My wife and I have personally owned 23 different General Motors Cars and Trucks over the last 35 years. I can say that YES I WAS a LOYAL General Motors CUSTOMER. I also can say "YES I CAN" switch to another manufacturer. NOW: On to the problem at hand.

My 2007 Chevrolet Avalanche has what GM refers to as NO START.

Since September 3rd. of 2008 my Avalanche has had 6 NO START occurrences. It has been in the shop for each and every occurrence for diagnosis, evaluation, and even for the installation of a BLACK BOX DATA RECOVERY Tool which (according to GM) will retrieve CODES from the vehicle to direct the repair technicians to the problems. On DECEMBER 26th. 2008 my wife and I were returning home to Southern Illinois and had stopped at a shopping mall for no longer than 1/2 hour. Upon exiting the mall and approaching the vehicle I found the Avalanche to be in the usual NO START condition. No happy faces for my wife or for me. The temperature was in the 20's with wind chill at (who knows). After a wait of 1 and 1/2 to 2 hours the vehicle is towed to the closest Chevrolet Dealership. Did I mention that the roads were solid sheets of ice from the previous days rain. Sorry off the topic again.

This dealership could not jump start the vehicle to get it to run. After several minutes of inspection and wire wiggling an electrical connection was re-established. The Technician at this dealership felt that an underhood fuse block was going open once the vehicle had been parked. (Note: All 6 occurrences were when vehicle HAD BEEN PARKED) If the dealership would have had one at hand they would have put it on the Avalanche. We left the dealership to make a no stops allowed return home. Good thing I gassed up the night before.

Our dealership was aware of the above occurrence due to our contacting them at the time of the incident.

It appears that GM invented their "magical box data recovery device" as a way to circumvent their buy-back policy i.e. the box will never record that anything is wrong with your Avalanche, and GM will never buy it back. How do you feel about giving GM $billions in tax dollars so that they continue to produce shoddy cars and give shoddy service?

It seems like you will definitely need a lawyer with this one. I'd go back to the one place that seemed to know what the problem was and get written documentation from that technician.

    Good luck.

Buy a Honda or Toyota next time. Many are made here in the USA and they are extremely reliable.

I've had five Fords and one Toyota. Care to guess which one has never failed me and which five were pieces of junk?

You asked how I feel about the bailout. I can only say that GM really does not understand.
If the customer base (fellow purchasers) continue to erode because of company policies that are not in the best interest of the customer. I believe that GM will self destruct as people buy the product offered by other vehicle manufacturers. They will stand behind their warranties and receive favorable responses that spread the good will of thier company. yes it will expand their companies with the cast-offs from GM & other non-caring auto manufacturers.
I Think the money loaned to these companies will not help without policy changes within the compan... more >>

The bailout will not solve corporate greed and that is at the heart of every big business failure in America right now. They need to jail people who are making millions off of the failure of the company and the layoffs of the people under them. Right now, 50 million dollars has been alloted to the now defunct National City bank in Cleveland. It will be split between its 14 CEOs, Vice presidents, etc. The workers have to find new jobs and get nothing. My friend lost $80K in stock. Nice, huh.

I think you might have better success working through your selling dealership. GM will certainly make every attempt to satisfy a customer, including a potential "buy back" situation--if there is enough evidence to justify it. And if the dealer gets behind you, they can sometimes pressure their ASM (Area Service Manager) to make a bad situation right. You mentioned this happened 6 times, yet you only wrote about 2 occasions...I'm assuming all 6 "no start" conditions have been documented? I can understand that this is a huge inconvience, but I also would say that based off of your posting, where you utilized all caps at times (which is basi... more >>

The dealership tried to go to bat for me and was accused of trying to make an easy sell , meaning that if GM purchased the vehicle back that they the dealership would be able to sell me a new vehicle. If they (GM) did purchase the vehicle back then I would have no obligation to buy from that dealership and could go where I would choose to. Am I frustrated with the vehicle not being dependable? Yes I am. I personally feel that they have had six months to fix the vehicle. No I don't care to keep taking my vehicle back for this attempt and that attempt to fix it. There comes a time to remedy this situation. I believe that you (Aerocave) are atte... more >>

GM is still not willing to budge. It is time to ask for Arbitration. No more of the same GM line of thinking that the customer will just have to continue to drive the vehicle until they have the codes to repair the problem.

I traded the 07 Avalanche off to the dealership I purchased it from. GM would not change their view of the whole situation. The dealership allowed me what would have been the buyback amount. I did however have to pay full retail on the 09 Avalanche minus the $1,500.00 rebate. Long story short is that I am not bitter with GM so much as I am disappointed with GM. This will be my last post on that matter. I sincerely hope that the person who ends up buying the 07 has better luck with it than I did. Thanks for all of the helpful posts on this matter.

After all your terrible experiences with GM, I can't believe that you bought another GM product.

    xsgt1 (02/24/2009)
It was trade for another GM or to really lose a lot of money on a different manufacturers vehicle. The dealership took a hit on this trade and GM didn't bat an eye. Of course why should they. Oh well I guess they (GM) will continue on and will continue to not do the right thing for the consumer.
