Citicards Complaint - They just don't care! - Citi Card Mastercard

Citi Card Mastercard - Complaint
Review by Bixman on 2010-12-04
I have had a Citi Card Mastercard over 10 years. I have always made my payments on time and because my balance is fairly high, they have made a lot of money off of me. Last year when the new credit card rules started going into effect, they would back my credit limit back every couple of months as I would pay the card down. I recently got another credit limit reduction notice and called them. The seemed very indifferent about it so I told them to just close it and I would pay it off as I could. That was three months ago. This week I noticed my internet access to their site to pay was removed. When I called them they told me that my username had been inactivated and the ONLY way it could be reactivated was if I had the original card with the 3 digit security code on the back. When I closed the account, I destroyed the cards. Perfectly normal right? Well since I did that, I don't have the 3 digit security code and therefore they cannot reestablish my internet access. Now I have to call them by phone or mail the payment. WTF? Are they trying to get me in a position to miss a payment so they can jam me with late fees? These people just don't care. Well I don't either. I will NEVER do business with any Citi entity whether it is personal or through my business. Bye Bye Citi! I would hope others don't do business with them either. That's the only way we can make a statement.

They are a credit card company. They exist solely to offer you a service, and make money off of your use of the service. It isn't a church or a hospital, they aren't SUPPOSED to care. Credit limits vary wildly over time. Many people (2008-present) find that their limits have been reduced. Sometimes they seem to have a good reason (credit was not being used for example), sometimes the reason is unclear to us. In your case, you claim to have maintained a high balance and they were reducing your limit as you paid it off. Your card was therefore almost continuously maxed. Using more than about 30% of your available credit puts a major hit on your credit score. THAT'S probably why they were reducing your line. Also, for security reasons, it isn't too unusual to deny access to their site if you are not a Citi customer. You may want to set them up as a vendor in your online banking system to prevent mailing them a paper check or use the phone to call in your payments if they are fee free. Hope you are finished paying and fully rid of them soon.

If you have a bank account with online bill pay, just set it up to pay your bill online that way.

Closing your account on their website, as you indicated you cancelled the card(s) is a fairly standard practice for most banks and credit card companies.

I appreciate everyone's input. Still....it's no wonder the banking industry, at least the BIG BOYS have such a bad reputation. We even helped bail out some of them with MY tax money. I would just as soon let them fail and let the free market take it from there. No one gives a damn about service any more, at least personal service. It will be paid off soon and I will be rid of them but I will make sure that anyone or any business under my control will NEVER do business with a "CITI" owned operation ever again. That's the only tool I have to fight these jerks.

Worse customer service ever and I have been a customer since 1981. Twice I tried to send extra payment to pay down my cash advance at high interest following their instructions and had to call that it was not done and was told I didn't send it to the right place and nothing they can do about it. I cannot wait to cancel this account they certainly made a lot of money of me and never receive offers for anything. Very bad
