The cable that Comcast installed from the telephone pole to our house fell down to the ground. We were worried that our dog might bite it or someone may trip. My wife called 2x starting on 2/12/08 to have the cable restrung. On 3/6/08 I made a call requesting that the line be restrung. On 3/11/08 I called for the 4th time and asked to cancel the cable. Comcast said then said that they would have the cable restrung today and would give me 1 week free.

This is sad service. I wonder if they will really fix the cable today. We are going to look into Direct TV.

No other subject is more inflammatory or explains better the demise of our society than the sad state of cable TV today. The world is so full of feebleminded fribbles and malodorous chiselers that one need not look to far to find yet another victim of the industrial cable TV complex. I'm done with cable TV for good.

"We are going to look into Direct TV." - Look, but don't touch. Comcast may be a problem but DirecTV is a nightmare. If you do go with DirecTV be careful. DO NOT rely on anything they promise you on the phone. They LIE. Go online and read their terms of service. Know what you are getting into. Above all DO NOT give them your bank account information.

I agree w/ chuck. We've had comcast & directv before. Didn't like either, but directv was way worse.

"We are going to look into Direct TV", that will prove a very bad choice. If you do it don't believe anything they tell you. Chuck is 100% right.

A neighbor of mine had to deal with a ComCrap cable running across his yard for about 2 years. When he switched to FIOS and canceled ComCrap the very next day a ComCrap crew arrived to bury the cable.

I hate to let a little thing like the FACTS get in the way of my colleagues opinions and I know its not what they want but it's what they are going to get. Direct TV is consistantly ranked #1 in overall satisfaction.. Not 2.. not 3 but NUMBER ONE. Yes read it again... NUMBER ONE.. say it to yourself ... NUMBER ONE. The misinformation spewed on this site is maddening.. I on the other hand only deal in FACTS...

    from http://www.cable360.net/voice/25138.html

"DirecTV this morning celebrated its latest J.D. Power & Associates customer satisfaction scores, topping three out of four U.S. regions polled in Power's just-released 2007 survey of ... more >>

Stew: Although I too like to "deal in facts" (however it doesn't get me very far sometimes on this site), I think the facts that you are attempting to post are not really relevant...This is from the link you provided:

"DirecTV's sweep in this poll contrasts with cable's sweep of J.D. Power's 2007 survey of residential regional telephone customer satisfaction released last month. Perazzini explained why the telco customer satisfaction survey is divided into six regions while the cable and satellite customer satisfaction survey is based on four regions (and thus not a strict apples-to-apples comparison)."

    In other words, I really don't t ... more >>

Aerocave --- With all due respect I never posted anything about "customer service"? I said number one in overall customer satisfaction. I think being number one in customer satisfaction is a pretty good refute to those who claim DirecTV is a bad choice or a nightmare. I guess I don't see your point on this one.

i have had both dirctv and comcast. by far dirctv is the worst ever.

dirctv will lock you into an endless contract with zero way out except death. and then will charge you 188$ for that pleasure.

    UrFriendlyPirate (03/11/2008)
DirecTV is great, I've had it for years with no complaint. Analog cable is a poor second choice.

    superbowl (03/11/2008)
Madconsumer and Aerocave the voice's of truth, fact and reason as always. Can Stew answer why satellite services have well over 5,000 complaints on M3C's? Why satellite services have less than a 5% approval rating on M3C's? Ask Stew who he has for cable and Internet, Cox Cable of course. Stew's comments have been discredited once again.

    Aerocave (03/11/2008)
My point is you stated Direct TV is number one in overall satisfaction...but the complaints we read about is customer service issues, including contracts, broken promises, poor reception, etc...and the link you provided basically proves that Direct TV is number 1 in overall satisfaction...of what? Who? and Why? I pasted a part of the article that says that cable has been #1 in another, more detailed survey...and referances that the survey talked about is not really an "apples to apples" comparison. I certainly realize that opinions overlook facts sometimes--but what are really the facts? Thats what I was trying to say...

    Stew.old (03/11/2008)
"Can Stew answer why satellite services have well over 5,000 complaints on M3C'" -- I sure can.. Google "direct tv complaints" and the first hit is My3cents. So If I'm a would be DirectTv complainer I'm probably going to stumble on to my3cents.

"Why satellite services have less than a 5% approval rating on M3C's?" -- Honestly you can't equate an approval rating on My3cents with an honest statistically sound study.

"Ask Stew who he has for cable and Internet" - Cox and for the most part I'm very happy with Cox but let me tell you their technical support and technicians leave a lot to be desired. And it doesn't matter who I have or don't ... more >>

Aerocave -- The survey said Cable companies were doing well in providing telephone service not the 'Apples' to 'Apples' comparison I sited judging providing TV programming.

I can logically infer that being number one in customer satisfaction would definitely speak to their customer service but you're right I don't know that for sure and that wasn't the point I was making. Survey after survey have shown people are happier with satellite than cable for providing TV programming. I stand by my point.

    Lidman (03/11/2008)
Here at Team Lid’s our philosophy departs from the Newtonian world view that Direct TV should even exist. Here are three reasons why:

    1) Holism or emergentism: the idea that the whole is more than the sum of its parts. When different components are put together, they may interact either synergistically or antagonistically, but in general this interaction creates something new, an "emergent" system or property. Direct TV can not fill that criteria.

    2) Beyond materialism: non-material, "mental" factors, such as intelligence, knowledge, goal-directedness and feeling are also important in the functioning of such systems yet as we see here ... more >>

    superbowl (03/11/2008)
Team Lidman, the voice of knowledge and fact once again. TV reception and customer service are two different issues. I wish a couple of members would stop praising the virtues of an analog DirecTV signal when the post is about service. STAY ON THE SUBJECT! DirecTV may have a nice picture but like Dish network and Vonage the customer service is non existent. Plus satellite providers lie a lot just to get your money.

    Team Superbowl, "The Winning Team".

Direct TV Customer Service. Never ever have I experienced a company as bad as Direct TV they sent me the wrong box three times, then sent the wrong Dish, then sent three Box's that didn't work (this is with a service guy telling them they were the wrong item) this has been going on for 3 MONTHS and then they wanted to charge me,because every time you call them it's a different person and the last one didn't mark free instal. or any information It's like groundhog day over and over
