I work for NCO Financial. I work in the government division. I have read many of these complaints and I'm glad so far nothing about our government division. However, we are trained everyday on what we can and can't do. We have to take a compliance test every 6 months. In the office I work in We are not rude or harassing.

When we call a wrong number we don't know its a wrong number until you tell us. If its wrong we will flag it and never call it again. I have worked with a few rude collectors and believe me they did not last long. We have a no tolerance policy when it comes to FDCPA Violations FDCPA= Fair Debt Collection Practices Act. We don't make it a practice to harass your neighbors, relatives or employer. However if for some reason we call them its because the number came up in our search. We will ask for the right person if they say wrong # we will ask for an alternate # if they know the person. We do not discuss the debt. If they say they don't know them or stop calling then we will flag it and never call again. I personally treat all my debtors with respect as my co-workers as well. There are days when I wish I could just blow up on the phone and tell the debtors exactly how it is but I can't do that. So we have to listen to the debtor cuss us out scream yell call us names and all we can do is say sorry for bothering you and terminate the call. I wish we could sue debtors for harassment. Just know that when we call its because you owe a debt just pay it or set up payments it doesn't have to be stressful. If you don't like the representative that called you ask to speak with a supevisor and they have to escalate the call. Just keep in mind you owe the debt and we are just doing our job.

Maybe you should read some of the other posts more carefully. A lot of the people on here complain that NCO calls them repeatedly with debts that are not theirs despite telling NCO that the number is wrong.

It took 6 months and a threatening letter from base legal to get you guys to finally stop calling me about someone else's debt. And this was after repeatedly telling them they had the wrong number, that I didn't know who the person they were trying to reach was. I sent 2 cease and desist letters informing of this issue and still got calls at least 3-5 times per day all week long.

Very good Vixen...and thanks! I've been trying to get that message across on here for FIVE years! Sounds like you work for a top notch site. Though there are alot of complaints on here about NCO, I'm always trying to get the message across that it depends on which site has the account. Compliance testing every six months EXCELLENT! I was in charge of training NCO collectors/managers in the FDCPA and State Laws at the site I worked for. People don't realize how often the State laws change and you just have to keep putting updates out there for the collectors. I had to re-create the entire Compliance test for our site to include all the changes... more >>

Not for nuthin... but who cares what site gets the account? If one site is bad, then *all* sites are bad. Until the time comes when the person being called can request that the account be transferred to a 'good' site, then all of NCO is tarred by the same scummy brush.

    DebtorBasher (09/29/2009)
Not true Ken. Why should a site that are following all the laws be pulled down with those who doesn't? It is the responsibility of the individual site leaders to keep their site compliant and some do while others allow their collectors to do or say whatever it takes to get the money. It's just like you can't accuse all McDonald's for being filthy just because a few are. It's up to the manager to make sure they are clean.

    KenPopcorn (09/29/2009)
Because the ALL belong to NCO, and if they cannot control their sites then they are a badly run company. If they have 99 excellent sites and one bad site, and they allow it to continue, they are a bad company. And it's not hard to see that this is because the 'bad' sites are more profitable. They aren't hawking cheeseburgers, they are messing with people's lives.

    Stew (09/29/2009)
Basher, Your analogy isn't applicable to Ken's statement because Ken did caveat his statement by saying until one can choose an NCO office they deal with. If I get bad service at one McDonald's then I'm perfectly free to go to another McDonald's or blow off McDonald's all together. A debtor being targeted by NCO does not have that choice. See the difference?

    DebtorBasher (09/29/2009)
Nah...I can't agree with you on that one Ken. But, I still love ya anyway.

    Stew (09/29/2009)
Holy crap Ken and I agree on something.

    DebtorBasher (09/29/2009)
Yes, they do have a choice Stew...they can sue the company if they are in violation. When they sue, the lawsuit is against that particular site. If someone's account is in an office somewhere in OkieTown and they get sued, the site in GreatOhioCity is not going to be named in the lawsuit. Why? Becuase GreatOhioCity had not violated the law because GreatOhioCity site had the Basher cracking the whip to the collector's and managers.

    DebtorBasher (09/29/2009)
Holy crap Stew is disagreeing with the Basher! Must be his new old age causing him to do crazy things.

I've had bad experiences with NCO as well...I moved to SC and received tons of calls for the past owner of the house. No matter how many times I told them the owner had moved didn't matter...they called me constantly...NCO sucks...they were rude and didn't give 2 cents that they were harrassing the wrong party...I sent them a cease letter which finally kept them from calling...sorry DB.

    Mrs. V (09/29/2009)
As many times as I've had problems with NCO I really do dislike them.

*BUT* just because I've had problems with one person (or 10) at NCO does not mean that all people at NCO are bad.

When ever I get a call from them (and I do about once or twice a year because of a debt my Mom owed that was paid but not documented right) I always start off nice and polite.

You should always start each call polite and calm because it's easier to get loud and nasty then it is to start loud and nasty and get calm and polite ^_^

    DebtorBasher (09/29/2009)
That's exactly what you need to do MsCant...send the C&D letter and as you see, it worked and they stopped calling. It may be frustrating and annoying, but if people took the right steps to resolve the issues, they will be (should be) handled in compliance to the laws.

    squeekie (10/01/2009)
NCO has been calling here. They are not persistant in calling. I have no collections out there nor does my husband. The messages just say this is NCo blah blah blah. We are a collection company... blah blah blah. Please call Ms Roberts at.... gives a number.....
It is a pre- recorded message and they don't sat who they are calling for. we have recieved no collection letters in the mail.
I believe they may be calling looking for info on a neighbor..
