Crappy Maytag Dishwasher - Maytag Quiet Series 100 Dishwasher

My Maytag dishwasher is not even a year old yet and it has a major problem. It leaves soap in the arms of it so it is always clogged up which the technicians claim is my hard water. There is always soap on the dishes from them not getting rinsed properly due to all the clogging, even after an extra rinse it still is not cleaned off.

The technicians also tell me that I need to buy all this CLR and vinegar and dump it in there once a week to keep it cleaned out.

I know about 15 people with the same water I have and they have dishwashers that are even older then mine and they work great and were also less expensive. Maytag is unwilling to replace my dishwasher or give me a refund. They have been out here about 5 times now only to say I have bad water. It seems to me that it would cost Maytag less just to replace my dishwasher then make all these trips out to my house.

At this point I don't really want a replacement though because I don't want another Maytag in my home. Their appliances and so called warranty service are lousy. I have also advised people not to buy Maytag. I know a lot of people.

Maytag has unusually small holes molded into their washarms. It is on purpose to create more water pressure for cleaning but may be why they are clogging. Maytag is for the most part right- It is your water, but in combination with their unique design. More like "stuff happens" then a defective product, so getting Maytag to do much may be tough. You may just need to punch the arm holes clean with a toothpick or the like on occasions as long as you have the unit. Convenient no, but better then throwing out a year old product. Of course a water softener may be in order if other water facilities are also compromised in the house.

I was sleeping with my hound dog when all this happened.

Our Maytag "tall door" dishwashwer leaves about 1/2 the dishes dirtier than when they went in. The technician tells us the tall door design includes a smaller, less powerful pump. The food debris is not removed from the dishwasher as in older models because the pump is not strong enough to suck out the debris. The washer arms get clogged with what used to be normal food debris. The "filter" on the back wall doesn't even function and Maytag knows it doesn't work. We have had three service calls and we will keep calling them until they replace this poorly designed dishwasher. The technician implied that they are going to have recurring problems ... more >>

    So it's not just me.
It's not your water. And it's not just the holes in the jets. It's the filters.
I have a Jetclean. I need to clean the filters often - couple times a month - if I want clean dishes.
The only way I can figure out how to clean them is to take the whole lower washarm assembly apart. There are three separate filters in there. Every time I take it apart they are clogged solid.
I try to rinse the dishes as best I can, before washing them, due to this problem (the dishwasher has a "disposal" builtin, so you don't have to rinse first... phft!). Still the filters clog.
Does a good enough job for a few loads, right after ... more >>

I've been "playing" with our one year old, Maytag Quiet Series 300 dishwasher, coaxing it to actually do a decent job. According to the manual it's my problem for having hard water. So.......I've used just about every hard water soap, rinsing agent, spot remover, etc.
And here is my analysis.............the racks are too deep. Take a good look at it. The bottom rack falls forward and the top rack restricts the soap door from completely opening. Open it when it's done and watch the soap door flip up. As a result, there is always soap residue in the soap bin. IT NEVER RINSES COMPLETELY CLEAN. It's BAD product design, plain and simple! I ... more >>

I agree with everything you say about "all hardwater issues". In addition to water I believe mine also OVERHEATS and turns stuff brown (aluminum) scum that can't be washed off (red Colender) the heat element has turned scaley white and all I hear is "hard water"...sure we have hard water but you would think they would build the machines to compensate for it. And I don't believe they can blame it all on hard water when it thrns brown or has a gasoline sheen - that is too hot! Crappy appliances and service
