Boycott Travelocity!!!

So Yesterday I bought a ticket for my sister. I paid with my Debit card and I received a confirmation email from them. I printed out her "E" Ticket and I logged off so I could help her pack for her 6:30pm flight.

About an hour later I received a phone call from an unavailable number. I didn't answer it in time so I waited to see if they left a message....

No message was left so I didn't think anything of it.

I dropped my sister off at the airport and sad goodbye. She went inside to go check in. I got a call from my sister who was hysterical saying that Travelocity canceled her ticket!! This was after they had already taken the money out of my account!!! I ran to my computer and I found an email there saying that the ticket was inactive until I called to confirm additional info.

So I called and asked why they canceled the ticket. They said because I didn't answer my phone when they called to make sure it was indeed me who purchased the ticket!

I freaked because they don't indicate it on their site they they have to call to confirm and they never left a message so I could have called back. I had no clue! Not to mention they SENT A CONFIRMATION EMAIL!!! Plus they should have never taken the money out of my account like they did if they were trying to be "Precautious" to make sure it wasn't someone else using my card.

So I had to buy another ticket for double they price of the one I had purchased earlier and I had to leave my sister stranded at Logan Airport! I'm in the process of complaining to them.

This was their screw up not mine and the made a pregnant woman VERY mad!!!! They are gonna be sorry they screwed with me!
BOYCOTT TRAVELOCITY!!!!!!!

This was your fault for not answering your phone. A "CONFIRMATION EMAIL" confirms that a reservation was made. It does not confirm that the credit card went through and the reservation was "TICKETED". Anyone can make a reservation and get a confirmation, but the credit card being used has to be accepted along with the correct billing address. You chose not to answer the call when they tried to confirm your purchase. This was your mistake not Travelocity's.

I highly doubt that Travelocity calls every single customer back on the phone to confirm who they are. Why would they care? They already have the money. If somebody won't identify themselves on caller ID...then they don't need to talk to me and I simply don't answer the phone. To the op, I hope you can get a refund. This is a lesson to not use these travel people to book anything. Go directly to the airline or hotel. You'll have less grief and probably more money in the long run.

The obvious reason is that the name on the reservation was not the same as the one on the credit card. I agree they aren't going to call everyone, but in this case they feel is was warranted.

Sorry, but do you really think your "BOYCOTT TRAVELOCITY!!!!!!!" is going to cause so much as a ripple?

We all would like to think so, but; sorry...it simply ain't gonna happen.

    LadyScot (11/04/2009)
Just, correct. The name on the ticket was not the name on the card used. Therefore the call. YOUR error not Travelocity.

Had your card been stolen and no call made you would be here complaining that they don't check this type of thing.

This is common and could have happened if you had booked with the airline or another travel site. The airline can also require that the credit card used be present at the ticket counter. This is to protect you and the travel company from fraud. They sent you an email and tried to call.

I booked a ticket online with United for a flight 4 weeks in advance. So they have my credit card number, got their money, and I still have to show my credit card when I check-in. It sucks, but that is the way they do things. I don't blame the OP for not answering his phone or even checking his email - why would Travelocity block their number?

    MzDLBrand (11/04/2009)
Just, how it is the OP's fault because they didn't make it to the phone in time. Everyone doesn't sit on top of their phone waiting for it to ring. He didn't say he just chose not to answer it because it was an unknown number.

Also, if it was that kind of situation, I believe Travelocity should have left a message asking the passenger to call back. They did not have to state the nature of the call, but it would help if the purchaser would have known that Travelocity needed to talk to them. That, or Travelocity should have their number unblocked so a person would know that it was them calling and call back. I would not have answered my phon... more >>

for this one i have to agree with the OP

i can't always get to my phone in time either
they should have left a message

    Ben There (11/04/2009)
I think the lesson learned from this - if you purchase a flight that is leaving in a couple hours answer your telephone. I am sure Travelocity would rather make the occassional customer mad than suffer thousands of dollars worth of fraud for someone who steals a credit card in the morning for a flight tonight. There is a reason they ask specifically for the phone number associate with the credit card and put that they might try to contact you in the rules.

Even if they had left a message there were only a few hours before the flight at which point it would be too late for a call back.

    MzDLBrand (11/04/2009)
    Ben, I disagree...

The OP said he waited at his phone to see if a message was left since he didn't get to the phone in time and it wasn't. Had they left a message it would have been checked immediately and he would have had an opportunity to call them back.
