JVC Complaint - Warranty Troubles - JVC 37" LCD 1080p

JVC 37" LCD 1080p - Complaint
Review by Adspru1 on 2008-02-01
Purchased display unit JVC 37" LCD 1080p. Brought home and it was not working properly. Called Jvc to get the issue resolved and after holding for an hour. they authorized a local repair center to work on it. 1 week later I get a call that they placed an order for a new panel and that it was denied because JVC wanted them to try an new anolog board to see if it would resolve the issue. Another week goes by and I get a call from my local shop that they received the part from JVC and it did not resolve the issue. They were back to the starting point of needing a new panel(expensive part JVC did not want to replace). JVC fianlly sent a new panel out 3 weeks after the issue was first noted to them.

Panel arrives a week later and TV works great. But one month in the shop and 12 hours of hold time trying to talk to someone at JVC that had no idea what was going on. 1 month and 12 hours on the phone... Crazy.

Asked if they offered anything for my inconvenience and they said NO. Will not purchase JVC product again. Never had issues like this with sony or H/K

Thanks for the information. I will be looking into buying an HDTV soon. My approach will be to buy from a local store that services them as well. Asking a repair tech which company they get the best support from. (VH)

chuck we bought a 50 inch samsung and it's been wonderful. We also have a 40 inch sharp aquos in the bedroom. Both are great. The samsung has a nicer picture.
If the TV didn't work right the day you got it home, why didn't you return it that day?

Agreed, you should have returned it. I suggest getting the march issue just out of consumer reports - has the latest info and reviews on HDTVs and an interesting article about satellite vs. cable signal.

Chuck, we have a Sony LCD and a Phillips Plasma. The Phillips has a better picture and can be viewed from anyplace in the room. The Sony seems to have a deeper color but the viewing is more limited. If space is a problem hanging a plasma on a wall works best. Check them all out, lot's of good stuff out there right now. Remember what ever you buy will be outdated in six months anyway.

Our old 27" JVC is 12 years old now but won't die so it has made it's way to the guest room. It's never been to the shop and still has a great pic so I guess I will just knock on wood.

The Sony Bravia XBR4 is top rated.

Picture quality is a major consideration, true. But, what I would like to hear about is people who have had a problem with their LCD HDTV while under warranty and the manufacturer stood behind their product efficiently.

This was a display unit, so I would assume that buying out of box may not be worth the risk.

Even though it may not be directly related, SS has a good point. I would need a really, really deep discount (under cost) to buy a demonstrator TV. Unlike a dryer that just gets its door opened a lot, floor model TVs get turned on at opening and run till closing all day, every day. That's quite a bit of wear on a "new" set if it's been the display model for 6 months.
