Sears Fleeced Me - Hot Water Heater Repair

Posted By: FrankieJoni on 11/3/2009

Sears forced me to pay $163, in advance, for the repair of my hot water heater. The repairman never showed up and I was forced to pay a plumber to make the repair, late at night, on a Friday (water was POURING out of the water heater). Sears refuses to refund my money.

Most houses have a water turn-off valve out by the street. Know where that is before problems arise, then you can go out, turn the water off and stop flooding.

There should be a main shut off INSIDE the house. One feeding into the heater as well.
You need a special tool for the ones outside in most cases
Do you live in a shed or what, JR?

I have a shutoff to the pig trough, one to the outhouse and one around back where Elsie gets water. I just find it easier to go out to the road with my t-handle tool and turn the main valve off. This turns all the water off. That really just creates a problem on Saturdays when we all take our bath in the big oak tub. Other than that, we just drink out of the horse trough until the water is back on - little too cold for bathing.

Hopefully you paid Sears with a credit card. File a dispute with them. If you paid them with a check then file a small claims case against Sears. Sue them for the $163.00 plus your court costs.

*laughing* That's nice Wally but you don't want a single woman doing this do we?
I had no clue that you lived in Liberty City!

The outside shut off valve would be the last resort.
You don't have to go outside to shut the water off to the hot water heater.

Why are all of you missing the complaint? It's not about the water, it's about the money for no service.

It is about both my friend. Try thinking things through before putting those fingers on the keys.
Had the OP known where to shut of the water supply they wouldn't have had to pay the premium rate to the plumber and probably not have had such a bad flood.
In these situations you have to be vigilant and proactive otherwise you get taken as the OP did.
