GMAC Complaint - Lease agreements - 2006 trailblazer

2006 trailblazer - Complaint
Review by jojos on 2010-10-23
I purchased a 2006 Trailblazer (under the pretense that it was a smart buy but that is another whole story) but when I went to purchase it in 2010 I was told that it was a smart lease not a smart buy and that GMAC did not repurchase their own vehicles. At that point the mileage was way over the allotment for a lease so I decided to trade it in. I purchased a 2010 Honda Ridgeline for which I traded the trailblazer in on. The dealer gave me the buyout price of the lease so that it was free and clear. Since then and after the title was released GMAC has numerous times harassed me for the over mileage on the lease. I do not feel that I should be responsible for the mileage or I would have just given the vehicle back and paid the mileage. How can they charge me mileage when the vehicle was sold and paid off at the same time... they have put a potentially negative on my credit report and harass me 5 times daily about this matter every time I actually talk to someone on the phone they have no answers for me and hang up Honda has also called them numerous times and explained the situation I worked for years to get my credit up and now this UNFAIR

It sounds like the dealer was dishonest. As for the lease agreement, this is one of the reasons a lease agreement is one of the worst deals around for a car. You can bet that if they can't hammer you on being over the mileage, they will find every minute scratch and ding on the vehicle to hit you with damage. Sorry you had this experience, I would never do business with that dealer again.

OP did you SEE the title and was it titled to you or the dealer?

I see where my initial questions were relegated to "Other Comments". Why not just answer the questions?

And btw...I'm loving my 2010 Ridgeline!

I agree with you, leet. I might have another 3 years to go to pay on my Sable, but when that's all said and done, it'll be MINE and no one but me will give two hoots about the scratches on my front bumper :).

I'm still very confused about the specifics but I think leet60 could very well be right. The dealer, or someone at the dealership, may have represented the lease agreement on the Trailblazer to be something other than what is really was.

I'm not clear on whether the OP purchased the Ridgeline at the same dealership or a different one but it also seems like there might be misunderstandings in how that transaction was written up, as well.

At any rate, I'm not at all convinced that this is a complaint that should be made against GMAC. There were holding a lease on a vehicle and expect the lessee to make good on his or her commitments, as anybody would.

We've all seen where salespeople and finance people at car dealerships characterize the specifics of a lease or financing arrangement in really favorable terms, in an attempt to close a deal. I think that might be what happened here.
