Chipotle Complaint - They Lied - not making good on a promise

not making good on a promise - Complaint
Review by clutzycook on 2010-09-11
Resolution Update on 09/14/2010:
Although I never received a word from Chipotle corporate, I did receive the promised gift cards in the mail this afternoon. No apology for taking so long, but I'm sure that my complaint on Saturday had something to do with me getting what was promised to me 8 days after I spoke with the manager and over 3 weeks after I was contacted by corporate.
ALGONQUIN, ILLINOIS -- So, three weeks ago I posted a compliment for the restaurant about a negative experience and their positive response. Here it is three weeks later and I'm still waiting for them to come through with their promised gift cards. I waited two weeks before responding to corporate about the lack of cards. The following day (this past Monday), the manager of the store in question called me and was falling all over himself in apologizes about the poor service and he promised to send me the aforementioned gift cards. I gave him my address and waited patently to no avail. Even with the holiday, the absolute latest the cards should have arrived in my mailbox was yesterday or today. While I am not specifically angling to get free food, the service was poor and they have promised to make good. I'm just trying to get them to hold up their end of the bargain.

I emailed them immediately after I posted this and told them that I have posted a negative review about them here.

You complemented a negative experience? If your not specifically angling to get free food, does that mean you are unspecifically angling to get free food?

werelucky, I complimented how the company handled the complaint about the negative experience. And while I will appreciate getting some free food, my main reason for pushing this issue is that if a company promised to make good on an issue, they should do so and not just pay lip service to the customer. They said they would do something, and I am doing my best to ensure that they do so.

The only thing worse than not getting a response from a company is when the company doesn't follow through on its promise. It makes the customer feel tricked and deceived.

I don't see anything wrong with complimenting a company on how it handled a complaint, and then complaining that the company didn't follow through. If clutzy was offered the gift cards before writing the compliment, then why would the compliment be considered angling for free food? And why wouldn't she now complain that the manager didn't make good on his promise?

clutzy, is the restaurant far away? Couldnt you just go pick them up?

The restaurant is in the same town that I live in but I would rather that they not get a look at me in case they decide to add a few ingredients to my burrito if you catch my drift.

Good grief. I hate it when businesses do this. I had a similar issue with Olive garden years ago.

I didnt ask for a gift card; it was offered then never arrived. Needles to say, after following up twice I gave up and just dont eat there any longer.

I agree, raven. I think it would have almost been better if Chipotle hadn't ever responded to my complaint in the first place. Then I would know for a fact that they don't give a flying fart.
