Resolution Update on 07/29/2009:
i feel that this review will never be addressed or resolved because the solution is not in the best interest of the manufacturer. on my own i had to change fonts which are not to my liking but it does save my ink. so consumers please remember to do this yourself.factory default settings are sometimes not in your best interest when it comes to printers and ink consumption.

I am one of many consumers who have similar complaints. For a time I thought it was all my own fault. These ink cartridges run out too quickly. I have gone through 4 sets of both B&W and Color ink in the last year. I can truthfully say that I have printed out no more than 50 pages since my purchase of the Dell All-in-One 948.I was trying to save ink for the really important jobs.

My first set that came with the printer lasted one month! I probably printed out 20 pages, a few of them color. I checked the settings..that was not the problem.
The ink is very expensive and we all know that you can only buy it from Dell or (now) Staples.
The printer also copies and scans which is very good. no issues there. But the ink's rate of consumption just makes this product unworthy of the Dell name. I do regret my purchase and I feel I am being punished for my loyalty to Dell. i regret to say I will probably buy another printer that will not be a Dell.

This is just another reason why they call it DELL Hell.

So use refill/recycled ones. I do and never had a problem. I get mine at databazaar.com CHEAP.

Walgreens refills cartridges at a low price as do other retail outlets. There also are other places besides Staples that sell generic cartridges. I don't quite get this complaint. The set supplied with a new printer does not have the capacity as replacement sets. Yet, you got 20 copies from the first one and only 10 from each subsequent set? Do we have a bit of embelishment here? I agree the name brand is more expensive, but...

In order to get the most use out of this ink i have found i needed to set the fonts at the most basic levels.ARIAL,no bold either. i am now getting a better count. i did try to refill them but i was unsucessful.my initial page counts were accurate, not embellished. ink use does vary according to font sizes and colors used, as you all know.but i realized that the defaults on the printer are set up to run it AUTOMATIC and that uses up the most ink.i am now set at NORMAL. much better.but if i had it to do all over again...i wouldn't buy the Dell printer.end of story.
