Jeld-Wen Complaint - All Wrong & Deadly - Windows and Doors

Windows and Doors - Complaint
Review by frfl on 2011-03-11
I ordered an entire Jeld-Wen package, 88 premium Jeld-Wen products consisting of windows, doors and sliding doors for a new residential construction on the water. My construction plan clearly called for IMPACT products. Long story short, all Jeld-Wen products failed Florida State inspection. Not a single Jeld-Wen product was impact.

My project was red tagged and all construction came to a screeching halt. Months passed, costs compounded. Jeld-Wen and their authorized Dealer, The Molding Depot, refuse to cure their blunder.

Worst of all, they are now knowingly and complacently OK with my family’s and neighbors lives being in life-threatening peril. Instead of responsibly fixing the problem, they made a willful decision to fight me in court. Unbelievable!

Imagine that, Jeld-Wen and their Dealer send me all the wrong products, delay my project, turn my house into a glass bomb, put lives in peril and then both take the shameless position to fight me in court.

BUYER BEWARE! BUYER BEWARE! BUYER BEWARE!

Jeld-Wen and their Dealer have put me, my family and my neighbors in a very dangerous position. We are 1 hurricane away from losing our lives!

Your plans may say IMPACT or not, but I don't see how Jeld-Wen would have ever seen the plans. They are the manufacturer.

Who selected the windows/doors? Were the items that were ordered made as specified, regardless of whether they were what the plans called for? What is the nature of the court action?

You say "long story short," but details would really be helpful. From the complaint, I can't tell if the manufacturer did anything wrong.

JELD-WEN performs all the consumer advertising to purchase their products and directs consumers to their Authorized Dealers:

1. JW has a responsibility to ensure their Authorized Dealers know how to order their products using the JW ordering system. This is their sales channel;

2. JW has a responsibility to label their products clearly. Had the products been labelled as non-impact glass, the Dealer could have rejected delivery from Jeld-Wen, subsequently I could have rejected delivery from the Dealer;

3. Since JW solely uses its Dealers (that could be incompetent), JW has a responsibility to ensure orders (especially large orders) are correct with some simple quality control. Only takes seconds to check a window/door construction plan schedule, only takes seconds to google the job site address, all states that are prone to hurricanes should be checked for impact glass (FL, TX, GA, etc.);

I can go on and on...

Would love to hear the courtroom drama. We were all set to buy the JW sliding glass doors w/built in blinds this week but not now. I have just spent the past hour reading horrible stories of poor: manufacturing, customer srvc., etc. time to start over and find something else. and I think I'll use home depot and lowe's for flowers only. They haven't disappointed there, yet! Thank you, one and all, for saving us from the emotional and financial nightmare you have gone thru.
