Kmart Informative - Kmart Customers

Review by iheartu on 2010-09-30
As a Kmart employee, I must say that Kmart is a family, and whether you think so or not, they do care about their customers. It is very difficult trying to please everyone, as I'm sure all of you know. There are rules and regulations as to how things are done, just like any other job. If you do not get your way, please do not verbally, or physically attack the employees! If you have a problem with something, please call the 1-800 number. If your merchandise doesn't ring up on sale, it's because corporate didn't put it in the computer, not because we are trying to overcharge you!! If you notice that something rang up wrong, tell us BEFORE you pay, and we can help you avoid making the trip to the service desk. If you ask the service desk person to go get your medication from the pharmacy, know that only you or an immediate family member can pick up your prescription, not even your spouse can pick it up, let alone a Kmart employee! Also, they are not allowed to leave the desk, because there are registers filled with money back there! I'm not trying to be ugly, but it gets frusterating when customers don't understand that there are certain rules we must follow in order to keep our jobs. No matter if we agree with the rules or not. Just like your jobs. Think about the grumpy customers you have to deal with before you treat someone else trying to do their job like poop!!

I like Kmart and Sears because they have good sales and they have rewards program where you get something back.

I think this holds true in nearly every store or business. Customers are extremely demanding, and think that the employee can bend to their every whim and desire. While it is of the utmost importance to satisfy the customer, the customer must also realize that there are certain situations an employee cannot help them with. As "iheartu" implies, employees do not make the rules and regulations. They are simply hired to enforce them. A good example is when a customer becomes irate over the price of a combo meal, and begins to throw a fit in the direction of the cashier. Do they really think that the cashier sets the price, or has the ability to alter the price on their behalf. I often wonder how foolish us customers would feel if they recorded our actions and then played them back for us to watch?

I never take my frustrations out on the employees for the reasons set forth in this review. Thanks for posting it. I hope it gets through to some people.

Some great advise here.

I think everyone needs to work in a big chain retail store for at least the Christmas season. It would change EVERY rude customers attitude.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-09-30:
I agree, Yt. Although I've never done it myself, I've heard enough stories from family members to understand how bad customers can be.
Posted by Ytropious on 2010-09-30:
The rest of the year is nothing compared to season. It's like a star vs a supernova. Crowds, fad items that we never have in stock, shop lifters, scammers, phones ringing off the hook, long hours, always having to explain that you have no idea when X item will be in stock, hearing people say you ruined their Christmas because they failed to shop earlier in the year, etc. Omg, I think I'm having a panic attack just thinking about it, it's just around the corner! lol

Thanks goodness it only lasts six weeks or so. But then you have to deal with the returns! I don't envy you.
Posted by Ytropious on 2010-09-30:
True that, but I've made a point to NOT learn to do returns where I work. There for I don't actually have to deal with the huge return lines. I do have to come over and test and inspect certain things though. It never gets old telling someone "works just fine for me!"

I love my local K-Mart, and wrote my very first review about them.

Skye, I assume you have their rewards card? What I like about this rewards card is that you can use the card in both Kmart and Sears.

Yt.. haha!

I used to love Kmart. We had a very old, very small one here, but it closed back when they closed a lot of their stores. I think they closed mine because the building needed a lot of renovations. The other ones in the area are a little too far to make a special trip. I still miss shopping at Kmart. I bought a lot of stuff in that store over the years.

I don't take my frustration out on employees at Kmart or elsewhere. That being said, I hate shopping there in the last few years. Almost every store I have been in is dirty, poorly stocked and finding someone to assist you in a department is as bad as going to the DMV. While I have encountered friendly employees, most often, the only ones I can find are the two employees working in the 13 cashier lanes with most not even being open. I normally won't bother the cashiers as there is always a line and I know they are already overrworked.

In my opinion, Kmart has fallen far below the shopping experience they used to provide.

Nothing ugly about it. The only ugly thing is when people refuse to understand that there are some things you cannot do - either because of store rules or because of the law.

it's amazing how many times customers think they are entitled to laws being ignored just because... they don't like the laws.

and with scripts... it's no joke. there are very precise laws pertaining to them. the one about the spouse i'm not sure of but that may be something local to your state or to the store/chain itself. (cos i know mom always picks up the scripts but... never from kmart)

but yes very very very helpful review.

The only issue I have between Kmart and Sears is the pricing structure for the exact same item. Example: Back in the spring I saw a patio set that I really liked for $500.00 at Sears. In the same shopping center Kmart had it for $350.00. Does Sears feel that they attract a more upscale clientele so they can gouge the customer more? Consequently do Kmart shoppers expect more value so they keep the prices lower? I don't have the answer but you better believe that I seriously price shop between these two stores.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-10-08:
Wow, that's a big price difference. I'm not sure why either, ok. I guess Sears feels they can get away with charging more, so they do. More people are looking for bargains at Kmart and wouldn't be willing to spend that much there. I don't think Sears and Kmart should sell the exact same merchandise with that much difference in price
