Ipod Mechanic Rip Off - Ipod Repair

I sent my ipod in to be repaired to ipod mechanic. The screen was cracked but other than that it worked fine. I received an email giving me a quote for the repairs. I thought it was reasonable and agreed to the repairs. A few weeks went by and I decided to send an email to find out the status of my repair.

I received an email back from a lawyer asking me for my name, serial number, and other info. I sent him the info and than received a letter from the lawyer saying my ipod had been seized by the government and they were trying to get it back for me. When I asked for info on the government official that had my ipod, he said there wasn't any numbers for me to get? I contacted the Better Business Bureau and started a complaint. I than received an email from ipod mechanic saying they had received my ipod back from the government and I would be getting an email from them on how they would be getting me my ipod.

I have not heard anything since. Do not use this company if you value your ipod. I have since found many more complaints about this company sending people the wrong ipod, charging for repairs that were not needed, or losing ipods all together. Ipod mechanic is a horrible business.

    I'm just curious why you did not return it directly to Apple for repair?

    A lawyer would never send an e-mail. They would send you a certified letter requiring a signature on delivery. If the government seized your Ipod because of an investigation, they would give you numbers to call so that you could identify which one was yours. You're better off just sending the Ipod to Apple for repairs. I would never send mine anywhere else.

    Yetti, now a day Lawyers do send emails so be not dismayed about feeling like you got taken. The thing is if you have this email send it to the AG where you live and let them see who this person is or is not. I read their web site and I thank you for your review on these people. This Lawyer's letters is most likely a phony sent by some idiot who forgot about your IPod and is just coming up with a stupid excuse to give him/her self time to get to it or maybe they sold it as used to someone else?

    What!? I think you need to call this attorney who emailed you and get all the details about this. This does not sound like something for the BBB. You may even want to consult your own representation on this.

    Oops, I forgot to add, if you have the lawyers name and location you can do a search of the Bar Association in that area to verify that this person is in fact a lawyer.

    Apple does not repair iPods, if something goes wrong, they replace the entire iPod completely. An out of warranty replacement is extremely expensive and seeking a 3rd party repair center is usually more cost effective, unfortunately this service seems to have been a scam.

    BigBoxWorker- Yes, apple does do repair, but they offer it in a service plan type.

    No apple does not do repairs on iPods, they call it a repair, but really they replace your iPod with a brand new one. That's why simple problems with your iPod that are considered out of warranty are expensive to fix through apple because the just hand you a brand new iPod.

    I took my ipod to the Apple store and they said all they could do was give me a discount on a new ipod. Going to a third party was my only choice. My ipod was less than two month old.

    I did talk to the lawyer personally and did check to find out if this was a real lawyer firm. It was. I contacted my own lawyer service and was told to file a complaint with the BBB and see where that goes. If that does not work, than legal actions will have to be taken.

    Yettie, Are you (and your lawyer) aware that the BBB cant and wont be able to MAKE something happen here? The BBB is simply a third party designed to help consumers who are having a hard time communicating with a company. I would suggest that you (or your lawyer) contact your states (and the state the business is in) Attorny Generals office.

    You noted that your iPod was less than two months old? Wouldn't there still be some sort of warranty with it? I thought it was for a year. I've purchased more than one (personal and for gifts) and I seem to remember that there is a one-year warranty from Apple. Of course they want to sell additional warranty, but one year, I believe, is provided.
