PODS Complaint - Consumers Beware - Pods Relocation

Pods Relocation - Complaint
Review by lybarbano on 2009-01-30
EASTON, PENNSYLVANIA -- I would like to inform consumers Not to Use PODS at all. Please start boycotting them. You are not covered by anything covering agency if you use PODS.

If your furniture is damaged while in a POD you are not protected in any way shape or form. They will not file any insurance because they do not have it and their philosophy is 'oh we are so sorry but too bad'

My furniture was stored in Pods from April 7th 2008 until December 22, 2008 when I
discovered that my furniture was soaked. I have been repeatedly asking the Pod franchise to replace my furniture however they have not investigated the furniture but me which has nothing to do with the my furniture being dry and in good shape and coming out of the pods soaked with water and damaged beyond belief.

My furniture is making me sick and it is in my garage. Every time I try to see what I can salvage - I get sick and end up in the Hospital. Plus they refer back to their Franchises and back their franchises even if the Franchise is lying. They have wiped me out on all my furnishings and appliances from the water damage done by their pod.

I have sent e-mails to the Lawyers, President, called on the phone. Now I am calling all the states Sales and Use Tax Division and filing complaints and causing investigations - I started with California because they are the toughest to go thru.

I am going to have to get a lawyer to take this to court and also to go to the Media this weekend

I would also warn that if you use First Choice Franchise of PODS in West Easton, PA you will be treated with a very rude and slanderous man. The POD Company itself will not work with you or file any claims because they have no insurance to cover the PODS. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!! CONSUMERS BEWARE!!!!

My question would be: Whose responsibility is it to carry insurance on your furniture? Don't you have homeowners' insurance which would cover this damage? In the moves I've made, in each case there was a disclaimer on the contract that the moving company was not responsible for cartons or articles I personally packed. I've never used PODS but since all they do is drop off the unit and later pick it up, I'm only guessing the consumer would be responsible for insurance. Have they given you an explanation of who should carry this insurance?

Ponie, I agree about the insurance, Looking on the website I see they are "weather resistant" that sets off some bells. There is probably a disclaimer somewhere in the contract.
lybar, good post vh..

jktshff1, I also went to the website hoping I could find an answer to my question. They don't have a 'Contact Us' link either. Don't know if I'll ever have any use for them, but if I ever do after reading this post I'll certainly know the questions to ask. That's one of the good things about M3C--I usually learn something new each time I visit.

That's why I did the vh thing. I really would not have thought about checking out for leaks. Seeing them sitting in front of houses you would thing waterproof would be a given.
Makes read the fine print mor important.

They are required by law to carry insurance however they are not covered by any agencies such as Moving Companies and Storage Units and since you can have them packed by yourself or someone else the Consumer Advocacy and the Dept of Transportation does not cover them. I have learned a very hard lesson. I had insurance on them additional insurance however it does not cover anything at all and after what I have learned about the PODS and the treatment of People and the lack of response that I have received from them I would tell you Steer CLear - They do high water pressure test - They do not show you the results (you have no idea if they do it on your pod or not)- When what happened was an Ice Damn - A freak of nature which is covered however they say that it is not conclusive so too bad oh well hope you feel better. I am heading once again to the hospital for my asthma from this water damaged furniture. Homeowners insurance does not cover the PODS either. Laws to Protect consumer against this sort of damage done by Moving Companies and Self Storage do not cover them. I am just warning everyone be aware you are not covered by anything if you use them. I am totally wipe out of all my furnishings and too bad they say. Who has that kind of money to replace everything they own today? I certainly don't
