Bank of The West Complaint - Horrible Service

Complaint
Review by ariafirefly on 2010-03-07
GLENDALE, CALIFORNIA -- I usually don't take the time to write reviews but I felt it is my duty to inform those of you out there not to use the Glendale, CA branch of Bank of the West. I was a customer of WAMU (now CHASE) and Bank of America and I decided to open an account at Bank of The West due to their $100 offer if I opened an account. Well, let's just say that the $100 is not worth it! Every time I have stepped into this branch I have been given misleading information or poor service. For example, at the Ventura Branch, when I deposited a paycheck, it would go through right away. However, for some reason, when I deposited paychecks at Glendale, they would print out a form and inform me it would take days to verify the funds even though it's the same paycheck and amount deposited every two weeks. I never had this problem with BofA or CHASE. When I deposited cash, I was told it would go through right away...apparently "right away" means several days. I learned this the hard way when my debit card was declined. It's CASH...what is there to verify? The latest incident was when I questioned a $10 charge on my account and the teller did not know what it was for. He even went to the supervisor and she did not bother to look into it but told the teller to get my number and they would call me when they found out. That was two weeks ago and still no call! Obviously, I didn't wait to here from them and called the call center and they told me in a matter of seconds what it was for. I don't know what kind of business they're running here, but they have lost me as a customer. I am taking my business elsewhere.

It's cash, it's immediate. But, sounds like you made a deposit on Friday after cutover. While cash is immediate (you can spend it, take it out of the ATM) but it won't post into your account until Monday at midnight.
Now, if they're "holding" the cash, without giving it immediate credit, there's something wrong with that bank. You need to close your accounts and go elsewhere.

And as for one branch allowing you access to check funds immediately, and another putting the hold, the main branch probably knows you. The other may not.

Then again, like BK said, it depends on when the deposit is made.

They shouldn't be holding your cash. Cash has no name on it. It depends on the cutoff time and their funds availability. If you made it before their cut-off time, everything should be fine.
