I have been in a Chapter 13 bankruptcy and the trustee's office has been responsible for making timely payments to GMAC Mortgage Company. Over the course of the first three years of the bankruptcy I somehow accumulated $15,000.00 in various fees. I was only 60 days behind in my mortgage when I filed so this amount seemed unreasonable to me.

The court ordered me to pay it and I had to take what little money I had in retirement out of my annuities to make that payment. Now two years later I am still trying to find out what all that money went to. Over the past several months I have made several calls to GMAC's bankruptcy department and receive varying degrees of cooperation. After several requests I did receive a payment history. I finally discovered that GMAC has been regularly posting my payments two to three months after they have been sent out by the trustee's office. Of course not one individual at the mortgage company has any idea how this could be happening! The additional "other" money owed is still a mystery. Twice I have been assured that an "investigation" was being conducted to determine what those charges were for. To date I have no information about these charges. It is evident though that my payments have been posted weeks and months after being sent. Why? There is no good reason!
