Anti-Customer Attitude, Scam Behaviour, Just Money Oriented

I am customer of MyHeritage from 2008, when I transferred my data, unfortunately, from Brother's Keeper. Already at the beginning there were problems with data transfer to their software, they were not able to solve it and I had to correct by hand whole database of cca 6000 people. Today I'm on numbers over 50k and I can see that nothing changed.

  1. They are not able to solve the problems. More than 5 years ago, during one of their updates, all the private and anonymized data were published (and it caused me a lot of problems) and during this time I lost also thousands (!) of pictures in database. In fact they are appearing as if they were there present, but they are not in software and not on web site.

When I thoroughly described the problem, their only answer is the request to describe the problem and then they disappear and never come back. And after certain time when I describe the problem again, it repeats the same. Their answer, if it ever comes, takes 2 weeks and more. It takes few years in total already, nothing solved and I was more than patient, but nothing works and obviously it will never work. They NEVER HELPED, they have no interest to help. It seems to be that their IT department, if there is some, even doesn't what to do, if they do something, barely know what they are doing.

  1. They are nice only when selling the products. Actually not so nice, since they are selling the products in no-reasonable prices and still they beheave that they are giving you such a deal ! They are not ashamed to sell you products in a „sale“, while you are watching same offer with lower price online !!!! Disgusting thieves !

  2. They copy databases of all users and then they sell it as part of "package". The funny thing is that they sell also my own data with my old mistakes, that I repaired in my database already long time ago… The packages of „unlimited“ pictures and profiles on web site is just a fake, the pictures you add they just cut to minimum and many of pictures, if they don't erase them, they reduce to such size that its impossible to use anymore. Basic functions of their software and web site work only sometimes, sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it works in wrong way.

  3. Not only that I lost all of my pictures, they copied and stole at least one of these pictures and presented it on their FB profile in a faked way. My (still living) family from North Moravia they presented as family from Denmark – when I wrote as reaction that its faked and stolen, they NEVER reacted and they never cared!

  4. When I asked, upon prolonging my account, for changing the e-mail address, they informed me that they will provide it for me and that they will contact me regarding this issue. Again lies! They never did! When my old e-mail address was suspended after few months, I had to call from Europe to their US number and solve it with them. I was spending on that unreasonable amounts of money, cause their professional customers service is very nasty, selfish, not listening, not able to understand basic spelling (obviously not knowing even the spelling rules). Because of this scum behaviour I had to call 3 times (!!!) – just to change e-mail address. Are they serious?

  5. I can't report it as my own experience, but many customers in my country experience illegal charging of their cards from site of MyHeritage (there are existing many cases reported on Czech blog sites, with at least 20 people I am in personal contact).

I can't recommend MyHeritage site and services in any means. Their customers service is unprofessional, with very nasty and disgusting behaviour, NEVER able to help. The internal customer service will never solve serious problem if there appears one. They are good just in promising and deferring. It's just SCAM and fraud company very business oriented, but not customer oriented. They just know well to soak the money from bank accounts, but they NEVER HELP! It's just bunch of liars, thieves, scam and fraud! HIGHLY NOT RECOMMENDED!

LEHI, FLORIDA -- Never had heard of or even been on this website and on 12/27/17 received a fraudulent charge of $172.00 by this company. They refuse to help me get it removed and are giving my banks fraud division zero assistance in their investigation. A real scam and slimy outfit from my research and experience getting robbed from this shady ‘genealogy website'...

Their Membership Subscription Renewal Is A Scam

I paid for a one year subscription last year and got a surprise email a week ago informing me that it has successfully been renewed and money taken from my account. I wrote to the support team and got Samuel to call me back offering me a special deal of 20% refund + some obscure goodies that I am sure I will end up paying for in the long run, claiming I chose the automatic renewal option (did I?) and got an email a year ago informing me of this automatic renewal, email I can't find in my mailbox. Beware of this scam and do not buy a premium plan to start with. Terrible, unethical practice.

Company Response 06/04/2017:

Shockingly Dishonest and Completely Despicable

UK -- Like several other online reviewers, I was a day late cancelling the free trial and immediately sent a polite refund request to support team via the contact form on their website. I received a phone call the next day from an employee called Samuel, who continued to try to sell me the product and refused me a refund on the grounds that "The terms and conditions were in the e-mail you were sent." He eventually offered a 20% refund, spouting the same lie he appears to have told other users here that this was a "special deal".

As another user has pointed out, this is not true, as the terms and conditions that users agree to upon sign-up include their refund policy in which they offer a money back guarantee for any unsatisfied customers who request cancellation within 30 days of joining. I am within 30 days of joining, am definitely unsatisfied, and have now made three very clear requests for my money back. All have been ignored so far, but I do not intend to stop until I get my money back!

Don't Trust Them With Your Credit Card

LEHI, UTAH -- The company response to the first review on this site is old, but you should know it is, at least presently, untrue about one thing. It says, "MyHeritage has a complete refund policy, so that any paying customer who reports a complaint or dissatisfaction receives their money back regardless of how old the purchase is and how much of it was already used." Hardly.

I used their site briefly, paid for membership, found out that to get any of the actual data they boast about you have to pay more money. I tried it out, then cancelled my membership, but, no, they wouldn't refund any money. Now they claim I only cancelled the website membership, but not the data account, so a year later they charged my credit card without warning, $119 for an auto renewal. When I complained they say their policy is never to give refunds, even for a renewal I didn't want or authorize. He eventually offered to give me back 45% of my money, so that's $77 they charge to cancel an unused service.

Thieves, Their Money Back Guarantee Is a Scam!

ISRAEL -- I've been trying to get a refund for 2 weeks already and have only been given the runaround by their support. I e-mailed them as well as opened a ticket on their site and after 2 long weeks of waiting here's the only thing I got from them...

After this exchange I have not received any contact from them as was promised. I have replied to that e-mail reasserting that I simply wish my refund as promised on their site but they haven't even bothered to answer this time. This is a flat out dishonest attitude, they were quick to charge me $120 but it seems it will take months to process my refund! They seem to want to tire the customer into giving up. Stay away from these thieves and save yourself from the headache of dealing with unresponsive and dishonest company.

Here's their money back policy as stated on their site: "MyHeritage values the satisfaction of its customers and offers a 30-day money back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with your purchased plan you may request a full refund by contacting Customer Support within 30 days of the initial purchase date of the subscription. The money back guarantee applies to Premium and PremiumPlus family site subscriptions and Data subscriptions, but not to shipped products such as family tree posters."

All refunds will be reimbursed to the original credit card with which the purchase was made. Please allow a reasonable time for the refund to reach you or be charged back to your account." But don't be fooled, as they do not intend to honor it!

Unable to Either Access Trial Subscription or Cancel It.

This is a SCAM!!! I signed up for a free trial last week - but I am unable to access my account. The username and password that I created aren't working. I emailed them and they sent me a temporary password - still not working - I've done this three times now and the password they send me never works. My last email to them asked them to cancel my free trial effective immediately. Their response? Another temporary password that didn't work.

I posted on their Facebook page and as soon as I hit "post," my comment disappeared. I also emailed them through Facebook with no response. I haven't had any money deducted from my account YET but I know it's going to happen if I can't get hold of them. I have been trying the phone number that someone posted below and I keep getting a voicemail saying that they're at lunch. I'm now off to contact my bank to try to prevent any payments being made to them. Very, very frustrating - please spread the word, do NOT deal with this company!!!

Scam! Scam!

I was searching for a free upload of my raw DNA data and I found DNA Land AND MyHeritage on search engine. I got DNA land that is free upload the analyzed the my raw data from 23andme. It was clean and straightforward, no hidden stuff and subscription. I got my result at Myheritage.com through email saying that my result is ready. I clicked it and their webpage opens up in that bold BOX its says "TO VIEW YOUR RESULT, YOU MUST PAY $29 TO VIEW AN ESTIMATE."

I was confused and I called the MyHeritage and spoke to someone and explained to me that it's only FREE UPLOAD. So the company MyHeritage expect people to upload raw data of their DNA just for NOTHING? DOES NOT MAKE ANY SENSE. It's also specify that the estimate is free. For $29 dollars I did not even get full DNA review was just an estimate that was supposed to be free. Got the estimate and confirmed that I am Asian that IS ALL - one word. I paid $29 to know myself where I already know.

Everything they put there in bold was "Free" and they SEPARATED a tiny little fade gray color that indicates what is not free. How the hell can you see that and why it's separated from the actual "advertising". Totally different from the search engine ADVERTISING... This company, MyHeritage is A PHISHING SCAM DNA TESTING COMPANY. BE CAREFUL.

OHIO -- Anybody who got suckered into spending money at www.myheritageDNA.com based upon their promise to send results within 4 weeks is out of luck. I activated my profile on January 29th, they acknowledged receipt on February 4th and it's now the end of March and.......crickets. No replies to email inquiries, just a blast email saying that they are "upgrading their equipment and it will take another 4 weeks. Which.....is now. And......crickets. This is a total ripoff. Spend your money elsewhere, meanwhile I'm going to spread the word about their unethical business practices. Don't piss people off who have access to the internet......

Beware of "Free Trial"

2975 EXECUTIVE PKWY STE 310, CALIFORNIA -- I found no way to cancel by email (my first red flag) but cancelled by telephone within the two week "free trial" period. Two days later received a $119 charge on my credit card. I then emailed on 3/13/18 about this charge, and received a 'support ticket', but nothing further 11 days later. I again called, and was told that I had signed up for "two accounts" because I had two email addresses (so what?), but this alleged 'second' account shows up nowhere. My account settings show just one account with acct. number under 'free basic account'. Support attempted to put all the blame on me, and the whole thing reeks of a scam.
