Horrible Customer Service - Internet Telephone Service

I recently had the misfortune to contact Vonage about obtaining their "(60)-day free trial," which was not free because they immediately charged my credit card a $41.89 = $5.00 connection/service fee.
Within an hour I called back to cancel the order because Broadband Internet Service (a requirement for Vonage service) was not available.

I took one hour and fifteen minutes, several hang ups, and finally screaming and yelling at their various Customer Service Representatives to get the to agree to cancel the order. Which incidentally they promised to verify by email (which never came). I ended up having to dispute the charges through my credit card company and filing a consumer complaint through the FCC. No matter what savings you think you might get in switching to Vonage, please keep my experience in mind.

    Reallyupsetconsumer, they grabbeb your money so fast because they were just hit with a $120mil judgement. Vonage customers will be paying that off for some time. You made the right choice in dumping them and getting your money back. 79% of the M3C's members agree with you. (VH Post)

    I am not sure how you missed the fact that you needed a high speed internet connection. But either way I am sorry you found out about Vonage's horrible customer service the hard way. It should not be so difficult and time consuming to cancel a service.

    I read a story yesterday where Vonage signed up a woman in TN for service. When she received the box she called tech support because there was no dial tone. The tech had her go through the standard routine, still nothing. When he asked her what ISP she uses she responded that she doesn't have internet service. Turns out she was attracted to the $24 a month service but the sales rep never asked her if she had internet service. All he said was to plug the phone in to the box. Now she's fighting them to get her money back.
