Florida Power & Light Company Complaint - FP&L Takes Advantage Of Its Customers Being Its the Only Electric Co. In Florida - Power, Electricity, Gas

Power, Electricity, Gas - Complaint
Review by jennahatesfpl on 2010-02-08
When I set up my account with FP&L just before my closing, I was ill-aware of the fact that the Rep set up my bill to be sent to my email. Being that I wasn't receiving paper bills, and wasn't notified about when my bill was due, FP &L shut off my power without my knowledge. When I asked several times why I wasn't receiving bills and attributed my late payments to that fact, the person I spoke to never told me my account was set to be billed to my email. I do not use email billing as I like paper statements to ensure my bills are always paid on time. The last time this happened they finally told me (7 mos later) that my bills were being sent to my email, and when I asked why my previous bill was so high, they said "Oh well because of your late payment history, we charged you a $445 deposit." After explaining that for 7 months I've been asking why I'm not receiving the bill & the 1st Rep set the account up wrong, they proceeded to tell me they couldn't do anything about it, and I had to wait 23 months to get my "deposit" back. So because of their mistake, $445 was taken from me against my will in order to keep my power, and they refused to look at my credit report to see that it is indeed flawless as proof. FP&L constantly does this to people because they can and their customer service is absolutely HORRIBLE. I've never felt so ripped off and disrespected. Please report them so they will do something about their uncaring service. I am sick and tired of good honest people being taken advantage of.

So you thought you were getting free power for 7 months? Why didn't you call to see what your balance was, and maybe mention you weren't getting billed? You HAD to have known you owed money to the power company.

You didn't check your email at all during those 7 months??? Even if you didn't get a bill the payments are still due. You could have/should have called each month and paid on time. You can not blame the power company for this, sorry.

The first month it was their mistake. The subsequent six months were totally YOUR mistake.

Agree with the others. How could you not know something was wrong when you did not receive a bill? Did they also not call about the late payments? You did not look at your e-mail for 7 months? This one is not on the company.

lily - dont know who you are but best answer! welcome to the boards if you're new :)

seriously this is not the company's fault if the letter-writer assumes they must not owe anything after 7 months of usage.

sounds more like he or she was hoping to take advantage of the lack of the notifications in order to steal service
