Hyatt Hotels Complaint - Staff firing - houskeeping

houskeeping - Complaint
Review by rgh on 2009-09-25
BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS -- I was shocked at the firing of the housekeepers at the boston hotels - surely the company could have found someplace else to cut costs rather than firing struggling workers who depend on their low salary and benefits - some of these folks have been loyal employees with years of service - this company should be ashamed - I will avoid Hyatt in the future -

OP please tell me instead of the housekeepers which "struggling workers who depend on their low salary and benefits" would you suggest they let go instead

Do you actually know the story of why they were firing people? Or is this an assumption?

Actually, layoffs are a fact of life for all of us, but what made this really suck was that Hyatt brought in the new employees, and told the old employees they were for vacation coverage and had the old employees train them. Then one day after they were trained, at 5 o'clock the housekeepers were pink-slipped.

BKK, the new housekeepers are part of an out-sourcing deal, and they get $8/hour, where many of the old housekeepers earned $15/hour.

Ah, ty for the answer, Ken.

Ken, where did that come from? If true, I think they would be leaving themselves open for a lawsuit with a good attorney.

Ken ok after your post I looked this up. Not exactly the right thing to do here. If you wanted to save 7.00 per hour on each person I guess this is the thing to do? The bad part is in 2 weeks no one will remember this ever happened

OP, it isn't just the Hyatt. Look what happened to all GM workers.

Layoff's are happening all over the country.

This morning the Boston Cab Driver's Union announced that if Hyatt did not hire the wrokers back, they would no longer service any area Hyatt hotels. I don't believe it for a minute, but it sure would be interesting if they followed through, and you couldn't get a cab to take you from the airport to your hotel.

That's just wrong...I bet there will be lawsuits filed.
