I was amazed and relieved to see all the other negative reviews filed about NCO Financial. Wow, these people are really something else.

Here's my story:
I got a call from them regarding an overdue balance of about $25 for an account with a web-hosting company I had signed onto a few years ago. My credit card number had changed, and I had forgotten all about the website I made using the hosting services...

it hadn't really worked out.

So the web-hosting company, 1&1, didn't say anything to me until a few months later as this balance accrued, and proceeded to hand my account over to NCO Financial who phoned me up to inform me 'my credit was in danger.' I don't know all the rules regarding these things, but how much damage could $25 do to anyone's credit? Anyways, I called the web-hosting company back to sort everything out. They immediately transferred me to NCO.

After waiting for a few minutes, and getting one confused employee who didn't know the account code I had been given, I was transferred, and the conversation went like this: "Ok, so you owe 26.XX US, which is about 28.XX CAD... go to your online banking site, and pick us as a payee, and- what was the amount again?"
He stopped in the middle of his online banking description and drop-down menu story to ask me this point-blank question. Of course I hadn't gotten the exact amount down, I was going to ask him for it after he had finished explaining how to use the internet. "Uh, 25 dollars or something." I kind of stuttered, surprised that he had become so abrupt all of a sudden. Well, this did it. He lost it!

"SEE, YOU DON'T LISTEN!" He started hammering away at me, like I was some drug addict in for thousands of dollars in coke and he was the mafia there to collect after years of a worsening relationship.

Look at this. "Our skilled representatives specialize in developing and maintaining the relationships our clients value."

    What a load of garbage.
Hey NCO... your customer services stinks!

Ouch! Yes these people are ruthless. they have little or no regard for the law, (with a few exceptions, well maybe 1 anyway) I do not know what the laws are in canada for the tactics they use, but be very careful of what you say and the info you give them. there are several class actions against them.including 1 in my state.
Good luck , maybe someone else here can give you more direction as I see you are from canada, and won't be as much help.

You were shaken up for the next day or so because someone said,"SEE, YOU DON'T LISTEN"??? You're going to be facing alot more than that in your life ... when you do, you will look back at this as one of the "Good ol' days"...

Yeah, Uncle Joey says these things happen all the time.
"It's all part of growing up," he says.
One day I hope to be as smart as he is... :)

I was "shaken up" because of the quick change in tone... I was unprepared of it. I honestly didn't expect anyone to react over a $25 bill that needed to be paid.

I'm just not used to dealing with creditors.

It sounds like you would have handled it differently... I'd be curious to know how you would have responded to that phone conversation (if it was your first time ever talking on the phone to a creditor.)

Well...first, if they were calling from India or overseas somewhere, the first thing I'd say is "I want to talk to an English speaking rep in America" and I always say that no matter who I'm talking with, if they are from "over there"...but you didn't say where the call came from...so,it doesn't matter.

When the rep said, "what was that amount again"...I'd reply, "You're the one with the info, call me back when you figure it out".

When they said, "you don't listen"...I'd say, well you're not telling me anything....but I certainly wouldn't get shanken over it. But then again, I used to work for NCO and I used to train the collectors in F... more >>

From what you described, you did not deserve a rant about not listening. In fact you sounded like most of the debtors that I talk too. Most people forget about the balance during the call becuase it is catching a lot of people off guard.

That being said, NCO or any other debt collector is not there to provide customer service. The service they provide is to the company they are collecting for.

NCO reps are not trained to be nice and accommodating, but are trained to get the money for there customers. Although they do get mean, they told me that they are lawyers and they can garnish my wages if I didn't hand over $50.00 now. I just hung up on them and blocked there phone number, haven't heard from them since and this was about a year ago, I have since paid this off. This also never was brought to my attention until NCO called.
