The International Wine Center in New York City runs the WSET (Wine and Spirits Education Trust) programs. They claim this is a program that will train you to be a wine professional.

The claim is totally bogus. They are not certified to run a school for sommeliers or wine professionals. Their claims violate New York state laws*.

This means their certificates and diplomas are illegitimate.

You cannot legally use a WSET certificate to gain employment, not only in New York, but anywhere in the USA.

This company has been defrauding students for at least ten years!

*The IWC/WSET have violated the following NY laws & regulations by claiming they offer professional training for the food & wine industries:

New York Laws: Education : (5001 - 5010) Private Trade And Correspondence Schools

"Schools required to be licensed or registered. No private school or computer training facility which charges tuition or fees for instruction and which is not exempted hereunder shall be operated by any person or persons, firm, corporation, or private organization for the purpose of teaching or giving instruction in any subject or subjects, unless it is licensed or registered by the department. ...and you got this information from the corner wino pushing his shopping cart containing a bottle of Boone's Farms (or whatever that high-class wine is called)?

Whoever claimed that that WSET degree will lead to a job in the wine and spirits industry didn't have 20/20 vision when he jumped off the Night Train (almost getting run over by someone driving a Thunderbird) to operate this "International Wine Center".

After my party last night, I should be set up for a Master's Degree in Wine Tasting! Woo hoo! In all seriousness, most proprietary "schools" claim a lot of things, the biggest being that the Associate's you get from them will easily transfer to a state college. Uh, no, not unless they are nationally accredited, and few are.

I took a course at the school. Before I signed up I carefully checked them out. I didn't see any claim that completing their courses will get you a job. It's up to the individual to find a job. Even getting a diploma from Harvard isn't a guarantee of a job. What are you talking about? The course I took was thorough and informative.

I am very eager to make contact with the owner of this website, as I wish to clarify some of the assumptions made on the site, to make the owner aware of facts that have occurred subsequent to the creation of the website, and to answer any grievances the owner of this site might have with the organisation of which I am Chief Executive – the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET).

There are also a number of errors of fact in the content on the site, which I wish to see corrected. I appreciate t ... more >>

i thought that the review has a valid point

i believe the issue isn't that you can't find a job using that class but that the "certificate" they issue isn't being issued in accordance with ny state law

basically it sounds like the school is making people think the certificate can be used for a job, when in fact it can't legally be accepted
