Menards Complaint - Where do I stand.........The new conters at Menards

Complaint
Review by Tesla3400 on 2010-05-13
Congratulations!!!! To whoever designed the new checkout counters at your stores. What a great idea!! If your goal was to alienate customers you've succeeded. Having the check out person stand with their back to you. However it should make it easier for a criminal to put a knife gun or whatever else to the throat of a checkout person. And rob the register. Because chances are they'll never see it coming. It should save a lot of time if a cop is on scene. This will help secure a hostage in the fewest amount of criminal moves. But, that's speculation.....for now anyway. This is clearly the vision of overpaid corporate personal who think they have a better way. Even though they themselves, do not work in a store or behind.....I mean in front of....on the same side as......The wrong side of the counter. But, what do I know. I don't care for it. No one I've talked to likes it. The employee's don't feel safe. But...At least it's completely ignorant. Nice to see you pulled out all the stops and didn't hold back.
Thank you
Sincerely
Paul Suchovsky

Interesting. I can sort of envision what you mean but I don't know if it's correct. I wonder why they changed it.

Are you a marketing design manager or someone looking to assault a Menard's cashier? Otherwise you're just giving a personal opinion on something you don't like.

I have to say, that does sound strange. I wonder what Menards thought the advantage was to the cashiers having their backs to the customers. Why would that work better than the regular way? I'd love to hear their explanation.

I am not a marketing expert. Nor am I looking to assault a Menard's cashiers. And it's not just a personal opinion about something I don't like. A cashier voiced her feelings of how unsafe she feels. Because to much of the time the person she is waiting on is just plain not in view. That when she opens her cash drawer, her back is turned to the customer. I also said no one that I have talked to liked it. So I am voicing the opinion of many. And not just my own dislike for this system. As for being a marketing expert. Stop by a kids lemonade stand this summer. And I'll bet the kid is behind his counter (Or card table or what ever) The cash box will be on his side of the table. And I doubt the kid is a marketing expert. But, if you like the system or see a benefit to it. By all means, I would like to hear it. Because as of yet I do not see the practicality of it at all.

Tesla.. all consumers are marketing experts, when you think about it. They are the only ones who truly know what will work and what doesn't stand a chance.

Venice and Tesla is right. If it doesn't work for the customer we stop going to that business. Personally as a customer I dont know why it is but I feel uncomfortable when a cashier turns their back to me.

I Still don't understand the reason for the change. Or what the advantage if any was. I really would like to hear from someone that knows what the answer is. Can anyone tell me if it is a nationwide change. My local store is in Marinette Wisconsin. Thanks for all the response's so far. Everyone has had some real in site. It's great to hear everyone's opinions. Different points of view is how resolutions are reached afterall.

I moved on to another job just before they put these new registers in. A few weeks later I stopped in and got the chance to ask the cashiers how they liked them. Every female cashier said they had been sexually brushed by numerous times by men customers.
