Evercom Complaint - Evercom is a scam! - Inmate calling

Inmate calling - Complaint
Review by shellyv on 2009-06-16
Ok, I've heard many bad complaints regarding this company but I turned a blind eye and had to deal with the consequences myself. I recently opened up an Evercom account and was given the following information: You can receive four 15 minute phone call from an inmate for $25. Well, after agreeing to this, an employee transferred me over to prompt me on purchasing this over the phone. First off, there is no $25 option, the minimum is $50 plus a $6.95 credit card fee. Unfortunately, I fell for this and after receiving only two 15 minute calls from my friend, I was sent a message from Evercom saying that I needed to add more money to my account. I then called the company and they said I had only $9 left on my account. In other words, it cost me $48 for two 15 minute calls. When I tried to dispute what they had offered me, they said their was nothing I could do. So, to anyone out there even thinking of purchasing this prepaid card, beware!! It is a scam! It is 3 times cheaper for them to call collect to your home phone! This company should be shut down! And yes, I intend on filing many complaints so this doesn't happen to others.

We appreciate you using this company and helping to pay for the inmate upkeep thru the "commission" the prison gets from companies like this.
