Dancing With The Stars Complaint - The Voting Is Fixed

Complaint
Review by browniegirl on 2010-11-10
I have watched Dancing With The Stars since the first show. When I go to vote I never get all the votes that I am supposed to get. If I am supposed to get 5, I get 4, there is something wrong with the counting. Also I cannot believe the unwed mom from Alaska can still be on the show. She is one of the worst dancers that I have ever seen. I will not be watching the show from now on, for one thing keep the politians off the show. You have lost a good viewer.

Also I have talked to others that has watched the show and they are on longer watching it either.

People are free to vote for whoever they want. If people want to keep the "unwed mom from Alaska" on the show, they can vote for her.

what do you mean you don't get all the votes you are supposed to?
do you not think all of your votes are counted? if that is the case, do you have any proof?

It's not always about pure talent, but sometimes more about appeal. If the audience and/or America really love a particular contestant then they vote for them. I.E.-Prince Poppycock from America's Got Talent, or the kid flying the kite? How much talent does it take to fly a kite. Show me once or twice and I could fly it as well. But it was MORE than that. The kid touched the hearts of the voting public, and thus advanced much further than he should have. Apparently as the case with the "unwed mom from Alaska".

I only tuned in a few times this season, but it was enough to know that Bristol Palin cannot dance. I can't believe she made it to the semi-finals, but I don't think the voting is fixed. Are you saying that you are only able to vote four times instead of five? What happens on the fifth try?

Bud, I agree about the kite flyer but not about Prince Poppycock. Sharon was right when she said he is the male Lada Gaga. He has an enormous talent, and I doubt that we've seen the last of him.

Whenever anyone says "the voting is fixed" when it comes to a reality competition show, that only means that their favorite went home. I don't see why they would fix the votes to keep Bristol Palin on and send home someone else instead. I just don't see the motive. But, regardless, she's not the worst dancer ever. She's not great, but she's not bad. I don't know what her marital or maternal status has to do with anything. If you're upset about babies born out of wedlock, you should know the co-host is an unwed mother. How horrifying!!!

I watch it and I've been watching it less and less lately (didn't see it at all this week) but it's not because I think it's fixed. The performance show is always too long (I don't have two hours every week to devote to this show.)

good point bud. i mean look at William Hung.
yet still he actually had votes and even an album.

sometimes people vote, not for talent, but to see something they find funny.

though ... i'm curious. why do people get 5 votes? what's wrong with just one? unless it's to allow people to stuff the voting box and make it look like more people are watching?
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-11-10:
I don't believe William Hung got any votes because he didn't make it to the live show. He did manage to make somewhat of a career out of his AI exposure though.
Posted by momsey on 2010-11-10:
Pepper, on Dancing with the Stars, you get as many votes per week as there are dancers left. So if there are five dancers left, you have five votes. Next week, when there are four dancers, you'll get four votes.

Oh, I didn't know that, momsey. I'm wasn't sure how the voting worked on DWTS. I just knew there was a limit, as opposed to American Idol where the voting is unlimited.
Posted by momsey on 2010-11-10:
I actually think it makes it more fair for there to be a limit on voting. That way, teeny boppers with nothing better to do can't sit there on speed dial and speed texting their votes for two hours.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-11-10:
I agree, momsey. That's exactly what happens on AI. I'd like to know the percentage of votes cast by teenage girls. I'll bet it's quite high.

Are you upset that Bristol is an unwed mother or that she's from Alaska? Worst dancer you've ever seen? Being a watcher from season 1, you're saying that she's worse than Woz, Steve-O, Kate Gosselin, and Adam Corolla?

How about this one: Jennifer Gray is married now, but she had her kid 5 months after getting married. Do the math. I guess we should stop voting for her now, too?
Posted by justcuz on 2010-11-10:
Bristol is not a politician, but Mama Grizzly is...is that what you're referring to when you say keep the politicians off the show?

I don't watch the show so I don't know who can or cannot dance, but if you're concerned that the voting is rigged, have you tried contacting the network that hosts it?

I find it hard to believe that people care this much about a show where so called celebrities dance.

Full contact dancing might have a chance in my house...
Posted by oldisgood on 2010-11-10:
I think Bristol has done great. She had absolutely NO dancing experience and is basically shy. She has done remarkably well. No, she isn't the best dancer, but YES, she has the hearts of a lot of people.
Posted by momsey on 2010-11-10:
I agree, oldisgood! And it's obvious she has the hearts of a lot of people since she's not getting the best scores from the judges but she's lasting week after week.

I can see the entertainment value in this show, but it isn't something I would watch. A few days ago, there was a professional dancing competition shown on my local PBS station. It was very impressive.

So-called celebrities dancing, on ice, playing water polo, knitting socks, etc just doesn't do it for me.

And that's what makes the world go 'round! Different strokes for different folks.
Posted by Bud_the_Bullet on 2010-11-10:
Now, the world don't move to the beat of just one drum,
What might be right for you, may not be right for some.
A man is born, he's a man of means.
Then along come two, they got nothing but their jeans.
But they got, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Everybody's got a special kind of story
Everybody finds a way to shine,
It don't matter that you got not alot
So what,
They'll have theirs, and you'll have yours, and I'll have mine.
And together we'll be fine....
Because it takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.
Yes it does.
It takes, Diff'rent Strokes to move the world.

I might watch a show that had celebrities knitting socks. That has the potential to be hilarious.
Posted by clutzycook on 2010-11-10:
DWS and AI are on the list of shows I would LOVE to see cancelled. What a waste of Prime Time.

Although I think "Knitting with the Stars" could have some potential :)

I think its a shame that alot of better dancers are getting eliminated and bristol is still on there. I think her mother and her tea party friend are keeping her on there. It's got to the point with me that I don't care if I miss the show or not!!!
Posted by momsey on 2010-11-10:
I'm sure Sarah Palin would appreciate you thinking she has the kind of power that would extend to the ability to keep and get rid of contestants on a reality show, but I don't think that's it! People must like the girl!
Posted by Huck_Hoshimoto on 2010-11-10:
Fixed? WRONG!

That would only apply is Sarah were a Democrat!
You know 98% of every celebrity alive is a Liberal!
[Must be something in the bottled water].
Posted by momsey on 2010-11-10:
Excellent point, Huck. I actually thought Bristol would be eaten alive on that show, but seems like she's doing pretty well.
Posted by Venice09 on 2010-11-10:
I have to agree that Bristol is trying and has come a long way. The only reason she is still there is because people like her. That's not unusual in these competitions. Talent is sometimes secondary. It would be a shame if she won though. That's where a line should be drawn. But if she gets the votes, nothing can be done to change it, as far as I know.
Posted by browniegirl on 2010-11-11:
I have contacted the local station on the voting and they said they would check in on it won't make any difference. I said that she is the worst and there has been several others on there also. But this is suppose to dancing with the stars, she is no star, just like Kat Gosslin was no star, although wh did have a TV show. This show is losing lots of viewers as I have talked to a lot of them.
