. Also, slim's google has a good point -'dispute the payment if you paid via credit card'.

zoe, I wish all the best and keep the pressure on these punks. I voted your contribution 'Very Helpful'.

zoe1620, I would say go with Slims advice because I can say for sure he didn't "google" up any of what he said and also he is a member in good standing. A family man that takes time out of his busy schedule to spend with his kid and has no reason to say what he said other then to help people.

By contrast you will notice Stew is always telling people he voted them "very Helpful" in order to get you to put him on you trust list and also that maybe you will vote his ridicules comment helpful. It should also be noted that he advocates the over use (abuse) of zanx and alcohol.

Good review by the way….

Excuse me Liddy, but you have something brown on your nose.

Maybe or maybe it's the truth?
Either way I would rather have brown on my nose then shyt of brains.

Lidman -- I researched II. I read their terms and conditions. My statement is correct and accurate. You on the other hand pulling things out of your rear again without knowledge, without foresight, without reasoning and without the slightest idea of what you're talking about. (B)asher pegged you right. You're like a beaten broken down old mutt so desperate for attention you'll hump the first leg that doesn't kick you in the rear. (SN)

Why don't you show us that "google" of research then stew? I'm sure you have time to go find it again since clearly nothing outside of this site is going on in your life.

Gee Stew, at least I only have one nic and I don't beg for votes and I am not the one who drinks like a fish and is always on drugs like you. I don’t post lie and say it is some one else, “E11” and I don’t follow anyone around like you and PiratewillPuffer for a quarter.

When I say something nice about people its because I mean it and most of all I’m not a FAT BOY!

If people don’t like me because I say what I mean, so be it. You on the other hand play silly little games and when confronted cry like a little baby. If people find you anything more then amusing then you fooled them, but not me. You should get off here for a while and go to the gym so Sue doesn’t have to be embarrassed walking around with your fat self.

Lidman, Even though you're a cranky old slug pucker you're still on the Nation's do not harm list because basically you're harmless and I find you mildly amusing in small doses, very small doses.

I am sorry for your bad experience! I believe RCI is connected to SummerBay who may be afffiliated with II. Also, the "hurricane season" in the Caribbean are times to avoid at all costs as winds/seas can be life-threatening.
