True Up Charge, Energy Charges

Rating: 2/51

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA -- I received a bill in June 2016 for a True-Up amount of $385.00. I paid this bill. My July bill is $121.00. I understand kilowatt-hours, but to include an equal dollar amount for an energy charge is absurd (not including taxes). I think I'm helping to fund the new Vikings Stadium. I heard that stadium was cheaply constructed and falling apart which they showed on the news. Since the taxpayers helped fund that stadium, we should get free tickets.

Crappy Complaint Response
By -

ST PAUL, MINNESOTA -- I moved to a new apt. in Aug of 05. The mgrs subsequently sent notification to Xcel energy regarding my tenancy with instructions to begin service record for me. I never received a bill and made many attempts over the year to get Xcel to respond. In person visits had me being told they would send a bill - nope! Phone contact? Nope! Finally I received a bill that summer in July for the entire yr's charges. No apologies. No explanations. Just a demand for immediate payment. Being I am hearing impaired, contact is difficult so I resorted to using Xcel's website to make my displeasure known.

I felt that Xcel owed it to me after an entire yr trying to eat this huge charge since they were the ones who messed up. They refused to offer anything but a payment "spread out" not to exceed a yr... basically I was to be 'stuck' with a 'doubled' power bill. Because of my financial situation this was completely unworkable and since Xcel refused any but this option I finally agreed and got a bill for a doubled amount - which I paid. I never got any further bill and Xcel promptly 'lost' my acct again. Contact via website was a loser from the start and the only responses from Xcel was repeated billing for the entire amount - my power was finally cut in Dec 06 and I filed with the BBB.

Xcel then assigned me a customer advocate that basically did nothing but push the company 'spread out' plan line. With this going nowhere, I contacted an attorney who advised me to file with the attorney general and to also apply for energy aid. My aid was denied because I made too much - no luck there. To date I sit without power(luckily the heat is paid by the rent) and I am awaiting the results of the AG's inquiries and/or pressure. Suffice to say I am P.O.d in the extreme.

My treatment by Xcel was arrogant in the extreme and while I admit I did indeed use the electric since moving in, trying for a yr to get action is absurd and the unfriendly attitude is dismaying in a public utilities firm. Their website sucks and is gravely in need of work...especially for those who are handicapped and/or otherwise need alternate methods. Connecting with a problem was nearly unworkable because the website insists on things like phones etc when you may not have one..their inflexible pattern is appalling so be warned...

Xcel Energy And There Made Up Commodity Fees And Extras They Charge!
By -

AURORA, COLORADO -- Here is my review of Xcel Energy. My total cost on the bill I received is 152.77. My electric usage was 35.35. My gas was 37.52. That comes out to about 74.00. Now here comes the necessary???... EXTRA fees... that HAVE to be ADDED in. GRSA: Which charges the facility usage charge plus demand charge... 4.49... elec. commodity charge: This bogus charge RECOVERS... the cost of fuel and purchased energy used to supply electricity service to us...? (GREAT WORDING FOR THE TERM BEING CHARGED TWICE FOR THE SAME SERVICE...)

Demand charge: This charge recovers... the fixed costs associated with the system capacity necessary to produce and deliver power to the consumers (LUCKY US) THIS SOUNDS LIKE THE ELEC. COMM. ADJ. ALL OVER AGAIN.. (IT IS!) Purchase cap cost adj.:12.51... All rate schedules are SUBJECTED.... (FORCED) TO ABIDE BY THIS. The PCCA RECOVERS... (SAME WORD SAID IN THE SAME WAY AS ABOVE) COST to purchase electric generation capacity from other suppliers...? and is subject to annual costs... These are just some of the bogus charges we are being charged for electricity!!!

ALL THE ABOVE RULES ARE THE SAME THING!!! READ THEM!!! We are all so lucky in Colorado and other states I'm sure to be charged almost 3 times what we are using... What a BRILLIANT idea by this wonderful... company... Now the gas breakdown: usage charge: 8.33. Again this charge RECOVERS!!! (HERE IS THAT WORD AGAIN...) XCEL ENERGIES COST TO PROVIDE SERVICE... TO US...? (GETTING DIZZY YET OR ANGRY?) The pipeline pipes it in for us for one cost on my bill for 7.17 and THEN... another cost of 1.28 more. (I GUESS THE PIPE WAS SHORT AND THEY EXTENDED IT...)

Well last but not least: SERVICE AND FACILITY...9.34 FOR THE FIRST ONE 1.56 FOR THE SECOND ONE.... (I see these trucks parked usually at a park somewhere in the shade resting.. (I GUESS 11.00 IS NOT ENOUGH TO DO ANYTHING ELSE...) Every single charge is DOUBLED UP ON OUR BILL!!! All these phony charges are for the same thing! Hopefully everyone can see past this someday and take some action!!! It would be nice to pay for services rendered just 1 time instead of 3 or more!

Monopoly Stealing My Money
By -

AURORA, COLORADO -- I moved into my apt on sept. 18th, 2007. I took over a lease for my ex- boyfriend. I turned the energy in in my name and two months later xcel added my ex's past bills to my account even though we didn't live together. First I was told to have him call and take responsibility for his bill. When he did that, there was no notes put in the file so it's a like he didn't call. I had him call again after that I faxed a copy of my lease to excel, like I was told to.

But I still didn't get his past due amount taken off my account. I received a call a day later telling me I need to fax a copy of my old lease from where I was living before I moved to my current residence, but since I lived with my mother they told me I would still be accountable for his bill because I wasn't on my mother's lease and I couldn't prove that I wasn't living with him. Even though the bill was in his name, under his social, I have to pay it cause I took over his lease.

Even though I had him call and give them a billing address for him, I still have to pay his bill because someone at excel added him to my account without my authorization. I cannot get my energy turned on with a better company because there is only one energy company in my state. So I have to pay someone elses bill for an apartment I wasn't living in when the bill was generated. When they tell me what I need to do to fix it and I do it then there is something else that I have to do. I have no way to fix it except to pay someone else's bill.

Xcel is a Joke

LAFAYETTE, COLORADO -- I really can't understand how it is we pay nearly 10 times the amount shown right on the bill, for the energy used in our home. For instance, October 2011, $2.00 of gas & $7.00 of electricity cost us, wait for it, $78.00. You just have to love a monopoly, if you happen to own it, otherwise it sucks. Our son who lives 12 miles away in Longmont, in a home similar to ours, pays about $15-$20 per month for his energy due to Longmont's "Light and Power". Thanks so much to Xcel for overcharging us every month, and for fighting to prevent local municipalities from developing their own energy capabilities.

Faulty Meter
By -

MINNEAPOLIS, MINNESOTA -- I rent a little storefront in a small town from the local barber. My shop is open only two days a week and my light bill is very small. Suddenly in spring of 2004 my bill doubled. I called Xcel and they confirmed that my meter had been replaced. On advice of someone at their regional offices, I continued to pay my usual amount to avoid a disconnect until my meter could be replaced and tested, which took several months. Upon replacement, my bill dropped to the original amount. I expected Xcel to remove the overcharges from my record. Wrong. They said it tested accurate and they continue to press me for the back amount plus monthly penalty to this day.

My phone calls during 2004 made no difference, so I put everything in writing to their Credit Services Office in 2005, along with a letter from my landlord saying that there had been no changes to internal wiring to account for the jump in bill. I received no answer. The monthly penalty plus back bill has reached the point where they are threatening to disconnect this week It is not the money as much as the principle. I see other people have had similar treatment from Xcel.

Xcel Energy Is A Monopoly With No Customer Security Or Service

DENVER, COLORADO -- Five months ago my lease ended. This was a good thing considering my roommate was horrible and previous to my moving in had acquired a large bill with Xcel Energy. Long story short, currently I have moved into my own house, and have been paying Xcel Energy faithfully every month, she hasn't. A week ago I discovered Xcel had allowed my ex-roommate of over 5 months to charge her bill to my account. What did Xcel do? NOTHING! They said it could be considered FRAUD, I'd have to contact my BANK. In conclusion, they didn't help rectify the situation.

So, BEWARE currently their system allows you to pay over the phone by check, it doesn't tell you it will be saving the number so that anyone with your phone number can call and make a payment on the account with your card. OH AND... I called them five months ago to take my name off the account. I guess that TAKE ME OFF THE ACCOUNT is to VAGUE for Xcel to understand I don't want my checking account to be charged either. THE BEST PART, They are the only utility provider available.
