United Airlines Compliment

Another Good Trip

Location: Singapore via Narita/San Francisco to Portland, OR

Earlier this week, I flew home from Singapore on United Airlines. In this day of airline complaints, this makes the second time this year that I have absolutely nothing negative to comment on.

Every single one of my flights were on-time and we even arrived early to my transfer points--one in Narita (Tokyo) and one in San Francisco.

My seats were comfortable enough (Economy Plus), but, to be honest, nothing will ever be comfortable when you're sitting in it for 8 hours at a time, business class included.

I highly recommend the bulkhead seats as they do give you more room for your legs and for things you may want out during your flight. I usually fashion a leg rest out of my carryon which helps considerably. With the seats in the other rows, this is not possible.

The food was acceptable, but, then, I never expect gourmet food, so I am never disappointed. They served two meals on each flight--free I might add.

They offered several movie choices (with your personal screen) on both long flights. This really helps pass the time. There were actually good movies that I hadn't yet seen. That's always a plus.

When I arrived at destination, my luggage was there too! Everything was intact, as usual, and nothing was missing. I actually have never had any problems with my luggage, even though we often hear complaints about people coming up with missing items. I will consider myself fortunate. But, I have also come to believe that these incidences do not happen very often. If they did, I surely would have had it happen by now.

Last, but not least, every single flight attendant on my three flights were all courteous and helpful.

Really, what more could I ask for?

    Good review.

LOL, I have made the poor man's business class seat too. My rollaboard carry on is perfect for seat 31A on American's 777 planes because the door leaves a lot of empty space.

Ben, as a frequent flyer, you know that sometimes you just have to improvise, lol. I can't believe how much stuff I bring on just to make myself comfortable. Let's see, there's the noise blocking headphones, ear plugs (in case someone is snoring extra loudly or a child is screaming), snacks, water, a blow-up pillow, travel blanket, chapstick, lotion, toothbrush, toothpaste--my God, I didn't even realize how much stuff I take. Oh, and there is the books, magazines, laptop, first aid kit, slipper socks, pajama pants. Okay I'll stop here. I didn't realize that my carryon bag is completely full of just the necessities I need on the plane to ... more >>

I learned the hard way to pack at least an extra pair of boxers and a toothbrush any time I fly. I prefer to fly to a city and back home in the same day if possible, but a few years ago I got stuck in LA with just a laptop and a magazine cause weather cancelled all flights back to Dallas.

KIA, in retrospect I've been fortunate as well compared to other complaints here. Once on a long trip my baggage didn't arrive with me but was was delivered to the hotel later that night. The other time I remember was on a return flight. My bags didn't arrive until I think a week later. No problem, I had plently to wear in my closet in the meantime, although I was concerned my bags had been lost forever. I received a call at the office that my bags had been located and they would be dropping them off at work in an hour or so. I simply told them to take the bags to my home, put them in the storage room, close the door and all was well.

Glad to hear that you had not only a safe trip but a satisfying one. Your expectations were reasonable and you were well prepared. More passangers should be as well prepared!

Sounds like you missed out on the real earthquake action... glad you're home from that..

Thanks all for your nice comments :)

of, I heard I missed a nice swaying of our building in Singapore, as I left the day before. I am no fan of earthquakes, especially on the 31st floor. I will be returning in November and I do hope the ground has settled by then!

I feel for all those that lost their homes and lives in Indonesia and Samoa. They have so little to begin with. If anyone can give to Mercy Corps, please do. They use most of their donations for aid, unlike many of the other charitable organizations. They are already on site helping.

nohandle, that's happened to me a couple of times, as well. But, it all turned out... more >>

So, how long have you been working for United Airlines? LOL..Just Kidding!

Good to hear some positive things about an airline these days. I'm sure others have good experiences, but most won't take the time to post a compliment, but will waste no time posting a complaint.

    Have a safe trip back!

Welcome home Kia!! I'm on staycation now! Woohoo!

Thanks, john and db. Actually, db, I did used to work for an airline--before kids--long ago. The airlines were something special then--before dereg. That's when working for an airline was actually fun. The president of the company was innovative and also married to an actress. Those were good times and I'm glad I had that opportunity before I settled down.

KIA, that's when they had pride in the sky.

    knowitall2 (10/03/2009)
True, db. My airline's slogan was, "We really move our tail for you." That would be pretty sexist today, but, hey, it did get people's attention.
