Premature Brake Wear - Rear Brakes

I brought my car into the Honda dealership yesterday because of squealing noise I noticed when I was driving. Now this car is not even a year old, has 15,00 miles on it and they told me I needed new rear brake pads. I asked the guy why because I know brake pads should go for at least 30K sometimes 40K miles and mine was nowhere near.

He said that the 2008 Accord was made with thin material for the brake pads so it caused it to wear down faster. He said Honda was aware of the problem and that many other people had had the same issue. I still had to pay for the repair and it's not fair and I feel like Honda should pay for it. They are aware of the problem so they need to do something about it. I am not going to keep paying for brake pads at 15K miles or less! That's ridiculous. Make it a recall or else fix them for free. I should not have to pay for new brake pads when it is a Honda default with the car.

Why would they make them so cheaply to begin with?? Sounds to me like Honda just wants to make some more money and screw people over. I will trade in this car before I pay for another brake job at such a low mileage.

At safercar.gov there are 43 complaints about the rear brakes wearing out too soon. No recalls or technical service bulletins posted on 2008 Accord concerning brakes.

There are a lot of vehicle defects that cost consumers money while the manufacturer declines a recall. The most heinous is the well-known paint adhesion problem affecting virtually all makes and models since 1987. The problem has been ignored so long that no company could afford the price of the recall.

Have the dealer or an independent shop replace the stock brake pads with aftermarket ceramics...they should last a long time.

If your Honda 2008 has brake pads that wear out too quickly begin to take action find out what your rights are in your state. Honda is refusing to correct their error while we the consumer pay the price with our safety.

About 1 year after purchase and 26k miles on the 2008 Honda Accord, I had to have rear brake pads replaced and the rotors turned - cost over $200 from the dealership and was NOT covered by the warranty......

This was my first Honda purchase and will be my last.

I saw on other websites that possibly turning off the VSA (vehicle stability assist) when you don't really need it may help increase the life of those rear brake pads?? Any truth to this???

It is ridiculous and frustrating that the rear brake pads or rear brakes overall have a design flaw - either intentional or unintentional....... Rear brakes in any car should not have to be... more >>

SAME HERE! And, while at the dealership replacing rear ROTORS AND PADS, there was another lady doing the same thing on a 2009 with less than 15K miles!

Honda refuses to acknowledge this safety and premature wear issues. I suggest we all file complaints with the DOT.
