Odd calls - calls looking for someone

Never heard of NCO before, but started getting odd phone calls. When we answered heard recording - "Thank you for calling NCO Financial" so we hung up. We had not called. After several of these someone came on the line before I hung up asking for someone with the same last name. When told they had the wrong number she said they would remove our number from "the list." Then she asked if I knew this person.

I would not have told her if I did, since I did not know anything about the company or why they were calling. It seemed shady since they used such ridiculous methods of calling people. Do they really expect to get people when they answer with a recording thanking you for calling? Had to check on what the company was. Also found the name they wanted in the phone book.

The recording you mentioned is a classic technique, which yes, works alot. You were smart. Most arent. Thats why they do it!!!

Don't hang up! Just lay the phone down and go to a movie.

You could also do what I do to telemarketers. When they ask for a person say "Yes so and so is here, I will go out to the garage and get him" Then just set the phone down...forever

A small transistor radio kept near the phone works wonders. Just before you head for the garage you turn the radio up full blast to some horrible music and lay the mouthpiece down on the speaker. Save the trip to the movie. They won't be there when you get back from the garage.

Wrench - you don't have to shoot down every bit of my advice - I just thought there were some great movies out right now...that's all.

I am currently having the same experience with the recorded messages. I have yet to speak to a real person to find out who they are looking for. Tonight when I tried to call back the 800 number that they left on the message, I got a recording that this number had now been changed to a 900 number that you have to be 18 to call. This seems extremely fishy to me! I of course did not call the 900 number. I cannot figure out how to stop these recorded messages that I get now 1-2 times daily. How annoying!
