How many WalMart employees does it take...? - customer service...what customer service??? |
|
So I woke up early on a Sunday morning to help my friend take his car to the car care department at one of the WalMarts in Albuquerque. Now if the same process is repeated in all other Walmarts, you may be familiar with the process of getting an oil change there: you arrive early [real early!] and put you car in line and wait for an employee to come and take your info, then they will tell you the approximate time it will take for your car to be serviced.
This particular Sunday, we arrived to Walmart and there were two cars ahead of us...we figured it would be about 45 minutes to and hour [acceptable]. As we waited two more cars pulled up behind us. As we waited some more, by now the store had opened, still no one came out to greet us [use that term loosely] and take our info. The two people parked in front got out of their cars and went inside [the doors are open, who'd know???]...we followed.
Upon entering we saw that there were two women already there by the cashier's desk...The employee made no intent of informing the customers [read, those that pay her wages, however meager that may be] and went about her 'business'...a few minutes later, she asked, 'who's first?'
well, to me and my friend, as well as anyone else in mankind, that would mean who got there early and had been sitting in there car waiting for the doors [or the employee to come out] to open...nope, instead, these two women, who by the way were the ones parked behind us, stepped up and proceeded to begin their transaction...dumbstruck, me, my friend, and the two other customers who were parked in front of us just stared...well, not to be outdone by THEIR crassness, I stepped up and asked the employee, "Shouldn't you be taking the information from those who arrived here first?"
Her response left me perplexed, "I don't have my greeter here, so it's whoever is in THIS line first, I can't do it all!"
The responses to that remark flooded my brain...I chose, "So you need your 'greeter person' to help you rub the two brain cells that you have to figure out that the correct and courteous thing to have done and asked was, 'Who has been waiting in line the longest?'
I did not wait for her response, instead I found a manager and requested that her actions be acknowledged and that something in the interest of customer service [a foreign concept to those at WalMart] should be done...
Her response? "Well, the manager for the automotive shop doesn't work on Sundays, come back Monday morning and speak with him."
Oh, as if giving up my Sunday morning wasn't enough? Did I have "Self-made millionaire" stamped on my forehead? Did I not have to work on Monday? Take time out of MY schedule to fix WalMart's problem, why of course, how silly of me!
To top it all off, the whole process of changing the oil in my friend's car took 2 1/2 hours including the time it took to tell us [30 minutes into oil change] that they didn't have the oil my friend had requested...
The moral of the story:
WalMart should have stuck to it's 5 and dime business concept, it can't handle it mega business nor can it train its employees in courtesy, and it isn't worth the 19.99 it charges to wait 2 1/2 hours and inept employees...Jiffy Lube is worth my time! Next Wal-Mart Review >>>

Anonymous (12/08/2003) With jack-ass customers like you we just charge you and not perform any service on your car. haha.
| Anonymous (12/08/2003) sometimes, when the customers are extremely demanding, we'll unscrew the oil filter and leave it barely hanging on. So when you drive down the street, the oil leaks out and your engine freezes up.
| Anonymous (12/08/2003) Do you ever put water in the gas tank when someone is a big penis? or steal money from their consoles?
| Anonymous (12/10/2003) 'Common yall, we've all had a bad day. I agree with this person! Sounds like not only did he have a bad day, that blonde did too.....maybe even the Manager who wasn't there. The moral of the story? A lot of times you just have to except things. Speaking your mind helps a little but not over all. What satisfies for the moment, will not satisfy your conscience. So be nice and courteous no matter how hard it is. One day, all things come back to YOU. By the way article writer, you really would make a great writer. Why not pursue that instead? I'm very serious.
| Anonymous (12/19/2003) You stupid lube techs just proved you are idiot slaves to a greedy chink loving business. Bet you make a lot of money working at walmart huh? You obviously can't get a job in a real garage because you don't know an oil cap from a rock. Nice going bubbas.
| Anonymous (12/20/2003) How sad that whack-offs like these so-called mechanics take such pride and pleasure in messing with honest and hard-working peoples cars. Just remember what goes around, comes around and unless you ride bicycles, I'd be a little worried about PAYBACK fellas!
| Anonymous (12/30/2003) "Wal Mart" and "customer service" should never be used in the same sentence! However, bringing your car to WalMart for an oil change??? I know lots of people do but I dont want a company that cant put prices on items correctly messing around in the engine of my car.
| Anonymous (01/05/2004) Payback? I am an AM at a neighborhood market and with our security system, you'd have to be a complete moron to mess with one of our cars. As far as screwing people over goes, we can do whatever the hell we want because you'll keep coming back for the prices.
| You think those lube techs are kidding but they're NOT! The things they mention happen routinely at Wal-Mart Auto Centers. Whether or not they happen on purpose or through incompetence really doesn't matter now does it? You might as well pick up the first high school drop-out off the street and let him/her work on your car.
You lube jobs forgot to mention overtightening the drain plug until a. it strips, or b. it cracks the oil pan. (my personal favorite)
| why the hell would you take your car to walmart in the first place to have it worked on......do you people work in that much of a hick town that you dont have real mechanics
| Wow, I'm so glad that all of you people can do your jobs perfectly without ever making mistakes or needing help. You have to keep in mind how many people come in and out of the TLE everyday. If the lady you were talking to was not the greeter, then she was probably not use to do the greeter's job. Give her a break. Everyone gets so stressed out shopping at Wal-mart, just imagine what it is like to be one of us that work there.
| Well, if a "greeter" is needed to infuse the long ago forgotten practice of politeness at WalMart, then WalMart should truly look at whether or not they should be working on vehicles (even the mundane task of changing oil). Only a moron would need a greeter to aid them in being polite, and if one cannot keep in order the concept of a first come first serve, then perhaps they should show up at the house of stupidity and bypass the waiting period for honors.
| It's people like you that make our day harder.Everyone makes mistakes and you people are for sure not perfect!Walmart does have decent pay and I garauntee you We all have benefits you would only dream of having. As far as that high school drop-out thing goes I am a Ford certified recall tech and work at Walmrt part time to have better things and take care of my 4 kids.So the next time you bad mouth Walmart maybe you should be bad mouthing Ford Motor Company.I don't Know about other Walmart TLE's but I can tell you your horror stories are a load of crap. Just remember the person who's putting tires on your car and changing your oil because you... more >>
| I really hate those Anonymous people. They start insulting others and they themselves are too cowardly to just put their name and face the music. Yeesh. It's sad to know the world is comprised of people like that.
@ Person-who-created-this-thread: Uhh, sorry. I didn't read some of it. D:
| Next time take your car to a store that is stictly in business to service cars. They probably pay their employees much better, which in turn, hopefully means that they are better at their job - this is just another type of business the Evil Walmart is trying to usurp.

They probably pay their employees much better, which in turn, hopefully means that they are better at their job - this is just another type of business the Evil Walmart is trying to usurp. Evil Walmart will not be happy and satisfied until they've eliminated ALL our options to where we shop. They can't leave well enough alone - they want to put every kind of business imaginable out of business. Please don't buy into Evil Walmart's 'cheap' price structure - it's costing you more than you realize.
| Listen, to all of those who think that walmart and there employees are incompitent, please do shop somewhere else. I currently work at a walmart TLE and have automotive credentials, ASE,SEMA certified, Honda certiefied, mercedes and bmw certs. I worked for a company based out of charloote NC that sold and installed custom performance parts for high end cars (ferrari, bmw, mercedes,vw,audi, porsche, maserati, aston martin, bently just to name a few). The company slowed down i wasn't making any money and so i decided to go back to school and get a job closer to home. with that said, i do agree that walmart should look at who they hire and make sure... more >>
| I just don't know where to start. Help!
| I'm speechless.
| Ummmm...hmmmm. Where would I begin with this one?
| for one, the people inside are instructed not to write up the cars, for two, if there was no greeter then there was no greeter.
And to all you people bashing us That have to work at walmart to live, screw you, I have been a TLE tech at 3 different stores(moved alot), I have seen many different people, most of the ones i work at have very competent workers, we do our job to get our paycheck.
And to all you wankers telling people we leave filters loose intentionally? Maybe you are or are not TLE workers, if you are, shame on you, if you aren't, i hope your motor explodes in respite.
I may not exactly like being treated like trash by th... more >>
